This home is one of the original built on Beech Mountain - with a classic octagonal shape and high tongue-in-groove ceilings supported by large beams. It is being offered for rent for the first time. With new windows, new paint, a new heat/air conditioning/dehumidification system, and a superb housekeeper, it feels light and airy. It is well-furnished, and relaxing. Moreover, we have updated it with modern conveniences - we have wi-fi, a network extender which enables you to have cell service even without a smart phone, and two new TVs -one a smart TV, and the other with a Roku box, which enable you to get Netflicks, Hulu and other movie providers.
Beech Mountain, at 5.506', is the highest ski resort in Eastern America - with the highest temperatures in the 70's, it is a great escape from summer heat too. In winter, there skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and ice skating - all within 2 miles of our home. In summer, our Beech Mountain Club membership allows our guests access to swimming, tennis, golf, and the fitness and recreation centers and programs - again, all within 2 miles of our house.
We have enjoyed growing up in this home and hope that you will find it a great base for your adventures on Beech Mountain
Growing up, I worked on ski patrol at Beech Mountain during the winter and at the tennis courts and recreation center during the summer. I went to the NC Outward Bound School, took up whitewater kayaking and climbing, and became a mountain guide for the American Alpine Institute. I still have many friends and connections on Beech Mountain and in the area - who are a great resource.
kitty calhoun purchased this house in 1973
My parents chose to build on Beech Mountain because it offered the best skiing in the South. Ski Beech is still the best and over the years, has developed as an exceptional vacation resort for the spring, summer, and fall seasons as well.
This home is a particularly inspiring place to stay for 3 reasons: 1) I have lined up discounts with local outfitters, guides, and shops for my guests 2) the home is decorated with professional photos of people engaged in outdoor activities 3)it sits high up in the trees so from the second floor deck, it feels like you are up in a tree house - fun!
This was a last minute visit for me and a friend to look at real estate. What we found is an extremely comfortable abode in the trees. It was like having your own adult size tree house. Like perfect, completely quite and serene. The owner was awesome and easy to work with. I highly suggest this home for a serene vaca.
The home was great, perfect location. The home was clean and everything we needed for the weekend. Kitty was very helpful and patient with me. She was always available and wanted to make sure to make that my group was comfortable.
Kitty was extremely kind and responsive to work with, which is such a gift when planning a trip away from home. The house is set up in a very unique way so that the family that my son and I travelled with got the top floor, while we had the bottom floor that included a mini kitchen and its own living room area. The deck is absolutely gorgeous and the house is very close to the ski slopes and town. One major bonus was the abundance of deer that were always around the home!!!! Kitty's home was very clean and nicely stocked where we had everything we needed to settle in. We highly recommended and will be back!
My group was a bit of a mess: going back and forth on who was coming, whether we had pets coming or not, we were just all over the place. Yet through it all, Kitty was so, so kind and accommodating and very patient with us, which I appreciated so much, I can't even tell you. I was already stressed trying to wrangle these people, she made everything super smoothly. Then when we arrived, the house was beautiful and comfortable! Our stay was an excellent one and we'll definitely be back. Thank you!
My friends and I stayed at this house recently, and were very impressed with both the house itself and the location. We were able to comfortably sleep 8, and even cook for all 8 in the upstairs kitchen. It was also very close to sugar and beech mountain. The house itself is set away from any neighbors, so privacy was no issue at all. I would highly recommend this place.
I visited this week for couple of days. Its nice property away from All but near to Skiing area.
Though no scenic area from windows but a nice big deck with lights outside makes it special. Its very clean and everything you need is available in there.
Kitty was so helpful in managing everything. Everything including booking this cabin in very quick way. She gave lots of options to save some money. She even got us discounted tickets for lift tickets. Paid money on our behalf and then arranged some one to even pick left over tickets. Again she made everything so easy and effortless which counts a lot. I would definitely come back again and would recommend to others.
