We are third owners of this beautiful Queen Ann house built in 1860. We purchased the house in 2004 with the intention of setting it up as a restorative inn and renovated to suit exactly that calling it 'Kismet Inn' which since its short inception has received many accolades for its beauty and location. The first year was praised highly in 'Boston Globe' followed by 'Portland Herald' 'Intelligent Traveller Magazine' 'Down East Magazine' 'Coastal Living Magazine' recognized as third best inn on cnn.com as well as being rated as number one on tripadvisor.com
We configures five bedrooms on the second floor each room at the Kismet Inn, Bed and Breakfast has been designed and decorated to create an ideal setting for peaceful meditation and relaxation as you enjoy the best of both worlds; an extraordinary setting combining the warmth and hospitality of the Old World with the indulgent luxury of an ensuite Japanese style deep soaking tubs or spray jet, pebble rock floor baths. The emphasis in each room is on individual elegance and grace. Each of our five very individual guest rooms has a special ambiance and charm all its own, offering the opportunity of five quite unique experiences.
Every detail has been attended to each room in order to provide the ultimate in beauty and comfort for a truly memorable, relaxing stay. Each room has been designed as a simple remedy for stress, providing a serene, embracing environment ideal for releasing your cares and rejuvenating your body and mind. Down comforters, handmade quilt bedspreads and textiles from world have been used to make up each of the hand-crafted beds, fitted with extraordinarily comfortable mattresses and pillows. High quality Persian/Tabriz carpets, antique lace and international fabric handicrafts feature in the décor of every guest room. In the ensuite bathrooms, the natural beauty of river rock is complemented by beautiful turquoise tiling and radiant heat floors custom made Japanese style/Turkish Hamam and shower. Throughout, transom windows ensure that you can enjoy the fresh Maine air whenever you like, but only why you choose to do so.

All five rooms are double occupancy with queen size bed.
Saffron suite is truly in a world of its own. Separated from the main guestroom floor, a private staircase leads you to this magical space. The one-of-a-kind walnut wooden bed handcrafted by Mark Donovan and adorned with autumn colors handmade quilt and draped silk creates a romantic aura. A bay window and natural hardwood floors create a feeling of home. The large bathroom with custom made deep Japanese style soaking tub which also resembles Turkish Hamam makes you feel as that you are truly in a world of your own.
Sabalan beckons you to enter. The handcrafted white bed frame with red satin hand quilt made with sheep wool complements the inviting seating area of this delightful suite. Step down to the armoire and the entry to the oversized bathroom with Japanese style soaking tub and transom window affording total privacy but a sense of tranquility. You may find this suite so comfortable, you may forget that the town of Bath and beautiful Maine were your ultimate destination. This suite has a small private room with a futon mattres on the floor for a third person.
Safari, this quiet guestroom speaks volumes. It’s eclectic charm and grace is indicative of the unique attraction of the Kismet Inn Bed and Breakfast. The bed is as uniquely handcrafted as the tree from which it was derived, and the accompanying furniture and wall art lend a multi-cultural and worldly touch. The modern bathroom with radiant heat pebble floor and spray jets provides a wonderful juxtaposition to the old world.
Suluhiana means 'The ones at peace with one another' in Farsi and Swahili, indeed it offers just that. The room sits on the North-West of the Kismet Inn, Bed and Breakfast with a magnificent view of the sunset, 'Winter Street Church' and 'Spirit of the Sea' The iron bed handcrafted by a local blacksmith reflects the timeless, honest simplicity of its origin in Maine. The antique hand-stitched coverlet with other accompanying antiques and pottery complete this inviting guest room that is reminiscent of a wonderful era in New England history. Carefully selected colors imbue restfulness and serenity. The completely updated adjoining bathroom with radiant heat pebble floor and spray jets combines the pleasures of the new with the comforts of the old.
Sleigh Room ~ Impeccably crafted by a Mark Donovan, this modern version of the traditional sleigh bed embodies protected comfort. The hand-carved wooden frame from head to toe invites you to sink into ultra comfort and peacefulness reflective of the fountain of the 'Spirit of the Sea' right across from the window. Green prevails as the color of beauty and harmony of nature. The adjacent turquoise and pebbled radiant heat floor bathroom with state-of-the-art steam shower soothes your body and refreshes your soul.
The entry has a heavy old wooden door which opens to a small foyer and another old wooden door adorned with simple, beautiful stained glass opens to a light filled hall. To the right one of the parlors has been made into a library with custom built library again by Mark Donovan with a view of the 'Spirit of the Sea' fountain across the inn. The library is stocked with diverse books for all kinds of book lovers. Adjacent to the library is the Living Room with original pocket doors, radiator dated 1881, fireplace and big windows providing a panoramic view of the park, 'Spirit of the Sea' 'Winter Street Church' and the magnificent sunsets. The dining room sits between the kitchen and the living room with tall bay windows facing west that lets in the afternoon winter sun light up the room as well as the sunset. An archway leads to a dream kitchen tiled with Turkish travertine, double oven, black honed granite top, a big island with the stove top in the center with windows to all sides of the house. An archway from the kitchen leads to the other end of the house and a screen porch wraps around the west side of the house.
The entire house has oak, or birch and some poplar flooring. There is no carpeting only old, Persian area rugs or klims are on the floors which again sparsely not overdone. There is also a generator installed which means there will always be electricity thus never there is always hot water and heat.
The house has the best location in town sitting right across from 'Spirit of the Sea' fountain, the town library and the town green. Front street recognized as one of the top ten American Main Streets is perpendicular to Summer street, it has all the shops one needs, small family owned supermarket, fine dine such as 'Solo Bistro' antique shops, quilt shop, cafe creme, ornaments home store, three bookstores, children's clothing store, several boutiques, ice cream shop, massage and accupuncture + a natural food store and the greatest yarn store anyone could want called 'Halcyon Yarn' Once in town, you really don't need a car everything is within walking distance, all these stores are within a few minutes walking distance. I forgot to mention several banks and the fact that the town sits on Kennebec river so rich with history of ships and architectural buildings that belonged to ship captains.
The gardens of the inn are constantly being worked on, there is a custom made swing for two sit on comfortably with a gate that opens to the swing area.
The inn is 13 miles to 'Popham Beach' with 6 miles of beautiful beach to walk and 13 miles to 'Reid State Park' with 2 miles beach, big rocks and cliffs to climb. It is also close to Portland (40 miles) with great restaurants and museums, Rockland is (40 miles) north of Bath where you can visit the famous 'Farnsworth Museum' as well as 'Primo Restaurant' and drive a few miles north of Rockland to Rockport and Camden.
If you don't want to drive and wish to come for a weeks stay, there will be a train from Boston to Brunswick with is only 10 minutes drive from the inn.
The inn is ideal to rent for family reunions, book clubs, knitting groups, girlfriends or just to be. I can easily arrange private yoga classes for you that will be held in the yoga studio on the third floor, massages and if you wish to dine at the inn that can also be done.
The rooms will be room service i.e. the room will be cleaned and the bed made every day. Towels provided and dried daily not changed. In the mornings there will be just coffee and toast. It you wish to have breakfast or other services such as yoga and massage included price will be different. There is a minimum stay of a week required.
