Beech Mountain House Rental Photos and Description

4BR/2BA (2kitchens,2 living rooms,2 decks)

*SPECIAL WEEKLY RATES - 20% DISCOUNT. ASK ABOUT SUMMER MONTHLY SPECIALS.

Double eating, living, and play space (2 Living Rooms, 2 Kitchens, 2 Decks) make this a perfect home for 2 small families or 1 large family with teenagers. (Please contact me if you are interested in renting only 1 floor of the home - anytime except holidays and weekends during peak season). This house is decorated with motivating photos of skiers, boarders, and climbers and has 13 ceiling-to-floor windows and 2 large decks. This creates a feeling of being in the middle of a large playground...which you are.

This quiet home, high in the trees, is less than 2 miles from Beech Mountain ski slopes, the golf course and clubhouse, tennis courts, heated Olympic swimming pool, fitness center, and recreation center with kids programs. There are also nearby hiking and biking trails.

If you prefer a more relaxing vacation at the home, the upstairs has a living room with fireplace and TV/DVD player with a selection of DVD's, board games and wi-fi internet service. The dining room has seating for 6 guests and the kitchen is well-equiped with cookware and dining ware. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and glass door entrance to the deck. There is also a twin bedroom upstairs. The upstairs deck has a charcoal grill and casual seating for 6. This deck has a gate at the stairs to keep a dog or small kids out of trouble and there is a dog house at the back of the wrap-around.

The upstairs and downstairs share an entrance from outside and a mudroom, but each have a private, secure entrance off the mudroom. The downstairs has a living room with fireplace, futon, TV/DVD player, and a selection of DVDs and board games as well. The kitchenette has a small refrigerator, two-burner stove, micro-wave, and full range of cooking and dining ware. The kitchen table seats 4. Also downstairs are a bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with twin beds, and a bathroom. The downstairs deck has a large swing on it.

This home is one of the original built on Beech Mountain - with a classic octagonal shape and high tongue-in-groove ceilings supported by large beams. It is being offered for rent for the first time. With new windows, new paint, a new heat/air conditioning/dehumidification system, and a superb housekeeper, it feels light and airy. It is well-furnished, and relaxing. Moreover, we have updated it with modern conveniences - we have wi-fi, a network extender which enables you to have cell service even without a smart phone, and two new TVs -one a smart TV, and the other with a Roku box, which enable you to get Netflicks, Hulu and other movie providers.

Beech Mountain, at 5.506', is the highest ski resort in Eastern America - with the highest temperatures in the 70's, it is a great escape from summer heat too. In winter, there skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and ice skating - all within 2 miles of our home. In summer, our Beech Mountain Club membership allows our guests access to swimming, tennis, golf, and the fitness and recreation centers and programs - again, all within 2 miles of our house.

We have enjoyed growing up in this home and hope that you will find it a great base for your adventures on Beech Mountain

About kitty calhoun

Growing up, I worked on ski patrol at Beech Mountain during the winter and at the tennis courts and recreation center during the summer. I went to the NC Outward Bound School, took up whitewater kayaking and climbing, and became a mountain guide for the American Alpine Institute. I still have many friends and connections on Beech Mountain and in the area - who are a great resource.

kitty calhoun purchased this house in 1973

Why kitty calhoun chose Beech Mountain

My parents chose to build on Beech Mountain because it offered the best skiing in the South. Ski Beech is still the best and over the years, has developed as an exceptional vacation resort for the spring, summer, and fall seasons as well.

What makes this house unique

This home is a particularly inspiring place to stay for 3 reasons: 1) I have lined up discounts with local outfitters, guides, and shops for my guests 2) the home is decorated with professional photos of people engaged in outdoor activities 3)it sits high up in the trees so from the second floor deck, it feels like you are up in a tree house - fun!

More than what you pay for.

