Photos and Description of the Lake Oroville vacation lodge rental
Nice, 5000 sq ft, 4 bedroom house +1 bed bungalow, 5 bath, creek, canyon view

The Lodge and Bungalow sit on 5 acres of beautiful natural canyon land. The house was modeled after lodge style houses in Lake Tahoe with large log posts and river rock walls decorating the fireplaces. It's a very family friendly, beautiful 4 bedroom home plus an attached private 1 bedroom bungalow that can easily accommodate 12 + guests.

While the Lodge is fully equiped for an extended family vacation, the Bungalow is perfect for a single or couples romantic gettaway. The Bungalow has a microwave and small refridgerator, walk in shower and king size bed.

The Lodge is perfect for family reunion or a relaxing place to stay after a wedding, baby or wedding shower or other group gatherings. It has 2 large kitchens, 5 bathrooms with 3 walk-in showers, 2 jetted soaking bathtubs, 2 wood burning stoves, 3 zone full house heating and air conditioning, a game room with ping-pong table, and a large deck with spectacular views of Butte Creek Canyon. Another deck overlooks Butte Creek for hanging out watching for Bald Eagles, osprey, otters, beaver, salmon, wild turkeys, or even the occasional bear. You can climb down a path to a deep swimming area and swim where Chinook salmon congregate during the summer waiting to spawn in October. The house is located an easy to drive 10 miles from Chico. There are plenty of recreational opportunities available including hiking, road and mountain biking, swimming, tubing, snorkeling or just relaxing by the creek. The Centerville Museum and the historic Honey Run Covered Bridge are nearby.

**If you would like to rent my property, you must contact me (the owner) directly by phone before you send any money.

About Max George

Laura and I are retired therapists who worked as school and college counselors and in private practice for over 30 years. We manage and maintain this house for my elderly father in law, Oscar. We have lived in our house nearby on 8 acres for over 20 years. While the vacation rental is completely private, living nearby helps us provide more security for our guests and affords a personal response to requests.

Why Max George chose Lake Oroville

This is a unique and beautiful property on Butte Creek. We love the natural setting of Butte Creek Canyon while being able to drive into Chico in 15 minutes. It's serene and quiet.

What makes this lodge unique

It's quiet except for the sound of the creek flowing around the bend.

This property is located in Butte Creek Canyon in the foothills of the Cascades 10 miles from Chico. There is a year round large creek that runs through it. 'Butte Creek supports the largest run of wild, naturally spawned Spring Run Chinook Salmon in California,' according to the Friends of Butte Creek. In September, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival is held in the Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room. October is the time to see the Salmon spawn in Butte Creek. Catch and release fishing in allowed only from February through April - see the Department of Fish and Game for details. Butte Creek Canyon is rich in gold mining history - The Coleman Museum in Centerville is about 1 mile from the property and has an excellent collection of gold mining memorabilia and Maidu Indian artifacts. The Honey Run Covered Bridge was built in 1884 and is the only 3-level covered bridge left in the US. The canyon is filled with wildlife: ubiquitous deer, beaver, otter, bear, mountain lion, bobcat, Chinook salmon, all kinds of birds including wild turkey, bald eagle, blue heron, duck, and osprey. If you like to kayak a mild to moderate running creek, kayaking in the winter is especially popular. Summertime is the best for a 3 hour tubing ride form the property to the Honey Run Covered Bridge. It's a blast to swim with the salmon with your mask and snorkel in the swimming hole in front of the house.

Family Time in the Canyon

5 of 5
Submitted: April 28, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
Seven of us stayed for 2 nights while attending a niece's wedding in Chico. We found the home to be clean and generally well appointed, and it met our needs almost perfectly. The queen beds seemed exceptionally small (most men in our party are over six feet tall) but were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and pillows. Bathrooms were well appointed (wash cloths would have been a nice touch) and very roomy. One bedroom has no closet or adjoining bath, and the half bath is across the house entirely. However, the web site did mention this so it wasn't a surprise.

There was a lot of privacy and space, and there are large windows in the living and dining rooms that take in the incredible views. The deck overlooking the creek is large and accommodating, and there is a lot of outdoor space, both in sun and shade, to relax.

We lacked for nothing, but be aware that you are quite a way from town so we found it easier to cook and eat at the house rather than drive so far for dinner. The web site also tells you there is no internet, TV or cell service, but some of those services would be a nice touch in the future.

Ideal place for a large group

5 of 5
Submitted: March 7, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
This is an ideal place for a large group that wants to be together. My family stayed here, which included people from young to old. Everyone enjoyed it. The kids had lots of room inside and out to play without getting on the adults' nerves. Fresh air and quiet, nice evening walks and a big deck with a great view. Plenty of kitchen space and bathrooms. They want to come back!

It was a dream come true!!

My husband and I wanted to stay in Chico but not downtown. We found the Butte Creek Canyon Lodge and stayed in the Bungalow unit. It was absolutely gorgeous! The grounds were so beautiful and peaceful. It was really cool listening to the river from our bed with the sliding glass door open. We relaxed on the deck overlooking the river. We couldnt believe how many decks were on this property. The owner Max George was AMAZING!! Talk about "exceeding expectations"!! If you ever needed Max he would be there within minutes, or in a minute :) Max lives right next door to the property and is a very honest and trustworthy guy. He really respects everyones privacy yet at the same time you know if you need him, hes there asap. The unit was super clean and comfy. Next time we stay there we would like to stay for a week AT LEAST! Youre in the country yet just 20 minutes from downtown Chico. Looking forward to going back. Max's rates are execeptionally reasonable as well.

A Wonderfu Getaway

Our family stayed at Butte Creek Canyon Lodge while in town for a wedding in Chico. We all had a wonderful experience and the lodge was perfect for our group, which ranged in age from 12-86! The lodge itself is beautifully built and quite spacious. The furnishings weren't anything fancy but each room was very comfortable and clean and the outside decks provided the perfect setting for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. Everyone had a ball exploring the creek too - either from along the waterfront or from the deck overlooking the creek. We even got to see the salmon spawning and the kids jumped in the cool water. We would definitely stay at the lodge again!
