This unique property was originally a barn for mules! No kidding! It was deconstructed and moved to a town lot for people to inhabit and enjoy. Keeping all the charm of a barn with modern day conveniences, this one of a kind property will be talked about for years to come! Three bedrooms on the lower level, one with a king bed, one queen and one twin room share a full bath. The second floor boasts a large kitchen with washer/dryer, dining and living area, and a second full bath. The upstairs loft has two twin beds and a queen bed. For the little ones there is another small loft that can sleep two. The Barn is in walking distance to the bus stop (free bus every 15 minutes all day every day) which takes you to the base of Mt. Crested Butte ski area. It is also located in walking distance to the quaint downtown area that has unique shopping and dining opportunities. Immediately down the street is a large park with playground equipment, a soccer field and picnic pavillion with restrooms. The rec path for bikers, hikers or walkers is also a very short walk away. In summer you can hike and bike from the Barn and in winter you can cross country ski directly from the house. Included in rental are two cruiser bikes for summer or winter.
We are a fun loving family of five that have grown up going to Crested Butte. We want to share our love of the area and all it has to offer with others!
Susan Creidenberg purchased this barn in 2012
I stayed at the Mule Barn mid-summer with my two sisters and our kids. The location was convenient to every park in town, and just one block from free shuttle to the ski resort area. Thank goodness for the free bikes that came with the house! We all used them every day we were there. The house had every amenity you could ask for; we cooked dinners and stayed in most nights--exhausted from all the daytime activities. Really can't say enough good things about the Mule Barn and Crested Butte!
My family had another fantastic stay at the Mule Barn!! We have been staying there for the past 13 years (the front unit) and truly enjoyed visiting Susan's unit for the first time. The unit is well appointed (all new appliances) and certainly "kid friendly" as well as relaxing for the adults. The boys loved the loft, it was the perfect space for them! The location is ideal for everything you want to do in Crested Butte. A shuttle bus to the mountain is just at the end of the block. The shopping, dining and grocery store are all within walking distance. You cannot go wrong booking your stay at the Mule Barn while visiting Crested Butte.
A great way to accommodate a large group. Lots of character, great location, very comfortable, and has everything you need. You won't want to leave!
The Mule barn is a great place to stay and apparently well known. On our way into Crested Butte we stopped at Monarch ski resort for a few runs. The bartender at the lodge asked where we were heading and when we told him about the Historic Mule Barn he actually knew the house we were talking about.
I would absolutely recommend staying at the mule barn. We had 9 adults and were all comfortable. If my kids had been with us they would have had a ball in this place. Very well kept, clean and cozy and decorated in a uniquely warm way. Great kitchen for cooking with everything you need to cook and plenty of room for dining. Loved the wood burning stove at the end of a long day of skiing. Short walk to the shuttles, grocery store and main street of town so no need at all for a car. Great little entry way with plenty of storage for all the ski gear. Separate thermostats by room to set for personal comfort. We had an amazing time and enjoyed our stay at the mule barn. We will absolutely stay here again.
The Mule Barn was a fun, relaxing, rustic place, perfect for a family gathering. We were in town for a nephew's wedding so my brother and his wife, my sister, and my daughter and I stayed here for a week of festivities. The living area provided plenty of space for relaxation and was roomy enough to have extra people drop by. The location was good for walking to restaurants and shops, and the 4 Way Stop was at the end of the street (for bus shuttle to the mountain). The only negative was that the Internet and wifi were not working while we were there. Also, the spiral stairs were funky and fun, but not for small children or anyone with limited motor skills.
Enjoy beautiful Crested Butte in the summer or winter! Wonderful family area with activities galore. In the summer there is biking, hiking, rafting, fishing, rock climbing, swimming, hot air balloon rides, jeep tours, four wheeling, zip line rides, and much more. Enjoy the many festivals and events, and the performing arts in town throughout the summer. The two town parks (one block and a few minutes walk away) offer great playgrounds, mini climbing wall, soccer and softball fields, and beach volleyball. Great fun for kids and adults! Or just walk up town, enjoy a coffee or drink, and soak in the sun.
Winter offers incredible extreme skiing, beginner, moderate and advanced skiing in the ski area, ski school, back country skiing, snow shoeing, kilometers of groomed cross country skiing, ice skating, sledding, tubing and more. Enjoy apres ski in town or on the mountain. Great food and drinks, excellent conversation and unique shopping abound. There is something for everyone, no matter what the age!
