Enjoy the best of the Keys has to offer with this 2 bed/2 Bath house located in Lower Matecumbe Key. It can sleep 4-6 adults. There are 2 Queen size beds in each bedroom plus a sleeper couch. Each bedroom has a full bath. Located at Mile Marker 76, the house is on canal front with dock age space and fish cleaning table. Ocean access is only a few minutes away. You will quickly be able to reach Alligater Reef Lighthouse for snorkeling on North America's only living-coral barrier reef. This sanctuary is a great place to watch dolphins and sea turtles in their natural habitat. There are shallow reefs for snorkelers and also a wide range of deeper reefs for experienced divers. For fishing enthusiasts you can fish on the Ocean side or the Bay side within minutes. The Keys are bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Straits of Florida on the other. Outside our reef, the water plunges to depths of 1,500 feet or more. Here, colorful dolphin fish teem just below the surface along mats of floating Sargassum grass or pieces of driftwood. Other prize fish to hook are blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, spearfish, king fish, wahoo, tuna, barracuda, cobia, grouper, snapper, jacks and sharks.
On the Gulf side is surrounded by miles of shallow sand and grass flats. Here, species like the bone fish root out crabs, shrimp and small fish in water as shallow as six inches. This back country is a region of uninhabited mangrove islands on the Gulf Side of the island chain. You can fish for tarpon, permit, bone fish, red fish, snook, sea trout, barracuda, jacks, sharks, and cobia.
After a day of catching fish, many local restaurants will cook your catch in with their special island recipes. Enjoy the sunset on the Bay while listening to live music in this beautiful setting. There is a serenity to the Keys but we also have great shopping at the local boutiques and souvenir shops. Right down the street from the house you can feed the Tarpon at Robbie's of Islamorada. They also offer kayaking through the mangroves, charter boat fishing, and much more. Whether you want to relax or go on an adventure this is a dream vacation home. We use it for fishing, diving, and just plain relaxing with the family. This home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Its furnishings are very nice and not suitable for parties. We are hoping that you and your family find the same pleasures that we do and return season after season. We will do whatever we can to make your stay comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable!
We currently live in Boca Raton, Florida. I am a Florida Native, raised in Coral Springs and grew up visiting the Keys. My husband was born and raised in New York but came to South Florida in his early twenties for a career opportunity and fell in love with the Florida lifestyle and this little piece of paradise called Islamorada.
Janet Hynes purchased this house in 2001
My husband and I bought this property in 2001 and have made many wonderful memories here with family and friends. We have always loved the Keys and especially Islamorada with it's perfect location in the middle Keys. Once we start crossing the bridges from the mainland we get an immediate sense of relation and happiness. We love to fish on both the ocean and the Bay. My husband also enjoys diving, lobstering and spear fishing. The house is perfectly located for us to be in the ocean or the bay side in a matter of minutes. We enjoy going to to the local restaurants by boat and relaxing at a local sand bar on the Bay side. We now have a two year old son so many of our activities are geared toward teaching him to enjoy the Florida Keys.
Our vacation home is truly a home away from home. We can sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset and ocean breeze. We can watch Osprey fly over head or see the Manatee's that come into the canal looking for fresh water. Tarpon, bait fish and even a crocodile may pass by.
This was a great getaway place. Pictures and descriptions are accurate. Beds linens and towels are all comfortable and plentiful. House is in a quiet neighborhood and on a canal that leads out to the ocean side . House has sea kayak, canoe, bikes, ping pong table and a fantastic tiki hut with rope swing chairs. You can kick back and fish, explore or relax here. Janet was super easy to deal with and helpful regarding the area. We have recommended it to friends.
Islamorada is known as the 'Sport fishing Capital of the World.' Islamorada is a perfect family destination offering something to do in, under, above or near the water 24 hours a day. The offshore waters hold plenty of opportunities for sport fishing for sailfish, wahoo, tuna, dolphin, marlin, snapper and grouper.
The shallow flats offer tarpon, bone fish, permit and barracuda plus many other species to take a cast at. In addition to fishing, the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay offer adventures in diving, snorkeling, para sailing, kayaking, wind-surfing and nature excursions such as swimming with the dolphins and feeding giant silver tarpon. Enjoy a beachfront cocktail, sunset dining on the bay, and shopping in the charming local shops and galleries. You can also take a scenic drive down US-1 to Key West which is located just 2 hours south of Islamorada. You can stroll down Duvall street, enjoy the southern charm and Carribbean flavor of this laid back island. Islamorada is the premier location whether you want to relax, sight see or go on an adventure. You will enjoy your island vacation.
