HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

The Summit Condo Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 5 - king bed, queen sleeper sofa, twin sleeper love seat.

Summer weekly rate: Just $650! including taxes, and cleaning. (Refundable deposits extra) Just click on 'Book-It', then select your dates, (Saturday to Saturday) to see an invoice, payment due dates and amounts, as well as a credit card payment form! The weekly rates includes the 12.5% taxes, and the $75 cleaning fee; the Summit Complex fee at registration is an additional $15. You have to make the first payment to hold the reservation. NO REFUNDS (unless I can rent your timeslot.) In addition, I require a $200 refundable damage deposit and a refundable $49 damage insurance fee. You will be refunded for both, the insurance fee, and the damage deposit, as soon as I get my report from my housekeeper. (In 2 years I have only kept $25 in damage deposits.)

I only accept payment through VRBO.

ACCOMODATIONS:

Nicely furnished; even has an Amish fireplace! The bunk bed hallway space was converted to an office that includes an HDMI monitor, keyboard and color scanner/printer and b/w laser jet printer - just bring your laptop! Upgraded High Speed Internet is free!

Includes Basic Cable as well as a blue-ray DVD player with HULU, Netflix, and Pandora - and a cabinet full of DVDs for those rare rainy days.

Improvements this fall include:

New window treatment to darken the living room for those that want to sleep in!

New laminate flooring in the bedroom and office!

New kitchen with granite countertops!

Large closet in the bedroom plus a smaller 2nd closet. Has two toilets, two sinks, one shower/bath tub; all new hardware. The bedroom has a Hilton quality king bed and a cozy leather love seat. The living room includes one new queen tempurpaedic sleeper, and a new twin size sleeper love seat. Just rotate the love seat on the tile floor to parallel it with the couch before opening it. There's also an auto-inflatable elevated twin air mattress in a box in the office alcove that would be a cozy fit in the hallway. Flat screen TVs in both the bedroom and living room.

The well equipped kitchen includes dinner settings for 8, a full array of small appliances, as well as new stainless appliances including microwave w/convection oven, stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator with ice maker, and filtered drink dispenser in the door. New AC/Heater (with turn off sensor when the patio door is opened) and water heater. There's even a high tech combo washer/dryer - throw the clothes in the wash before you go to bed and they are dry when you get up!

It's on the 9th floor, with a large balcony that overlooks the quieter garden area and beach on the west side of the complex. Facility amenities include a well equipped exercise room, large inside and outside Jacuzzis, sauna, and one of the two large outdoor pools is heated to 85 degrees all winter. Walk to restaurants and lots of arcades and rides. Or, in the winter, join fellow residents in the downstairs lounge for group activities any day of the week!

This is my permanent home, when I'm not traveling for work, so it is set up for my comfort. (Unlike the majority of Summit vacation rentals that have the uncomfortable wicker furniture and poor internet service.) I want you to feel like a cherished guest in my home.

I work for FEMA as a Reservist and get deployed to disasters around the country as a map maker. (You will see maps and GIS books throughout my home.) When I don't work I don't get paid so your visit helps me to more smoothly manage those down times. Currently (January, 2014) I am working in Springfield, Illinois on their late season tornado outbreak. After experiencing 30-50 below zero wind chill days here I can't wait to get back home for the rest of the winter!

Guestbook comments from the owner
Mary, many thanks for renting your home to us for the week. It is a lovely place with such personal touches. I feel like I'm staying at a friends' home. I have bragged on you and your lovely condo and everyone is so jealous. We have had a wonderful time relaxing! My son did the go-carts, husband and son golfed at Hombre Golf Club, and went on the 2 hour jet ski dolphin tour. Water is a little too cold for me. The weather has been beautiful all week. 75 is and sunny every day! Tomorrow we head back to Indianapolis, but I have taken one of your cards and we hope to return again, sooner rather than later. God Bless.

I live here - when I'm not deployed to disasters as a map maker. I work for FEMA and travel for months at a time. I've been working on the tornado outbreak this winter in Illinois.

Mary Meade purchased this condo in 2012

My home is your home. I have made it comfortable for myself and my friends, who use it when it's not rented. I'd like to consider you as my new friends and for everyone I leave packaged foods, e.g., coffee/tea, condiments, spaghetti/sauce, snacks, etc. in the cupboards and fridge so you don't have to run out for groceries the night you arrive. Since my housekeeper only resupplies the basics, I hope you replace anything that is getting low or has run out the next time you get to the store so my guests arriving after you can have the same convenience. Or leave your own favorite non-perishable treats.

I removed the bunk beds in the hallway in favor of a comfortable oversized single sleeper chair in the living room. I made an office where the bunk beds were and I upgraded to the high speed WIFI Internet so I could enjoy Hulu and Netflix. I added a larger closet in the bedroom with lots of shelving. I have furniture that I enjoy living with, including a fine dining set that, by sliding the single chair out of the way and the bench over, let's me have a table set for six. I have a dinette on the balcony as well as gravity chairs and side tables.