  • 5 of 5
We were looking for an inexpensive rental that worked well for two families traveling together. This was perfect. Please note I am writing this review with the price in mind. For what you pay for, it's really excellent. The balconies were great, there were all of the amenities you could expect, and more. Firewood for the fireplaces, a grill for cooking out, nice appliances, great tvs for plugging the kids into a movie so adults could relax. You couldn't be outside in the morning, or looking out the window for more than a few minutes without seeing at least one deer, and typically several. Our suburban kids woke us up every day with these sightings. :)
If I had one complaint, it's that both families staying in the house got hopelessly lost on the way to the house. I'd use an exact mile marker after passing Fred's General Mercantile to know when to turn off the main road- both of us missed it, and in the dark, trying to rely on Garmins (mostly useless) and iPhones (entirely useless, as AT&T has approximately 4 square feet of coverage in Beech mountain), it got very frustrating, especially having to turn around on winding mountain roads using 18 point turns.
Everything else was really great. I'd definitely stay here again.
I know the owner allows pets. We didn't bring any, but I didn't detect any pet smell whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend this to 55+ or people with disabilities just due to the stairs leading into the house and the small spiral staircase to the second floor. (Now, if you're an active 55+, it's no problem).
The owner was prompt and courteous with information regarding our stay, which was nice as this was my first experience with VRBO. Thanks again!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your time in writing this review. I hope you enjoyed the new stainless refrigerator and oven. We are continuing to update our home and are happy you feel you got more than what you paid for.

Loved the weather, and space in the tree house!

  • 4 of 5
this is a reasonably priced rental and one of the very few that has air conditioning (on one floor) and accepts pets. We enjoyed our stay-the rental is very well equipped, lots of towels, dishes, etc., plenty of space. There are lots of steps, but we knew this before we came. The owner and house manager are very helpful in getting issues ironed out. It is also very nice to be able to use the Beech Mountain Country Club. The weather was wonderful and the mountain beautiful, and we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your visit in the treehouse. We are trying to keep the price down so you feel you are getting a good value. Although we have fans upstairs and the weather is generally cool in the summer, we plan to add air conditioning upstairs this year. And yes, we love your well-mannered pets.

Very nice group getaway

  • 5 of 5
The place was really nice. The cabin is not handicap accessible, but that didn't matter for my group. It was big enough for 10 people but would have been more comfortable for 8.

Owner's Response: I am glad you found our home "really nice". It is small for a group of 10. We are simply trying to offer a low cost alternative. But yes, the house was only designed for a max of 8 people.

Mountain retreat in the trees

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 4 nights for a destination wedding that was held at the Beech Mountain Golf Club which was less than 1/2 mile away. Great location that provided relaxation and solitude.
Home is very comfortable with retro furnishings that make it feel very livable for a fantastic price. Having the downstairs level for our friend who accompanied us provided privacy but also the ability to connect when we desired. It is a wonderful area for hiking, bird watching and just plain relaxing on the decks. In the winter it would be ideal for those interested in skiing and other outdoor activities. It is close enough to drive to Banner Elk and Boone for meals if desired, but we chose to bring our own food to eat in when we were not participating in wedding activities. Would definitely stay there again if we return to the NC mountains.

Owner's Response: I am glad you thought the house was reasonably priced. I know it becomes expensive with extra fees added on, so I have not increased my prices since the house was listed and do not plan to in the future. I am also glad you like the retro furnishings and I plan to keep reinvesting in and updating the house. I agree, it is a relaxing place.

Great trip!

  • 4 of 5
Our family of four enjoyed our long weekend at Beech Mountain. The home had plenty of space, a great fireplace, gorgeous deck, privacy and a neat layout allowing the kids to have their own space.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed staying at our home. We just made more improvements since you left - including a new front-loading washing machine, new arm chair for the upstairs living room, and new bear-proof trash bin outside. We have other improvements in the works and are looking forward to summer fun!

Doubled the fun at Double the Fun

  • 5 of 5
We doubled our fun at Double the Fun! The home comfortably housed two families, both of us had twins. The home has a well-equipped kitchen upstairs which made it easy for us to feed both families. The two separate spaces were also great for the kids and adults to all feel like they had enough space for the three days. The skiing was great at Beech Mountain as there was a heavy snow fall the day before we arrived and we sure are glad we had 4WD and snow tires. Not sure we would have been able to get in and out without them. However, this made for AWESOME sledding around the home. Our children had so much fun and it was certainly the perfect weekend getaway for us all.
