About management

My husband and I fell in love with horses and mountains on a family vacation to Montana. To get away from the Arizona summer heat, we went every summer.

After my son started college we decided to buy horses. What a disaster ! Eventually we did find 2 well broke Tennessee Walkers that we rode in the Arizona mountains, across rivers no less! We were naive; We trusted the advice of other horsemen, and had a great time. We felt no fear crossing rushing water waist deep. NOW, 20 years later? You would not be able to get me to do that for love or money!

We relocated to the Southeast with our 2 horses, dogs, and kitties and set up Morningstar Farms.

Suddenly, finding myself on 40 acres, instead of a postage stamp, my horse collection grew!

We enjoyed 10 years of breeding and raising Tennessee Walkers; getting involved with rescue organizations , and trail riding with friends.

management purchased this cabin in 2010

Why management chose Boone

Our dream was to find a place in the mountains with trails right outside our door. Loading up horses in the trailer and driving hours was no longer do-able.

We found our 'Catbird Seat' on top of the mountain surrounded by nature's beauty. Vacationing in the mountains has always seemed the ultimate in relaxation. In it's casual setting, our cabin is easy to feel relaxed and laid back in.

What makes this cabin unique

With retirement still a few years off, we enjoy our cabin on occasional weekends. I want to share the peaceful feeling of these mountains with others. When my guests arrive home after a few days, or week in these tranquil surroundings, they can pass that feeling onto their family and friends. It will make the world a better place.

Beautiful Little Piece of Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in the Cat Bird Seat over a long weekend for our anniversary. It was absolutely perfect! The cabin is warm and inviting. Liz has lots of amenities set up, including a small library of books, games, and toys to keep people entertained. Not that we used any of it. With a stunning vista on either side of the house, our choices were mainly "grill out while gazing at beautiful mountains" or "sit in the hot tub while gazing at beautiful mountains."

The best part about this cabin is its privacy. It is part of a neighborhood that's wrapped around the mountain. However, it's no cheap camp ground with cabins lined up in a row. They are spread out, and the foliage is dense enough to completely obscure your view of anybody else. We could not see the road from our cabin or our cabin from the road. It was far more secluded than most of the other cabins on the mountain.

At the base of the mountain is a little restaurant and horse ranch. The cabin is not affiliated with them, but they are very friendly and inviting. We wandered around on their trails and rented a couple horses for a tour, and the whole experience was wonderful. The scenery is truly idyllic, with rocky mountain streams babbling around every corner.

We will definitely recommend this place to others. From my limited experience, it's hard to find a rental cabin that isn't part of a cookie cutter chain. This is definitely out of that mold, and for anybody trying to get away from the world for a bit, it's exactly what you need.

Mountain cabin

Beautiful home, very quiet and peaceful. However the cabin needs a good cleaning from top to bottom. Curtains are coated with gray dust. Doors are very dusty.

Awesome few days!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week up in Leatherwood! It was gorgeous and the place was perfect! It was a nice refuge from our busy lives. We loved spending the evenings in the hot tub and relaxing on the porch. Place was very clean and comforting. The only issue we had was our GPS leading us on some crazy roads to the parkway. If it tells you to take Jake's Mountain Rd., find another route. It's a one lane, dirt road up the mountain hahaha. All in all, a great time! Thanks for the opportunity and God Bless!

Owner's Response: Yes, the GPS information can be very frustrating. One of my guests insisted on using it when checking in and could not understand why they were sent to a "one way" street that was going to shred their tires if they took it! I am very happy to hear you had a wonderful time!

Perfect 25th Wedding Anniversary!!!

  • 5 of 5

I could not have asked for more. My husband and I stayed at the cabin for a week to celebrate our 25th and it was just what the Dr ordered. We had a wonderful time and are already ready to go back. The cabin was so cozy and so nicely decorated. Even the hot tub was crystal clean. We enjoyed the views every minute we could. Dealing with the owner was so smooth. Liz was always so accommodating and patient with all my questions. We can't wait for our next visit.