While all but one guest has said how much they like having my personal things available to use (fiction, non-fiction and cook books, lots of kitchen gadgets, office equipment and supplies, beach toys, etc) I did have one visitor that complained that it felt too much like a home and not like a vacation get away. I offered them a full refund if they moved out the night they arrived, even found them an alternative condo in the complex, but they decided to stay. Go figure.

The view is amazing! I have never seen anything more beautiful than a lightning storm come in over the waters at night. I enjoy the camaraderie of the locals and meeting interesting people from all over the world. Or just napping in my gravity chair, listening to the waves breaking on the shore, soaking up the warm winter sun that bakes the balcony in the afternoon. Spinakers is my favorite place to eat in town and it's just a short walk down the beach with tables on the beachs' edge.

BEST SUMMIT CONDO

  • 5 of 5
We have stayed at the Summit several times over the years in different condos, but this condo (Mary's) is by far the best one we have stayed at! She has gone above and beyond with providing her guests with everything you would ever need and little extras too for a wonderful vacation there! The king size bed here is so very comfy!! And the table and gravity chairs that she has on the big balcony was a great idea and we absolutely loved them! Thanks Mary for sharing your home with us and making us feel so welcome! We just hope that everyone will do their very best to take care of it while staying here so that it will always be as nice as it is and also so that Mary will want to continue to share her home with others like us!

Owner's Response: Michelle, thank you for your generous comments. I am gratified to know that my efforts to make you feel welcome are recognized. With all the traveling that I do for work I am quite choosy with accommodations I stay in and wouldn't want my guests to stay in anything less. I look forward to your next visit! Mary

MY WONDERFUL VISIT

  • 5 of 5
Hi Mary, I would like to thank you for sharing your home with us. It was just what we needed. It is truely a home away from home, comfy and has everything you need. I love the gravity chairs! I have seen them but never really thought they would be that great! The view from the balcony was just as you described. This is my first time renting from someone and now I know it is the only way to go.I do wish it would have had a blind or something over the sliding door though, my kids slept on the pull out sofa and were up with the sun (5:45), lol. I hope we will be able to book it again next year. Again, Thank You Very Much!

Owner's Response: Pamela,

I'm glad you and your family had a great time! The water should be wonderfully warm by now - unlike the water on the Long Island beaches where I could go. I'm too spoiled!

Thanks for the feedback about the windows. I did have heavy drapes up there but during Spring Break the brackets holding them pulled out of the walls. When I made a 3 day trip home after the break I was relieved the only damage was a broken cup and the drapes. When I looked at the wall, I just wasn't sure what to put up there that could withstand lots of use so I left the decorator valance up and determined to come up with a solution the next time I got home.

Unfortunately my condo has been rented every week through mid-August. My assignment in NYC should be finished by September so hopefully I can find a better solution when I get home. I'm guessing it will have to be a professional Home Depot kind of install. I'm open to ideas. :-)

Added NOTE 10/25/13:
I've decided on a set of vertical panels that Home Depot is installing next week. They are room darkening panels with 4" overlaps and, when open, they slide against the wall behind each other leaving the windows completely open for that beautiful view.
Once again, I'm glad you felt at home and I look forward to seeing you next year.

Warmly,
Mary

SMITH FAMILY

Thank you so much for such a wonderful place to stay. Your place was so much more than you even described. I fell in love with the gravity chairs.I am in the process of finding some for my deck at home. You could not ask for any better place to stay on the beach. Hopefully, I can book this place again in the future. Thank you so much

WONDERFUL AND RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
Love the condo! It had everything that we could possibly need and then some and the view was awesome! Mary was sweet enough to even leave us some fresh fruit in the refrigerator.

The condo was close to many great restaurants (Panera Bread, Angelo's Steak Pit, Capt. Andersons's, etc.) and a super Walmart so it was very convenient. The facility even had several rolling luggage carts and shopping carts to help us get our luggage and shopping bags to the condo. There were two pools, a small exercise area with universal type machines and treadmills, and even a mini arcade. The beach area was clean and well maintained. There were umbrellas and chairs for rent but were a little pricey ($25 a day); however, we had brought our own chairs and Mary had a small umbrella available.

Cons: Part of the facility needed a little freshening up (mildew smell) but Mary's condo was immaculate and very comfortable.
When we arrived on Monday the Summit management office charged us a $37 parking fee instead of the normal $15. They said it was the last day of "Spring Break" and that the fee would go back down on Tuesday. The clerk even suggested we check in a day later---as if! The higher fees should have ended on Sunday and an exception should have been granted as we (over 50 years old) were definitely not Spring Breakers. ;) However, Mary offered to reimburse us the excessive fee charge.

Mary was easy to contact by email and by phone which we greatly appreciated.

We would definitely recommend this condo to our family and friends.

Owner's Response: James,

I'm glad to hear you had a great time and enjoyed staying in my home. I agree there are many fine restaurants and the prices are quite reasonable. Of course I'm comparing that to where I am now, in NYC; to enjoy the restaurants here you have to rob a bank to get fine dining. Of course the government Per Diem does pay for the occasional indulgence. But I'd rather be next door, at a table in the back of Spinnakers, overlooking the butterfly preservation area and the beach, listening to some great country music, eating their outstanding gumbo.

Best of luck to your family as you return to China.

Warmly,
Mary
