Great Rental

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days in this Home. The house is clean, spacious and is always cool as there is breeze blowing around the house constantly. Also the house is very safe. Mary was very helpful in showing us the directions to the house and also if we needed any help to contact us. The leeward beach is a few minutes away from the house. I am glad i saw the previous reviews and decided to book this property. The island has very good restaurants like Chopsticks, Kalookis, Sharkbites, Mango Reef, Tikki Hut, Fresh Catch etc. It is best to take a car rental and take bottled water from one of the various supermarkets on the island.

Great Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic vacation rental for those looking for something other then the resort experience. The house is roomy, clean and comfortable I already miss breakfast on the screened porch. The beach which is a five minute walk away is one of the most beautiful we have been to. We had miles of beach virtually to our self. The water is clear and the view unbelievable. The island itself has many great restaurants and services including good grocery stores. We would recommend a rental car to take advantage of all the island has to offer. We had a great time and hope to return soon.

Great little bungalow stay

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the bungalow for 13 nights, the place is ideal for a couple as it is close to the leeward beach about a 4 min walk. The bungalow has all what you need if you want to be away from the resort type places. I would return back there again if we were to return to Provo. Mary was helpful when we first got in touch to rent the bungalow, our only issue was barking dogs around the area but this is not something the owners can do much about, but apart from that it is a great little hide away. You will need a car though to get around but again that is all part of the fun to discover the island

Idyllic Beach Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Recommended 100%! My wife and I spent 6 days 5 nights at the Hummingbird Bungalow for our baby moon (7 months pregnant at the time) and could not have been happier! The bungalow is clean, spacious, and with a great ocean breeze, high ceilings and ceiling fans you almost never need the A/C in the bedroom - though it does work well if necessary. Kitchen has all supplies necessary for cooking and we enjoyed the screened in porch in the mornings and back deck after the beach.

There seem to be 2 ways to do the island: 1) all-inclusive resort, where you may not leave the property or surrounding area, or 2) private rental where the autonomous vacationer can enjoy all the island has to offer, as well the privacy of their own home. We chose the latter! Car rental is essential, and worthwhile (not to mention fun!) as you can explore the entire island very easily -- with several spectacular beaches it is worth exploring. That said, our favorite beach was the Pelican/Sunset beach which is a 7 minute walk down the road. Incredible turquoise water and essentially your own private beach! We may have seen a dozen people the entire time. We recommend driving 2 mins to Sunset beach which is a little longer walk with beach gear, but a more spacious segment of beach. Truly amazing. Waters were so calm we went for long swims down the beach, got out walked a bit, ate lunch, then swam some more.

Grocery store is easy to manage and has the necessities -- though we recommend bringing as many snacks and breakfast foods (granola, dried fruit, crackers, chocolate, etc) as it is significantly more pricey than at home.

Mary our host was extremely responsive and available, while not being intrusive. Very gracious and welcoming. Bikes, snorkel gear, and all linens etc provided. Wifi, iPod dock, and TV (though we never turned it on).

We absolutely recommend the cottage to all those who are interested in a more independent vacation; those who enjoy creating adventure and exploring on their own rather than being stuck in a resort (not to say luxury resorts are welcomed occasionally :)

The only minor improvement would be more towel racks in the bathroom. Though we made do hanging them on the railing and doors.

Enjoyed our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Hummingbird Guesthouse was wonderful. This was our first time on the island, but we decided we wanted to rent a house instead of staying on a resort. We found this house to be absolutely perfect for the experience we were looking for. It had everything we needed, including WiFi. The windows to the house stayed open the entire time, allowing the wonderful breezes to come through. The A/C unit in the bedroom works very well for the times when it got a little too warm. We went to the grocery store a couple of times and purchased food and drinks for the house for the times we knew we would be staying in.

It is a little ways from the "main areas" of shopping and restaurants, but we didn't find it to take long to get to where we needed to go. We rented a car, which I would recommend, but there are two bikes at the house which you could use if you are an avid bike rider. We used them to ride around the neighborhood, but we didn't use them to travel into town. There is a cafe/bakery close by at the Atrium resort, which has wonderful pastries, sandwiches, and an awesome BBQ buffet on Friday nights. It was a 2-minute drive but could also easily be gotten to by riding the bikes.

The beach is about a 5-7 minute walk from the house. It is a beautiful location, and there were few people on the beach each time we went. We found the waves to be a little rough at the times we went, but I am not sure if it was because of weather or if the water is usually like that. However, we enjoyed the beach, regardless, and you probably would have it to yourself at any given time.

As I said, it was our first time on the island, and we chose to rent a house instead of staying in a resort, and I am glad we did. I felt by staying at this house, we got a better "island experience." We felt safe here; every night starting at 6:00 p.m., there were security officers at the gatehouse entering the neighborhood, checking out who was coming in and out. We appreciated this. The neighborhood is not lit very well at night, but we still felt safe knowing the security guard patrol the neighborhood throughout the night.

Mary and James have both been very pleasant in every exchange we had with them, and we would recommend this house for anyone looking for a cozy island getaway.

Owner's Response: Thanks Kelly! I am glad you felt secure. We also recommend hiring a car unless you are an avid cyclist. All the best, Mary

Perfect Little House & Location!

  • 5 of 5

We recently traveled to Turks & Caicos and already want to return! James and Mary's guest house was absolutely wonderful and James and Mary were great hosts! The house is a great value for the money, very private, and perfect for the couple who don't mind cooking a few meals on vacation. While speaking to other travelers throughout our trip they were envious of our accommodations - especially the location to a very private beach. Typically there were less than half a dozen people as far as we could see - it really was unbelievable.

My wife and I used the pedal bikes made available by James & Mary and they came in handy to travel to nearby restaurants and harbor for a morning kayak run. We did rent scooters for a day and we are glad we did as it gave us an opportunity to really see the island.

The house itself was nice and comfortable. It's not too fancy but has everything you practically need for your trip. We really didn't spend a lot of time in the house anyways but when we did we felt at home. It has a private and secure location in a gated community.

One word of advise we would give is to stock up on snacks prior to your trip and bring with you as the local grocery store charges 2-3 times what you'd expect to pay in America.

We really can't say enough about this rental and dealing with James & Mary. It is a trip we are planning on taking again!
