My husband and I fell in love with horses and mountains on a family vacation to Montana. To get away from the Arizona summer heat, we went every summer.
After my son started college we decided to buy horses. What a disaster ! Eventually we did find 2 well broke Tennessee Walkers that we rode in the Arizona mountains, across rivers no less! We were naive; We trusted the advice of other horsemen, and had a great time. We felt no fear crossing rushing water waist deep. NOW, 20 years later? You would not be able to get me to do that for love or money!
We relocated to the Southeast with our 2 horses, dogs, and kitties and set up Morningstar Farms.
Suddenly, finding myself on 40 acres, instead of a postage stamp, my horse collection grew!
We enjoyed 10 years of breeding and raising Tennessee Walkers; getting involved with rescue organizations , and trail riding with friends.
Elizabeth purchased this cabin in 2010
Why Elizabeth chose Boone
Our dream was to find a place in the mountains with trails right outside our door. Loading up horses in the trailer and driving hours was no longer do-able.
We found our 'Catbird Seat' on top of the mountain surrounded by nature's beauty. Vacationing in the mountains has always seemed the ultimate in relaxation. In it's casual setting, our cabin is easy to feel relaxed and laid back in. If you are expecting a Ritz Carlton like experience, I can recommend outstanding properties, mine is just not one of them. I do not want to disappoint anyone. Some guests get distressed over bugs. While my outdoorsy guests think nothing about sweeping up a few bugs that squeezed thru the front door, laying there dead to greet them. It is not a modern hotel with air tight seams. Moths and bugs do get in. We are not in the wilderness, like some cabins, where you have to deal with the bear getting into your trash, or personal items. But a cabin in the mountains will have upsets from time to time. Know that before you book. Don't expect perfection and write a bad review when 'life happens' on your vacation. Experience the spontaneity in a safe environment . Do here what you would do at home if you had to fix something; if the supplies are in the closet use them. Change the light bulbs if they burn out, use more antfoam in the hot tub if needed, use the extra sheets that are in the closet if, need be. There is no button on my phone that says 'housekeeping'. Frivolous negative reviews about things like this not only hurt me, but potential guests as well. they want to know HOW problems were handled. I cannot fix something if I do not know about. And I would hate reading about a problem in a REVIEW that could have been fixed so easily had the guest been willing to call or email me. Let me stress, MOST (97%) of my guests do call me if they need something.
What makes this cabin unique
With retirement still a few years off, we enjoy our cabin on occasional weekends. I want to share the peaceful feeling of these mountains with others. When my guests arrive home after a few days, or week in these tranquil surroundings, they can pass that feeling onto their family and friends. It will make the world a better place.
