BUTTE CREEK CANYON LODGE: SERENE WILD CREEK, SCENIC CANYON, SLEEPS 12, CHICO

Chico Lodge Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful 5000 sq ft, 5 bedroom house and bungalow, 5 bath, creek, canyon view

*We love last minute rentals - just give me a call and we'll see what's possible.

**We now have a cool HORSESHOE PIT in the meadow next to the lodge! Ready to make some spinners or sparks off the peg? There's also plenty of room in the meadow to set up a volleyball net or disc golf cage.

***We now provide DirecTV.

****We provide all linens and towels.

The Lodge and Bungalow sit on 5 acres of beautiful natural canyon land. The house was modeled after lodge style houses in Lake Tahoe with large log posts and river rock walls decorating the fireplaces. It's a very family friendly, beautiful 4 bedroom home plus an attached private 1 bedroom bungalow that can easily accommodate 12 + guests.

While the Lodge is fully equiped for an extended family vacation, the Bungalow is perfect for a single or couples romantic gettaway. The Bungalow has a microwave and small refridgerator, walk in shower and king size bed.

The Lodge is perfect for family reunion or a relaxing place to stay after a wedding, baby or wedding shower or other group gatherings. It has 2 large kitchens, 5 bathrooms with 3 walk-in showers, 2 jetted soaking bathtubs, 2 wood burning stoves, 3 zone full house heating and air conditioning, a game room with ping-pong table, and a large deck with spectacular views of Butte Creek Canyon. Another deck overlooks Butte Creek for hanging out watching for Bald Eagles, osprey, otters, beaver, salmon, wild turkeys, or even the occasional bear. You can climb down a path to a deep swimming area and swim where Chinook salmon congregate during the summer waiting to spawn in October. The house is located an easy to drive 10 miles from Chico. There are plenty of recreational opportunities available including hiking, road and mountain biking, swimming, tubing, snorkeling or just relaxing by the creek. The Centerville Museum and the historic Honey Run Covered Bridge are nearby.

**If you would like to rent my property, please contact me (the owner) directly by phone before you send any money.

Laura and I are retired therapists who worked as school and college counselors and in private practice for over 30 years. We manage and maintain this house for my elderly father in law, Oscar. We have lived in our house nearby on 8 acres for over 20 years. While the vacation rental is completely private, living nearby helps us provide more security for our guests and affords a personal response to requests.

Max George purchased this lodge in 2011

This is a unique and beautiful property on Butte Creek. We love the natural setting of Butte Creek Canyon while being able to drive into Chico in 15 minutes. It's serene and quiet.

It's quiet except for the sound of the creek flowing around the bend.

We were a group of 9 and stayed two nights. We rented the bungalow to have a little extra space and had an amazing time! We're already looking at dates when we can come back and take advantage of the creek!! We wouldn't change a thing!

Thanksgiving Family Reunion

Just returned home from our Thanksgiving weekend at the Lodge and am still getting compliments from relatives for having found such a perfect place for our get-together. We rented both the main house and the extra apartment. What you can't tell from the pictures is that this is a very new home with large rooms, fantastic natural light and a full catering kitchen downstairs in the game room. Bedrooms are large and the 2 living rooms have a lot of seating. We brought a 6 ft folding table with us and created a long table for 18 in the upstairs great room. The setting is not far from town, but has a private and remote feel and beautiful views of the river and hillsides. I enjoyed cooking in the upstairs kitchen and watching everyone make such great use of the indoor and outdoor spaces. Lovely deck by the river drew groups of wine tasters into the sunshine, kids enjoyed the Frisbee-golf target in the backyard and we had movie nights downstairs on the comfy huge "L" shaped couch and ping pong fun. Our group ranged in age from 2 to 84. With 3 large bedrooms on the main floor, older family members had no need to climb any stairs and the walk-in shower in the master bdrm was perfect. Our family group with 3 kids under 9 used the downstairs bedroom (we added a portable crib) and slept well in the quiet that it afforded. (There is a large carpeted staircase to the downstairs that might be a hazard for a toddler) We had excellent phone service with AT&T and never missed having television. Actually even the most ardent football fan pointed out that he enjoyed the extra time to interact with all family members during the weekend because he wasn't glued to game after game...though a group went out to the Suburban to listen to the Alabama game on Sirius channel when phone updates told us that there was a close score at the end. Kitchen is stocked with enough silverware and dishes for a group and the BBQ is wonderful. If you have special needs for large group cooking, bring along large stockpot, casserole dishes and serving bowls. Everything else is already there for you and Max is happy to help with requests. We have great memories and amazing photos from the weekend and hope to return again next year.

