The Asheville Country Chalet is undoubtedly the largest 2-bedroom/1-bath vacation rental available in the area (approx. 2,500 square feet on the Main Level plus 1,000-1,500 square feet in the Lower Level Recreation Room and Apartment). It IS the best bargain considering the size, amenities, and view!
Designed as a Swiss Chalet, this custom-built home has transferred ownership only once since it was built in 1986. The cosmetic updates have maintained the original character of the house, while improving and adding modern conveniences and rustic elegance.

OPTIONAL ADD-ON AREA (for both www.vrbo.com/436612 and www.vrbo.com/495206): A 1-Bedroom Efficiency Apartment with a Full Bath and Full Kitchen. See below for a complete description and rates.
In addition to 2 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom, the Main Level 'Living Area' includes a Den, amply-supplied Kitchen, and a Dining Room open to the Living Room... the latter features a gas fireplace, 18' ceilings, and a wall of windows - enjoy the view from inside!
The two Bedrooms are ample in size, and have queen beds with linens and pillows provided. The closets and dressers are ready for your use, and every window has light-blocking curtains.
The Dining Table seats 10-12 and there is a pass-through to the Kitchen so all can gather near the chef! The Kitchen has a French-Door refrigerator, pantry, and a small table.
The Den has Charter cable, great for movies or letting the kids watch cartoons (please note, there are no Parental Controls set).
The ~900 square foot deck has a gable roof to provide shade in the seating area where there is a love-seat, chairs with ottomans, a coffee table, and side tables. The deck dining table has seating for 6, and a couple folding chairs are available for additional seating. Most guests find it difficult to leave the serenity of the deck!
The Lower Level Recreation Room features a Ping Pong Table, Air Hockey Table, a seating area with cable television, Laundry Area, and a stall shower for rinsing off before hot tub use... it’s a great space to spread out and fun for kids of all ages!
The 6-person hot tub is on the Lower Level patio. There is a Pergola in the yard shaded by the lush leaves of Wisteria, providing an additional outdoor entertainment area with an entirely different view! If travelling in winter, be aware that this property has the best sledding hill one could imagine!
REGARDING THE OPTION ADD-ON AREA: The Lower Level Apartment has an interior door separating it from the Recreation Room. Inside there is a private Bedroom with a Queen bed and windows facing East as well as South. It has the 3rd Full Bathroom and the 2nd Full Kitchen as well as a private Living/Dining area which is open to the Kitchen. It has a bar height table with 2 stools, a Queen Sleeper sofa, cable television, and a propane-fired woodstove. It is ideal for large groups, guests wanting privacy or the use of an additional oven/stove. The apartment (which sleeps 4) is available for an additional $100/night
NOTE: The Apartment is NOT available to separate parties, it is strictly an 'add on' area of the Chalet and an option ONLY to those making a reservation for the Main Level. If it is NOT included in your reservation, it will remain vacant for the duration of your stay.
Other amenities: Cable television, stereo receiver and CD player with indoor and outdoor speakers, a land line with unlimited domestic long distance, and high speed wi-fi.
Available upon request: a pack-n-play, high chair, and saucer. For the toddlers, there is one chair tall enough to sit at either the indoor or outdoor dining tables. Please specify in your Reservation Request if you'd like to use any of the children's items.
ANIMAL FRIENDLY!!! Pets must be up to date on vaccinations and flea preventative, obedient, and are not permitted to wander into the neighbors' yards (there is a fence along the boundary with the neighbor, however, there is not a fence between the Chalet and the Caretaker’s cottage). 'Dog Sheets' are provided to protect the couches and bedding if your pets are not accustomed staying on the floor. We also provide 'Dog Towels' to dry off paws and fur if they get wet in the morning dew or in the rain. We DO NOT charge a pet fee, however, we do expect all guests to maintain control over pets and prevent them from relieving themselves indoors or causing damage to the property or furnishings.
LOCATION: This property is only a few miles from the Coleman Boundary in the Pisgah National Forest, 3 miles from Navitat Canopy Adventures (quite possibly the best zipline company in the country), 10 minutes to Weaverville or Mars Hill and 20 minutes to Asheville. The French Broad River is easily accessible with numerous options for water sports: kayaking, rafting, tubing, and fly fishing (several Outfitters in the area rent kayaks, SUP's, and tubes). Bent Creek recreation area in Asheville ranks among the top 10 Mountain Biking sites in the country!
Voted 'Beer City' USA for 4 consecutive years, there is more than the fabulous craft breweries in Asheville. LaZoom Comedy Tours offer family-friendly as well as 'R-rated' adult entertainment, the Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful any time of year, the Biltmore Estate is the largest privately-owned house in the United States and is open for tours year-round, the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are lovely, and other recreational options are seemingly endless! Mix in Asheville's cuisine, art, and music... you are not likely to find a quaint vacation destination with so much to offer!
As mentioned above, the Chalet is available to rent in a variety of configurations! Consider it the a la carte version of a vacation rental… rent it as a 2-Bedroom or add the Master Suite for 3 Bedrooms on one-level. Include the Efficiency Apartment for an additional Bedroom, Bathroom, Kitchen, and private Living/Dining area!

This property and house leave people in awe... from the initial impression coming up the driveway to the expansive living area leading directly to that 'magnet' of a deck... it has the ideal balance of peace, views, and easy access to downtown and other amenities!
It is, undoubtedly, one of the most special properties in the Asheville area! Built in 1986 as a retirement residence with a Swiss Chalet design, there are charming and unique details throughout. The coat closet and pantry lights come on when the doors are opened, skylights and a passive solar design provide a light and bright atmosphere, the ceiling soars to 18' in the Living room, and all rooms of ample size.
The kitchen cabinets were hand-made by the original owner and feature a 'Small Appliance Garage': simply open the door with the brass 'Coffee Maker' label, and pull out the trolley upon which sits the coffee maker! The spice drawer might amuse you, or inspire you... the dumbwaiter is non-functioning, but still fun to check out! How often do you see a modern version of Thomas Jefferson's invention?
Multiple indoor and outdoor 'living areas' make this home an ideal get-away for intimate escapes, family reunions, or for your visitors who prefer a home rather than a hotel.
Spacious and comfortable, there are options to relax in/on the... Den, Living Room, Kitchen with a 'pass-through' to the Dining Room, the Deck, a shady pergola, and 8 acres upon which to roam!
UPDATE: As of October 2013, the Chalet can be rented with (or without) the lower level Recreation Room/laundry area and/or the Efficiency Apartment! The latter has its own kitchen, private bath, bedroom with a Queen, and a Living Area with a Queen sleeper sofa. Ideal for additional guests to have a bit of privacy from those staying on the main level!
What makes this cabin unique
I've gradually made improvements over the years, most of them cosmetic with a few upgrades to the major systems. Although it is still a 'work in progress', the home is fully functional and comfortable. It has already come a long way and I continue to enjoy the process of converting it into my vision and having the ability to share this special property with guests!
