My husband grew up in Baddeck so we travel to Cape Breton every year to visit with family and friends. We currently live in Alberta and recently had a child in May 2012, so this property will be used more and more as we travel to the east coast with our son!

Sheri or Scott MacPhee purchased this cottage in 2011

We decided to purchase this vacation home in Bucklaw since it is just minutes from Baddeck and we absolutely love the location! It is so close to amenities and the scenery is breathtaking!

The spectacular views overlook the Bras d'Or Lake and since our property reaches right down to the water's edge, we have a private road to access our very own pebble beach!

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful time my sisters and I had at this amazing home! The accommodations were so comfortable and the home well-stocked with everything for an enjoyable time. The owners made sure we had literature about the surrounding area and recommended places of interest. The location was great! Everything was super clean. We also enjoyed seeing eagles and Canada geese around the property. Truly a great place to stay on Cape Breton.

CELTIC COLOURS FESTIVAL STAY

  • 4 of 5
The location and setting are perfect for anyone attending the festival. Plenty of space for 5 adults; however, you need to be in good shape to climb the stairs, have good eyesight to spot the driveway at night and be 'happy' the mainfloor 'shower' whick was a 'trickle'.

In other words, the setting is awesome, but I wouldn't recommend the accommodation to those of us over 65 who need the convenience of accessible, working bathroom facilties, TVs that work with simple remotes and a landline telephone with a 1-800 number so that you can contact the owner who lives 2,000 miles away.

The festival is very popular, consequently property owners can name their own price, but under normal holiday circumstances it was far too expensive for what we were promised.

Owner's Response: Thank you for submitting a review on the Capestone Cottage... We do appreciate everyone's feedback so we can ensure all of our guests have a pleasant stay! Yes, we do not reside in Nova Scotia as we use our property as a vacation home when visiting family, but we do have our neighbours and other locals assisting with the maintenance and general upkeep of our cottage. So, we do have contacts in place to help out with any immediate issues. We apologize for the complexity of the TV remotes and have since added instructions to our welcome binder in hopes to avoid any confusion for our future guests. As for the bathroom facilities, they are in working order with the main shower and bath located on the second floor. Our shower on the main floor is not used often, so it may just need an adjustment to the shower head to control the water pressure. In any case, we have addressed your concerns and respect your opinion. Thanks again for your suggestions and glad to hear you enjoyed the setting of the cottage and the Celtic Colours Festival!

AMAZING VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
As amazing as the photos are, they still don't do the house justice. This is a beautiful and extremely clean home with a spectacular view. The owner's do a wonderful job of making their guests feel extremely welcome. We travel with 4 kids, and there was plenty of room for them to spread out and have their own space.
Nearby Baddeck offers many things to do and great restaurants. And a day spent exploring the Cabot Trail was one we'll always remember.
The owners were extremely professional to deal with and were helpful with providing information and answering questions. We would love to come back and will definitely recommend this cottage to anyone we know visiting the area!

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing a review on our property! We welcome all comments and suggestions and are happy to know you enjoyed your vacation at the Capestone... It's great to hear that you felt so taken care of before, during and after your stay! We agree with you that pictures don't do full justice... you truly have to be there to appreciate the layout of the land and cottage. There is plenty of space to relax and explore! Thanks for recommending our cottage to future travellers as well... "Word of Mouth" referrals definitely helps to promote the Capestone as the true gem that it is! If anyone wants to experience the island to it's fullest, our cottage offers everything you need and is in the perfect location!

BEAUTIFUL SCENERY AND LOTS TO DO!!

  • 5 of 5
I stayed at the Capestone Cottage for 11 days (over the Canada Day long weekend) with my 18 month old son and family. We had a great time as there were so many things to see and do!! The location of this property is awesome and the cottage was very clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place for anybody (young, old, with families, etc.). It is equipped with all the amenities and is surrounded by beautiful scenery... We had such a wonderful time sight seeing and learning what Cape Breton was all about! From driving the Cabot Trail, hiking up to the Uisge Ban Falls, visiting the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and the Fortress of Louisbourg, enjoying the mussel festival in Englishtown and all the Canada Day festivities in Baddeck (including our first Ceilidh), and sailing on the Bras d'Or Lakes on the Amoeba! There is so much to do all within just minutes... Can't wait to go back! Thanks for everything ;-)

EXCELLENT PLACE IN HEART OF CAPE BRETON

  • 5 of 5
We had a marvelous stay - we were made to feel so welcome! The house is beautiful, with a lovely open concept! And so clean! The owners are a pleasure to deal with - there were no surprises. We would stay again in a heart beat!

We were a family of four adults and two middle aged boys from Saskatchewan. They loved the loft! Capestone Cottage is near the Cabot Trail and 15 minutes from Baddeck - which in itself is a gem. We stayed one week, but could happily have settled in for a whole month if we had the time.

WONDERFUL VACATION TO THE EAST COAST

  • 5 of 5
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Capestone Cottage and felt right at home the moment we walked in... it is so cozy and spacious and what a wonderful view of the Bras d'Or lakes! My husband and I were so relaxed and spent countless hours sitting in the beach chairs overlooking the lake. We even saw 2 white tail deer while we were outside having our morning coffee! The bed was comfortable and the jet tub was great to soak in after a day of sightseeing with lots of walking. We loved the Amoeba sailboat tour and the visit to the Alexander Graham Bell museum! There is so much history to Baddeck, a lot more than I had expected! The drive around the Cabot Trail was also worth the day trip, including the short hike to Usige Ban falls... even had a chance to see some whales! All in all, our first trip to Nova Scotia was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back again soon. It was so nice to go home with so many great pictures and memories! Thank you Sheri & Scott!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are glad to hear you had a wonderful stay at our cottage and appreciate your feedback. Coziness, relaxation and comfort are what we aim to provide and there is nothing like a great place to unwind and relax at after a long day of travel or sight-seeing. We really want our guests to feel at home and are happy you chose the Capestone to do just that! We realize that some hotels lack the space and amenities that we have, so there is nothing better than living the cottage life... especially on the Bras d'Or!