Extended weekend trip

  • 4 of 5

Had a nice time during our stay. The cabin is very comfortable with just about everything you need. Nice views from the front and back porch areas. Hot tub is a great feature as well. About a 30 minute drive or so to restaurants/attractions so not bad at all. Overall a nice escape for my wife and I and would recommend to any couples needing a quiet and relaxing trip.

Filth Beyond Belief, this is the formal complaint made on behalf of myself and husband.

Due to the limit of information i can post this is all I am able to provide. But I promise it just kept gett8ing worse and correspondence became verbally abusive, but I will not back down. 50% refund just to be talked down to..... Heed this warning. This home was described as the finest accommodations and elegant, in which this home did not live up to the definition of either of these words. The floors were dirty, and seemed to have not been swept. As well as all carpeted areas of the house. Upon checking the bedding in both the master bedroom and guest bedroom, it became apparent that the bedding in the guest room has not been changed. The linens were littered with hair, dirt and lent. The sheets were also still imprinted into the mattress where it was obvious that someone had recently slept in that bed. The couch and chair in the living room were also stained and very badly soiled. At that time I attempted to contact the person listed in on an informational sheet in the home. I left a message on both her home and cell number and never received a return call from her. I then called the home owner regarding our findings. Because of the time of the evening, I took it upon myself to wash the linens in the guest room since that was the room my 7yr old daughter was to be sleeping. I also proceeded to clean the rest of the house until 1am. All rooms needed to be vacuumed, swept and hardwood and tile surfaces needed to be mopped, however there was no cleaning chemicals to mop the floors with. I did forward pictures to the home owner that evening to show proof of our findings. She emailed me back the next morning apologizing for the condition in the house was found and gave the excuse that her cleaning lady had been having personal issues. She at that time asked for my address so that she could send a partial refund.

At this time we assumed the rest of our stay would go smoothly. However through out the next day the house HVAC system seemed to be having some trouble keeping the house cool. When we checked the room temperature to the set temp. of the thermostat the room temp. was 80, and the thermostat was set to 73. Being a homeowner myself I checked the return air vent to see if there was a blockage present. It was at that time discovered that the filter had not been changed in what I estimated to be months. The filter was caked with dust, dirt, debris, animal hair, moths and other insects. That I had to change myself!!

Owner's Response: I do my best to provide excellent accommodations for my guests.Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the people working for me.I was very appreciative and thankful for the "heads up" my guest gave me and told her repeatedly. I was also horrified that I did not see my housekeeper slipping. I am guilty for not letting her go sooner. You got me by phone immediately & also called the housekeeper saying you would not "step foot" in the cabin until you knew if there were stains on the furniture. On the AC, I will gladly provide invoices to show the unit was serviced the day before your arrival.Because the housekeeper didn't keep up with her duties, the vent wasn't changed, causing damage to the unit, leaving guest without AC for 12 hours the night before check out.Thankfully it was 62 degrees & breezy that very night. The AC repair man was at the cabin at 8:30 AM to fix the problem. I am guilty for not realizing the microfiber sheets were such a problem! Although they were laundered and clean, every bit of lint from the towels got embedded in the fibers.I thought because of their softness and non staining feature that my guests would like them. But they are not like cotton sheets that look flat & taunt against a mattress pad. I am always looking for ways to improve a guest's stay. When I was notified of the problem of the dirty floor and sheets, I told the guest she would be getting a refund, & asked if there was anything else I could do to make this up to her, she wanted a free day in addition, which I agreed to, not knowing that she was expecting a FULL refund of her 4 day stay. She already got a large Military discount! Wednesday, June 18, 2014 11:58 AM, Guest email <.com> wrote re: anything else I can do? "No problem. The air thing really bothered me because I know how expensive it can be to have one repaired.Do you think it would be possible to extend our stay through Fri night and leaving Sat morning?" Wednesday, June 18, 2014 8:25 PM, Guest email <> wrote: "..we can be out by 9am Sat.. Thank you so so much ,M, our 7 year old is thrilled. Tomorrow we are going horse back riding. I absolutely love it up this way. It's so peaceful and even though it is a good drive from any stores it is totally worth it. This get away is just what we needed" All of the communication between the guest & I during her stay was friendly & helpful. If it had been so bad, why didn't they leave the cabin immediately and collect a FULL refund?
