Pleasant stay, worked as a base to see the west side of the island. Hot tub was fun, looking out over the view.
The bay was a 20 minute drive. Traffic heading north could be very slow according to the hour. Convenient little market close by. The weather was pleasant although we experience some wind and morning cool temps. It should be noted that the "window" in front of the kitchen sink is a screen only. The kitchen is moderately equipped, the pot and pan collection was scratched non stick surfaces ewww. A decent place, comfortable bed. Uncomfortable love seat. Wished it was a little more Cozy.
I was a little adventure to find O'hia Hale when we arrived in middle of the night. However, it was worth the efforts... We really loved our small green cottage with the large lanai with that great view. We started each day with a relaxing bath in the whirlpool and enjoyed our meals on the lanai. We loved the geckos who have become our friends during our stay there. They watched us every minute and tried to catch some crumbs from our bread or cake. The nights were cool and so calm and the bed was so good (I think it was a memory foam matresse) that we could sleep very deeply. The owners were very kind and provided us with lots of oranges and bananas from their property. The cottage was absolutely clean and we felt really good in it.
I think all the other things as to the equipment etc. has been said before by other visitors. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who needs to relax and does not need to be entertained.
During our move to Captain Cook, we needed a place to stay for a couple of weeks before we could move into our house. Our time at the Ohia Hale was such a treat!
For us, the location is perfect. Our house is just below the cottage. Even though it was a busy time for us, we took the time to enjoy the amazing view from the lanai. The sunset dinners were so nice after a long day.
The cottage has everything - kitchen, washer/dryer, internet and a grill. I would not hesitate to stay again. When friends and family visit, this will be on the top of list for supplemental places to stay.
Though we never met, Kyla was very helpful!
O hia Hale was the perfect vacation hideaway for us. We don't like condo-villes and prefer to be in quiet places where we can immerse ourselves in the Big Island's natural beauty. This rental was exactly what we were looking for. The birds serenaded us each morning and nothing beats having coffee and breakfast on the lanai overlooking Kealakekua Bay. The view is stunning and always offered new things to see. We stayed for ten days during which the cottage was our home base for adventures all over the island. After filling our pantry and fridge at Costco and Safeway, we took advantage of the cooler in the shed to pack lunches, snacks and cold drinks for each day's adventure. And when those adventures included beach time or snorkeling, it was very convenient to have the washer/dryer to get our swim suits and towels ready for the next day. Our hosts were delightful and only there when we needed them. The kitchen is well equipped and we used the gas grill several times. And after a long and active day, we enjoyed the hot tub, even when it rained. If we come back we will definitely try to book O hia Hale. I can't imagine a better spot!
We looked for quite a while for a cottage on the Kona side of the Big Island and were lucky enough to find this gem. This an exceptional cottage overlooking the beautiful Kealakekua Bay where you can relax after the day and enjoy amazing sunsets in a peaceful setting. The location is perfect for Island exploration being close to the main Island highway but far enough away to ensure evenings are quiet and surrounded by nature.
The cottage is only about 10 minutes away from fantastic snorkeling at the Bay and if you're lucky enough, swimming with wild dolphins. There's a great coffee shop 5 minutes away (The Coffee Shack) and a well stocked grocery store is 5 minutes away in the opposite direction. Getting to Volcanoes is very easy and Kona is a short drive as well.
The cottage has everything you need including snorkeling gear, boogie boards and a BBQ for fresh grilled fish! The nights are very quiet and temperatures great for sleeping. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and most likely will!
Amazing place to stay!!!! I do not know how to begin writing a recommendation that will do our stay here justice.
This was our first trip to Hawaii. We knew very little about the big island but we hit the jackpot with this home! This is not a modern flashy condo, it is a stunningly beautiful Hawaiian cottage with every amenity you could need, and a deck I am still dreaming about!
The pictures, as incredible as they are, cannot possibly be compared with the real thing, as difficult to imagine somehow at this cottage it is possible. The owners are friendly, attentive, accommodating and exceptionally helpful. They are readably available if you need them. They are attentive in a way that doesn't make you feel watched or spied on like some other places we have stayed. The cottage is very well maintained by people who obviously care a great deal for it. It is clean and comfortable, and the deck really takes it to another level. We will plan our next trip entirely based on the availability of this cottage, that is how special it is. It will make you feel at home in paradise.
We love to hike and explore so we were hoping for a great launching pad, and this cottage was beyond our dreams. It is perfect with the only exception being it is very painful to leave, we could have spent the week without ever leaving the cottage. We were able to see a ton on the island, with incredible snorkeling and hikes right near by. The grocery store is very close and makes it easy to prepare delicious meals so you can enjoy the spectacular view. There are restaurants and coffee shops near by that will be sure to hit the spot no matter what you are craving. I would recommend this to everyone! I cannot wait to go back, and I really don't know how we ever left to begin with.
Located in the heart of Captain Cook, this quaint, private home offers the best of South Kona and easy access to Kailua-Kona. Offering a great view a short drive to both Kealakekua Bay and The Place of Refuge there is plenty of cultural, historic sites to see. Only an hour and a half drive from Volcanos National Park and two hours from Hilo.
For your fresh food needs, a grocery store is located just up the road, and there are several great farmers markets for you to enjoy fresh organic fruits and vegetables.
