Wendy and Joel Southern welcome visitors who want to feel at home in a distinguished, yet cozy cottage in a beautiful, natural setting. Creekwood is our family cabin, and we take great enjoyment in sharing this magical place with others who appreciate the natural world. We hope that you connect with the creek, the mountain hollow, and the woodland inhabitants as much as we do.

Wendy Southern purchased this cabin in 2012

Joel's parents owned and managed several cabins in Townsend, including Creekwood, from the 1970s through 2005. He grew up hiking in the Smokies every chance he could get. While Townsend has grown up a bit since those days, we are pleased that it has remained the 'Peaceful Side of the Smokies'. We love the small town feel of Townsend, the locally owned restaurants and shops. Our family enjoys biking, hiking, and swimming in the Little River when we visit. It's just a great place for a family getaway.

As soon as you cross the footbridge over the creek, all the day-to-day worries are washed away. The gentle flow of the creek is the focus here. Creekwood Cabin is just the place to reconnect with the pace of nature and a finer appreciation for the simple joys in life. Come, rejuvenate your spirit amid the energy and beauty of the Smoky Mountains.

One of the top vacations we have had!

The cabin is perfect and the proprietors are top notch! You can't help but relax with the soothing sounds of the creek just outside, just crack a window and sleep like a baby. This is a great area for a relaxing vacation, no chain restaurants, no Wal-Mart, just fun and relaxing. You can stay home and sit by the creek, walk down to the end of the street and get a bite to eat or go for a bike ride. The entrance to the National Park is just 5 minutes away with Cades Cove just 15 minutes away. We went hiking pretty much every day, saw many deer, turkeys, otters and even a few bears (from a distance). If you can, a bike ride at Cades Cove is a must. On Wednesday mornings the road is open to bikes only and you can rent a bike right at the park. Plenty of tubing is available as well if you like getting wet! All of the "mom and pop" restaurants were great, we tried several. We would definitely recommend this vacation spot! Sorry it took us so long to right the review.

This cabin was exactly what we needed! It is so relaxing and the setting is beautiful. It is exactly as described, and Wendy is very accomodating, and respond's very quickly.
If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg, then this place isn't for you. If you are looking to get away from it all, then this is the place to do it. It was absolutley enchanting,

Very old cabin next to a creek .They would never allow building so close to the water today. Can read in the porch area and enjoy the creek flowing down the hill even in bad weather. Nicely renovated ,hardwood floors, nice sky light in bathroom adds natural light, lots of pots and pans in the kitchen made it easy to cook Christmas dinner. We stayed downstairs and the pull out bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept on. Good TV and fireplace heater. Extra bathroom downstairs was a good addition. Cell phone coverage is poor inside but when walking the dog up the road it picked up fine.

Needs a microwave!! Portable washer/dryer would help also. Another TV upstairs.

Grandparents down to the grandchildren enjoyed the stay so much. The layout of the house gave each family enough privacy and yet plenty of time together. The play room for the grandchildren was stocked with unique toys to keep them exploring while we were indoors. Loved the patio, chiminea and gazebo. The location of the home gave us perfect access to areas in Tennessee that were on our list to explore. Thank you for a wonderful week of relaxation.

Owner's Response: You are so very welcome. I absolutely love when three generations vacation together! The porch is a relaxing place to spend time together enjoying the view of the creek, playing with toys/games, or snuggling up to read. How wonderful that the grandchildren especially enjoyed it! I am so glad to hear the Creekwood's setting and location were a nice fit for your vacation. Hope to see you again another time!

Another enjoyable stay at Creekwood

This is our second time staying at Creekwood. We went last autumn just after it became available and we all had a great time - Mom, Dad and 3 pre-teen kids. This time was equally enjoyable. When not hiking or visiting the local attractions we sit out on the porch and the kids play in the creek. They were a little disappointed that the foosball table had gone but there were a couple of new games to keep them entertained. In two visits we have yet to turn on the TV although we do make use of the internet access and although a more powerful router would help ensure that the wifi signal covered the whole house. Highlight for us are the well equipped kitchen and the relaxing patio and creek area. One wish for is a washing machine, we really do not want to spend vacation time at laundromats and the kind of kids that love creeks are the same ones that go through multiple changes of clothes. We have ventured to a couple of local restaurants and Danny Kay's at the bottom of the road deserves special mention for the Cajun cooking and friendly staff. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into updating the cabin and the skylight in the bathroom is a welcome addition. We have found them very easy to work with and very responsive to questions. We hope to return again next year.

Owner's Response: It was certainly a joy to welcome you back to Creekwood! Your family was one of our first guests when we opened last year, so it brings an added specialness in thinking back over the year since you stayed last. I was eager for you to enjoy the updates (sorry about the loss of the foosball table...that was a hard decision)! I will certainly look into a stronger router, as we also had a weaker connection the last time we stayed. I wish I could promise a washer/dryer, but it would be quite a plumbing feat beyond our means at this point. I completely sympathize! Between boys and dogs when we stay, I know how convenient that would be. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate you sharing your experiences. We have really enjoyed Danny Kay's as well; who would have ever thought you could get a beignet in Townsend?! We look forward to having you stay at Creekwood again; I've certainly enjoyed our correspondence and your eye for great suggestions for the cabin!

We are 9 miles from Cades Cove, one of the most-loved sites within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can spend your days hiking, river swimming, fishing, horseback riding, bicycling, or just taking in the views.
