Sebastien and Amanda adore Portland but have temporarily moved to France. Amanda’s mother Karin lives next door and is the acting property manager. Karin will provide the keys and is your local contact. She is happy to answer any questions you may have (before 8 pm please!) and give recommendations, orientation, etc. Additionally, Amanda and Sebastien will be available by email, and we provide an ample collection of maps and information on things to do and see in Portland and greater Oregon.
Our family had a WONDERFUL stay at this house. We are Portlanders who were living away for a couple of years, and were in search of a vacation rental over the holidays. We were greeted by the owners mother, who made us feel right at home - she even brought our children a little gift while she was out shopping one of the days! The house was impeccably clean and beautifully decorated in a classic Portland style. We have two children, and the downstairs area was just perfect for them with books and toys and a cute back bedroom. We were able to entertain friends in the main room comfortably, everything about our stay was great. I would HIGHLY recommend this vacation home!
I highly recommend this charming house for a stay in Portland! Clean, bright, well-appointed and just plain interesting, I loved all the art and design details. I was attending a conference downtown at the conference center, and it was a quick three block walk to the bus that took me right there. I felt like a Portland resident rather than a visitor. There's a Safeway and a Walgreens also within a very short walking distance. The neighborhood was clean and quiet and I felt very safe. The bigger beds were lumpy and I missed having a TV to catch my morning and evening news shows, but this place is a winner!
We had a wonderful time at this rental- the place was very clean and welcoming and was close to many restaurants and easy accessibility to 1-5, the convention center, the zoo and more. There was a fantastic selection of books for both us and the kids. We had great communication with the owners and all of our needs were answered and met.
I found the location to be in the area we wanted to be in. The inside of the house is nice, and the outside was very pretty. It was very clean. The caretaker was easily reached by email and phone. When I booked the place, I didn't realize I would make it in late that night. Since my In-Laws were staying there too, She ever so kindly let them in for me. I would recommend this house to all my friends and family. We were not far from the Zoo, and OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry). There were Restaurants in walking distance.
I get it - the owners of this property are soundly anti-consumerist. That's why the house is filled with antiques - antique plumbing (had to use a plunger every morning,) antique appliances, etc. This is most definitely a budget rental, although you wouldn't know that from the prices charged, nor from the property description on the internet. Everything about it mitigates against the comfort of the visitor. From the toilet seat that was a second away from falling off to the very scary steep stairs down to the washing machines with no hand railing, and frayed carpet to boot, and on to the sofa that was falling apart, and the teensy low-end tv. Maybe there are people who like to relax and watch a DVD after a busy day. Why not put something back into the upkeep of the place? My husband and I had to buy two new pillows and a hand massager because we were so sore after spending a few nights in the house. I attempted to have my payment returned after having a coughing fit and finding tennis ball-sized dust bunnies under my bed, but the owner was deeply offended that I disparaged her childhood home and her "blessed" mother. Yes, her mum left muffins for us, and fresh flowers, even gave us a few coffee beans; I thank her for that. This may be someone's idea of a home away from home, but it's definitely not mine. I didn't find it "cute" or "quaint," just uncomfortable. (Nice collection of books, though.) If you're in a service industry, treat it like a business, and don't get personally insulted by criticism; it's not professional. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? The owner threatened to keep our security deposit because of the "strange and disgusting" way we left the place. It's their job to clean their property, and this is the first time in many, many years of travel that we've ever had something like this said to us. I would not recommend this place to anyone I liked.
We had a great stay. We live in Oregon, but we were staying in Portland for our daughters wedding that week-end. It was a nice quiet neighborhood. Close to the airport. Nice and clean. No TV, but we weren't there long enough to watch it. We would definitely stay here again.
