Overview

Camden House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, with enclosed porch, deck, and dock on 3.4 acres

Our Blunting Blue is a fully furnished 2 bedroom house on 3.4 acres with a dock and lake frontage on Hosmer Pond. Included in the rental is: WiFi, Satellite, Utilities and 2 Pamlico 100 kayaks. The house is across the lake (great fishing and ice fishing) from the Camden Snow Bowl (where you can ski with a view of the ocean), which is Camden's recreation center: skiing, tubing, tennis, hiking, mountain biking and home of the National Toboggan Championships.

The house is less than a 5 min drive from several other hikes (Bald Rock, Fernald's Neck, Maiden's Cliff, Mt.Battie and Beech Hill Preserve), 3 miles from downtown Camden, surrounding the gorgeous Camden Harbor; with fine dining, casual dining, shopping, Schooner sailing and more, 3 miles from Laite Beach and 2 miles from the Goose River Golf Club. We are only 10 miles from downtown Rockland, Maine which is home to the Blues Festival and the Lobster festival. Rockland also has a beautiful harbor with the Breakwater lighthouse, which is a historic lighthouse at the end of a lovely walk across the 7/8 mile long breakwater.

There are two bedrooms in the house, each with a queen sized bed. The other rooms are: a bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room with a sofa sleeper, and reading nook with a futon. There is also an enclosed porch and a large outdoor deck.

Because we are dogs lovers ourselves, we do allow house-trained dogs, with a security deposit.

In Maine there is an 8% sales tax on vacation rentals, and we also charge a $100.00 cleaning fee.

About Kendra

Family of five, three children all under the age of 4. We have two dogs and love the idea of being able to provide a comfortable home for people who also like to vacation with their dogs.

Kendra purchased this house in 2012

Why Kendra chose Camden

We love this property because it has so much acreage and it is on the lake that abuts the Camden Snow Bowl Recreation Center. Perfect for year round outdoor activities and just a hop, skip and a jump from town.

What makes this house unique

We have two pamlico 100 kayaks (and accessories) for renters to use while they are visiting. You can walk out of the house, right down to the lake, onto our dock and take the kayaks for a ride on the gorgeous lake surrounded by Ragged Mountain (Camden Snow Bowl Recreation Center).

The Maine Way

  • 5 of 5
Had a very pleasant stay in this quiet and charming home. The home is close to all the activities and shopping I wanted to do yet far enough out of town to feel secluded. The home was clean and tidy and provided me with all that I needed during my trip. I would gladly return to this rental in the future and would recommend it to anyone I know.

Deceiving Photos - Terrible Experience - Renters Beware!!!

  • 1 of 5
I am absolutely shocked there are so many positive reviews for this house as we found it to be absolutely atrocious. The photos lead you to believe it is on a pond with a dock- what they don't tell you is the dock is a good 100 yards from the house through tick infested knee-high brush. The picnic table and back porch were not only splintered but eroded to the point where they were unusable. The kitchen seemed clean on the surface but when we tried to cook, the pans had a greasy film to them- we ended up buying disposal cookware during our visit. There was a musty smell throughout the house and the basement was flooded - granted it rained the night we arrived- but it does not seem to be a water tight house. We booked the house for 10 days expecting a relaxing get away from NYC - but felt so gross in the house we left after the 4th day. When trying to get our money back the owner (who is a very "defensive" attorney), they refused stating the house was in perfect condition. We lost the money for the entire week and could not have been less pleased.

Here is an exert from the letter we wrote:
---
Walking the property we were confronted with a decrepit moldy mush of a picnic table – a table that is clearly not able to be used. Then we started looking for the pond- surely we wouldn't have to trudge through tick infested woods to get to the pond- the ONLY reason we rented the house in the first place was to enjoy the pond. We went back into the house – removed our flip-flops and shorts- to put on pants, socks, and shoes- and set out to find the pond. After trudging through the brush we make it to the dock where literally half of the planks are loose and our dog refused to walk down. We were expecting a light stroll in our bathing suits to take a swim- what we ended up with was an insect repellent hike to a VERY unkempt/unsafe dock. We only went to the pond once.
We are leaving the house and are cutting our 10 day vacation early by 6 days as we are not able spend another night here – it hasn’t been a comfortable or enjoyable time for us with the condition of the house and the limitations to the pond. We feel we have been deceived by the listing and we’re greatly disappointed. We have had great luck with VRBO in the past using it many times and we encourage you to keep you property in better condition and to be more upfront with your renters about the true condition your house. We hope that you will refund us for the 6 days we are not spending in the house.

Owner's Response: I urge any readers to disregard this gentleman's negative review. If you have taken the time to read his baseless allegations, please take the time to read through my response.
First note the review date is October 7, 2014. This gentleman rented our cottage for over a week, beginning July 4, 2014. He stayed over the long holiday weekend, from Friday through Tuesday.
We live fifteen minutes from the house and he, like all of our guests, had all of our contact information. He had our cell phone numbers, our work numbers and our home number. We told him, as we do all of our guests, to contact us at any time if there are any problems. He did NOT contact us until AFTER he left the house.
After he left he made his claims about the house and we were horrified! We had a tenant leave on the day before he arrived and we were concerned that perhaps our cleaning service did not arrive...or worse that something had been done to our lovely little cottage which we treasure. We immediately contacted our cleaning woman and we went to inspect the house. When we arrived, everything was perfect. There was a birdhouse that had been blown down during the remnants of the hurricane that had blown through that weekend, and there was a bit of water in the basement (not a living space and again from the major storm). But the house smelled and looked wonderful.
We contacted this gentleman and told him that the house looked great. He made more (and new) baseless claims and asked for his money back for the days which he did not stay. We refused, as there was nothing wrong with the house and we began to believe that his intention the whole time was to rent the house for longer than a week, stay the long holiday weekend, and then ask for his money back as a way of getting around the seven day minimum stay requirement.
He then tried to have his credit card company charge back his payment. His own credit card company agreed with us and has returned the money to us that he tried to charge back. They made their decision this week, and lo and behold, here comes this review.
We love our little Blunting Blue cottage and we are very proud of it. If you have any interest in staying with us, we will make sure that you have a lovely stay, as we do for all of our guests, as you can see from all of our other reviews.

Wonderful Winter Retreat!

  • 5 of 5
Perfect getaway for a winter excursion. The house is inviting and warm. The location is close to both hiking and skiing. The town of Camden is an adorable New England coastal town with fun shopping and great restaurants. We were able to pack a lot in to a short vacation because there is a ton do and everything is close by! I hope to be able to return.

A Week Away

  • 5 of 5
Our stay in Camden, Maine was so enjoyable. The area is beautiful - mountains on one side and a lake in the backyard. The house is lovely and very clean. It could be used as a quiet retreat or as a "home base" for those seeking active adventure. It has an updated kitchen and bath and plenty of sleeping accommodations for an entire family. A washer/dryer is also available in the home. The owners left a welcome manual to answer any questions we may have encountered. While there, we also visited Rockland, which is a lovely town. We hope to return sometime!

Awesome rental home, and great value for the money. Is even better than expected. Will refer this home to others and hopefully will return here for years to come. Convenient to lovely Camden, but location cuts off a lot of summer traffic!