Amazing place to stay

I stayed here in the days leading up to getting married at Centerville Estates. I had 9 bridesmaids and 2 girlfriends who stayed with me and the place was so big there were times I couldn't find a few of them! It literally couldn't have been any better for what we needed. It has a HUGE open kitchen with a table large enough to sit 11-12 people (I did a bridesmaids' luncheon there, perfect) and an island that was great for big family style meals and for my sister to do all of my wedding flowers at (she stored the flowers in the huge garage which stayed nice and cool). Also, the dining room has accordion doors that open out onto a gorgeous patio that was perfect for getting all of our wedding makeup done on. The main room upstairs is GORGEOUS with huge vaulted ceilings, a built in speaker system that was perfect for dance parties with the girls while we did small wedding projects, a HUGE bay window that my photographer got the most gorgeous pictures of my dress hanging in and a fireplace that was amazing for cozying up to. There is a small deck overlooking the creek that was wonderful when I needed some quiet time to myself to write a letter to my soon-to-be husband and to just collect myself. My sister and I stayed in the master bedroom and the bed was huge and super comfortable and the closet was huge - big enough to store all of our clothes and my wedding dress still had room to fluff out to make sure it didn't get wrinkled. The steam shower was also amazing for calming my nerves and relaxing in. I honestly just can't say enough good things about this home. Max was a joy to work with and each correspondence and transaction was smooth and easy. This house was an integral part of how smoothly my wedding weekend ran. It was such a joy to be able to have all of my girls around me but not feel like we were on top of each other! We had a wonderful time here and all of our pictures are so beautiful. I'm so glad we stayed here!

The Gathering

The lodge and site location are absolutely stunning. We found the lodge immaculate and well supplied for comfort and dining/cooking. It was interesting to not be able to access television, internet, or cell phone since most of our devices were not at&t, the only area provider; but by the end of our stay, none of us noticed the lack of technology as we so enjoyed the time together exploring the property. The fall foliage and crisp autumn air were incredible.
The owners, Max & Laura George were so very accommodating as we had several requests prior to our arrival just to make sure all our guests would be comfortable.
The covered bridge, the Ridge golf course, and the Butte Canyon Watershed were wonderful nearby attractions that we took time to explore. We did not have sufficient time to enjoy the bbq, sauna, jacuzzi, biking and/or trail exploring although we were quite tempted.
On our initial evening, 7-9 deer greeted us, but they did not return although it may have been due to the bear sighting!

Family wedding in Chico

AWESOME! That's the word that comes to mind when thinking of our stay at the Lodge recently. When our son and his fiancee decided to marry in Chico after graduation we started looking for a place that could accommodate all our family. With all its large open spaces the Lodge provided a warm and inviting place to relax and reconnect. With a glass of wine in hand, we relaxed on the deck that overlooks the creek behind the lodge as the kids enjoyed their game of horse shoes. The Lodge is 15 min. from downtown Chico and for those who need to stay connected, no worries; cell tower nearby. I'll say it again, it was an AWESOME place to share time with friends & family. A shout out to Christian Michaels restaurant & the Chico Event Ctr for making the weekend for all a resounding success!

This property is located in Butte Creek Canyon in the foothills of the Cascades 10 miles from Chico. There is a year round large creek that runs through it. Butte Creek supports the largest run of wild, naturally spawned Spring Run Chinook Salmon in California,' according to the Friends of Butte Creek. In September, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival is held in the Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room. October is the time to see the Salmon spawn in Butte Creek. Catch and release fishing in allowed only from February through April - see the Department of Fish and Game for details. Butte Creek Canyon is rich in gold mining history - The Coleman Museum in Centerville is about 1 mile from the property and has an excellent collection of gold mining memorabilia and Maidu Indian artifacts. The Honey Run Covered Bridge was built in 1884 and is the only 3-level covered bridge left in the US. The canyon is filled with wildlife: ubiquitous deer, beaver, otter, bear, mountain lion, bobcat, Chinook salmon, all kinds of birds including wild turkey, bald eagle, blue heron, duck, and osprey. If you like to kayak a mild to moderate running creek, kayaking in the winter is especially popular. Summertime is the best for a 3 hour tubing ride form the property to the Honey Run Covered Bridge. It's a blast to swim with the salmon with your mask and snorkel in the swimming hole in front of the house.

We now provide a horseshoe pit in the meadow next to the lodge. There's also plenty of room to set up a volleyball net or disc golf court in the meadow. We provide one disc golf cage and some discs. Unfortunately, we do not have DSL or cable internet service in the canyon so we do not offer Internet service at the Lodge. Your 3G or LTE compatible tablet, ipad or cell phone can access the Internet using your AT&T or Sprint 3G or LTE service plan. While we do not offer actual phone service at the Lodge, your cell phone will work if you're using AT&T or Sprint.
