Overview

Orr Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1 bath.

Nestled comfortably in Saunder's Bay with all the amenities of home this lake front property offers visitors a private location on Pelican Lake. It is centrally located within the best fishing and hunting areas in Northern Minnesota. Resting on over 10,000 acres of lake and 50 Islands makes for some unbeatable fishing.

It's isolated location will give visitors that away from the crowds feel yet with direct access to the activities or interests that makes lake front living so enjoyable. You can water ski here, or if requested, rent one of the available fishing boats and catch walleyes, northern pike, crappies on one of the best fisheries around, most can be caught right off the dock.

Bring your golf clubs and play at some of the area golf courses. Visitors may also use either the paddle boat or canoe to explore the bay or venture out onto greater Pelican Lake.

The cabin features a screened-in veranda that looks out onto the lake providing a comfortable living space to enjoy your meals, play cards or read a book.

Personally, I find the cabin a place where I can kick back and enjoy life's simple pleasures. Where the inherent calming effects of nature can soothe the stresses in our lives and clear the senses. A place to enjoy the company of friends and family.

The Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area makes this an excellent home base location for visitors interested in exploring Minnesota's Voyagers Country. The area surrounding the cabin offers an ideal habitat for a variety of birds and animals big and small. Visitors are likely to see Bald Eagles, Ospreys, beavers, otters or hear the wolves.

Visit the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary and get up close to black bears just minutes away or visit The International Wolf Center or The North American Bear Center in Ely, MN.

Amenities include: A queen size bed and two twins in separate bedrooms. A Futon in living room can fold out into a bed and accommodate 2 additional people.

Full kitchen; complete dinner ware and cooking utensils. Appliances include a electric double oven, microwave, coffee maker, Toaster oven, refrigerator and deep freezer chest.

About Joel Patino

Originally from the North Side of Chicago, I moved to northern California and attended San Francisco State University, where I met my wife of almost thirty years. We live in Sonoma County just north of San Francisco.

My background is in business management, finance and home construction. My interests include the exploring the outdoors, travel, U.S. Foreign Policy and International Trade and development.

Why Joel Patino chose Orr

I inherited this property as part of a group of adjoining lots that have been in the family for generations. It is where I've shared countless memories over the years enjoying the family, fishing and good times.

It's sitting makes it the most desirable, located in an semi-isolated region of Pelican lake, the bay is rarely explored by others and imparts the feeling of owning part or your own private lake.

Living and working in large urban areas can run you down physically, mentally and perhaps more importantly spiritually but this location always provides the remedy and refuge. I can recharge my batteries and relieve the stresses of a fast paced world. The sights and sounds of wildlife, the smell of fresh air and the texture of the surrounding wilderness can be intoxicating. It's because of these environments that someone can find the perfect place for relaxation and peace of mind.

Northern Retreat

What a find for the money! Because it is situated almost at the end of a strip of secluded cabins there was plenty of privacy and quiet to be found. There was a total of seven of us, ranging from toddler to pre-teen/teen to young adult and older. We were thrilled that we could bring our family dog with. The cabin was spacious and clean. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well. The hot water and furnace worked great. They had a paddle boat, but the wind the first day was a bit fierce to get it to go in any direction but the way the wind blew. We caught a Northern on our line we left out all night on the dock. Caught another Northern off of the dock, again! Everybody took turns going out in the canoe that was available. The lake was beautiful and the view was peaceful and amazing. We were so thrilled that they came to bring us some firewood. You warned us about the hunting season, but we didn't expect the neighbor to shoot ducks off his dock. What a surprise it was!

There were a few downsides that I have to comment on, though. The water originally came out of the faucet clear, and with enough pressure. As I continued to use the kitchen sink faucet the water pressure would come in and out, at times shooting/splashing water out. Momentary bursts which we attributed to the well pump, possibly?? The toilet also had issues with the water flow. We found that the plastic tube in the tank was kinked, and there was quite a bit of debris in tank as well. We flushed the tank with lots of pots of hot water and the water ran clean again, and the water flow improved significantly. We figured the build up had to do with not being used for awhile. The kitchen was very clean, but we had issues adjusting the cooking temp on the large front right burner. We found the electric griddle and used that. Wonderful! We were going to use the broiler, but it turned out that it was still dirty with what looked like burned pizza on the rack. Eventually we just ended up using the grill outside and that was great. We're sorry we couldn't clean that up, because the propane tank ran out of gas while cooking our dinner. Also, because it is a much older cabin there was a musty smell. We spent most of our time outside so it didn't affect us very much. A couple of us have sensitive allergies, but we remedied this as well. Other than these previous issues, we all thoroughly loved the experience are already talking about returning next season to stay for a full week! Thank you.
