This family lake house has one of the most unique settings on Flathead Lake and has been a gathering spot for families for generations. This rare property at the very tip of Angel Point* has 180 degree waterfront and magnificent panoramic views. Some of the amenities with this property include end of the road privacy, an incredible wrap-around deck with plenty of seating, screened in porch area with wood burning fireplace, and a place to dock your boat!
The house is configured for privacy, with two completely separate living areas with the downstairs walk out basement having a kitchen and eating area as well as a bedroom, bathroom and additional sleeping space in the main living area.
The upstairs master offers a king sized bed, a rock fireplace, and sliding glass doors that lead to the screened in porch. The main living, dining, kitchen, study area is a wide open floor plan. The large kitchen is completely equipped and like most of the home, offers magnificent views. There is a dining area just off the kitchen. The great room offers, a fireplace, an entire wall of window seats, sofas and chairs, book cases filled with books, magazines, movies, and floor to ceiling windows with unobstructed views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
The home can sleep 6 adults in beds with lots of extra space to sleep children.
Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi with some of the best fishing right out your door! In the summer, the recreation possibilities are endless. If you like shopping and sight-seeing, head over to Bigfork Village to shop the boutiques, or take in a live theatre performance at the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Glacier National Park is a 'must see' and is a beautiful drive just 40 minutes from Lakeside.
Take a swim off the dock, sit and relax, sunbathe, or perhaps do some fishing. It stays light until after 10 p.m. in the summer and then the most spectacular stars can be seen.
Once you've visited the Flathead you'll see why it's considered the 'Last Best Place', and will want to return again and again!
*Four wheel drive vehicles only to get down to the house. Alternative is to park above by the garage and walk down the steep driveway to the main house.
I stayed at this house with my fiance and one other couple for a week. The house was built by the owner and his family, and you can feel their personality in every corner of the house. It has unique shape, lay out, and decor.
I can't imagine many other houses on the lake have lake views quite like this one since it is almost on an island by itself. For this same reason though, on many of the days, we found it too windy to spend too much time on the deck during the day. This is likely also because we went at the very end of the summer and, being in Montana and on a lake, the weather was cooling down. We only had one day over 75, so if you're looking for a warmer vacation so you can take advantage of the sun and swimming, definitely try for the mid-summer months.
The driveway is extremely steep and it is absolutely necessary to have a 4 wheel drive car to get up and down. Otherwise, there is plenty of space for parking above the property and it's a short (but steep) walk down. We had a 4WD SUV and had no problem with the driveway all week.
The house is 2 hours from the Missoula airport, 1 hour from the entrance Glacier National Park, and less than an hour from lots of great nearby towns like Big Fork and Whitefish. 10-15 minutes down the road you'll find the center of Lakeside with all the basics like a grocery store, post office, gas station, as well as the Tamarack Brewery.
The upstairs and downstairs of this house are totally livable on their own, each has a bedroom, living space, bathroom, and kitchen. The upstairs is the main floor with lots of space to share, but it was great for each of our two couples to have our own space.
We conquered the little cliff jump (about 15 feet into 20-30 foot deep water) on the property near the deck that other reviewers have mentioned and that was a lot of fun. If we had gone at a slightly warmer time of year, we probably would have taken advantage of it more often. There is no beach area at this house because of the way the property is situated, but you can jump into the lake at the more shallow area near the dock or the cliff area where there is a ladder to get back out.
My personal opinion is that we'd love to return to Flathead Lake, but next time we'd like to try a place with a beach area for easier access to the water. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend this property, as long as that part of it is it ok with you. Montana has so much beauty to offer, we'll definitely be back for more!
This was an outstanding rental property for our annual lake vacation rental in the Flathead Valley. We spent most of the week on the deck enjoying the unbeatable views, hosted several friends from the valley who were amazed that this is now a rental property, and boated in the protected cove to the West of the house. The house is truly surrounded on 3 sides by water- I'm not sure if there is another rental on Flathead with these features. The pictoral history of the home is present on the walls including construction photos from the late 60's. Cliff jumping on the East side of the home was a highlight for the kids, and although we wished we could use the waterslide, the liability issues are understandable. The deep waters to the East side of the deck allow for jumping and diving off the 10+ foot rock outcropping. While the deck is huge, so is the living room with comfortable custom built seating and surround stereo. The protected screened area of the deck was also a big hit as the bugs were getting bad at this time of year everywhere on the lake. It is important, if older individuals or those with disabilities are going to use this rental property, that the rental party has access to a 4x4 vehicle. The driveway down to the house is almost TOO steep to walk. In my opinion, it is safer to ferry the guests to the house in a 4x4 rather than risk a fall injury on the hill. The dock area is very protected for boats and swimming while another highlight was swimming from the dock around the point to the cliffs and ladder. Despite only having 2 bedrooms, the house is plenty big enough for 8-10 people. The downstairs living room has a pull-out couch and there is plenty of space for an additional inflatable mattress either upstairs or downstairs. We were able to watch the bald eagles every morning and evening as well as several osprey. This was by far our best rental experience yet on Flathead Lake. A great rental for a family vacation!
