This property is located in Butte Creek Canyon in the foothills of the Cascades 10 miles from Chico. There is a year round large creek that runs through it. 'Butte Creek supports the largest run of wild, naturally spawned Spring Run Chinook Salmon in California,' according to the Friends of Butte Creek. In September, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival is held in the Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room. October is the time to see the Salmon spawn in Butte Creek. Catch and release fishing in allowed only from February through April - see the Department of Fish and Game for details. Butte Creek Canyon is rich in gold mining history - The Coleman Museum in Centerville is about 1 mile from the property and has an excellent collection of gold mining memorabilia and Maidu Indian artifacts. The Honey Run Covered Bridge was built in 1884 and is the only 3-level covered bridge left in the US. The canyon is filled with wildlife: ubiquitous deer, beaver, otter, bear, mountain lion, bobcat, Chinook salmon, all kinds of birds including wild turkey, bald eagle, blue heron, duck, and osprey. If you like to kayak a mild to moderate running creek, kayaking in the winter is especially popular. Summertime is the best for a 3 hour tubing ride form the property to the Honey Run Covered Bridge. It's a blast to swim with the salmon with your mask and snorkel in the swimming hole in front of the house.
