About Maria Rosenkranz

We love historic homes and live in one ourselves. We have raised 4 children, 3 still at home and appreciate the need to have a place to just relax. We love the historical context of the John Misener Jr. house, located on the original battle of Lundy's Lane. Ralf, who is a finish carpenter has a passion for restoring historic homes, and has worked on historic homes mainly in NOTL. We want to make sure that those that come here have the choice to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the property or go to be a part of all the action not too far. Enjoy drinks on the front porch, or chill in the back yard while something is cooking on the BBQ.

Maria Rosenkranz purchased this house in 2011

Why Maria Rosenkranz chose Niagara Falls

John Misener Jr. was the son of the original carriage maker of Drummondville, who worked with his father in the trade. The home as been lovingly maintained by the next owners, and then ourselves. We gave the house all the up to date amenities while maintaining it's historic charm. The 1700 sq ft house with 220+ foot lot gives you lots of space to relax indoors or out. While staying, you will discover old and new; every room has something from the past that you can discover.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this house because of the historical importance, the unique and original architecture and the meandering gardens, outbuildings on the property. The people who lived here cared about the property and only sold it to us knowing that we would respect it's integrity. You can see the fireworks over the falls from the front, or you can walk 10 min to the falls to see them close up.

Perfectly Delightful Treasure

  • 5 of 5

Loved, Loved, Loved our cozy getaway.

Accurately advertised as was close to everything, which made it easy for everyone in our party to walk to town and explore. We all enjoyed exploring the cottage inside and out and finding all sorts of little gems. The dinner bell and board games were a big hit.

This wonderful home and the friendly hospitality of our host Maria made it a perfect spot to catch up with some very special people and feel like we were entertaining them in our own home.

It was clean, tidy, well presented and had all the comforts of home. I loved the historical feel and the comfy beds.

Thank you again Maria....we will definitely be back.

Great Christmas home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here for a week over Christmas and New Years. The house looks like a dollhouse and is gorgeous inside too. The house had everything we needed, plenty of room and was an easy walk to the falls. Extra touches like Christmas placemats, chocolates on the bed and dining table and even a little Christmas tree made us feel welcome. Ralph welcomed us, gave great recommendations for wine tasting and even tipped us off about snow at the lake. (Very exciting for sub-tropical tourists)

We'd highly recommend this property and Ralph and Maria as hosts. It was our first experience of VRBO and we'd happily use it again.

A Charming, Local Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I, all residents of Niagara Falls, decided that, to begin the new year, we would celebrate together with a "stay-cation" of sorts: a weekend, couples retreat which would enable all 8 of us to unplug, recharge, and reconnect. After having contacted Maria, the property owner, to seamlessly set up our dates of stay, we were, upon our arrival to the house, greeted by Ralf, Maria's husband, whose passion for the historic home was infectious. He provided a personal tour of the entire property, pointing out noteworthy antiquities, facts, and oddities, and imparting much-appreciated knowledge of Niagara's wartime past along the way. The dwelling itself, situated on a battleground of the War of 1812, is nothing short of picturesque. The ornate detail on the building's exterior invites visitors onto the large, stone porch encircled by a quaint railing and garden. Once inside, the original hardwood flooring, which spreads throughout both the main and upper floors, begins to accentuate the destination's vintage and charming decor. In addition to boasting a spacious living room and formal dining room, the home features an eat-in kitchen, ideal for entertainment, with views and access to the property's large backyard. The rear features an old cooking stove, a mature landscape, and original barns and sheds used by the Meisner family: the original homeowners who, in Niagara, specialized in the making of carriages. The house features two bathrooms and four lavish bedrooms, each with their own individual theme and character. My partner and I stayed in the master bedroom, whose slay bed and 20th-century vanity truly made us feel as if we had stepped back in time. The house is immaculate and fully furnished, with all amenities, save for personal toiletries and food, generously provided by the owners. My group and I spent the weekend playing various board games, reading, and cooking all of our meals in the functional kitchen. Though we did bring our own forms of entertainment, the house does provide board games of their own and, in addition, a small library in the main living room which features complete sets of National Geographic magazine from as early as 1925 and books from the 19th-century. Though the home's floor plan facilitates a communal environment, the building's impressive size produces no shortage of privacy when desired. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed a remarkable weekend and will surely return. Collectively, we would recommend this site to all.

nice historic house

  • 5 of 5

The best thing I can say about the this home is we would stay here again when the occasion arises. Felt that we were back in time, yet had the amenities of today. The Canada side of Niagara falls is the best. Ralf the host was very accommodating. Don't miss the short drive up to Niagara on the lake. The Greek restaurant nearby was great. Regal diner was good for breakfast, also walking distance.

Wonderfull vacations

  • 5 of 5

We were my husband and I, my in laws, my parents and gran-parents and everyone enjoyed the week end. There is a very nice back yard to do BBQ's. The Home is simply beautiful (it's an old house). Its about 15 minutes walk distance from every attractions. If we have to go back to Niagara falls, we gonna rent this house again for sure! Owners are amazing.

Gorgeous House, superb location

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO rental and it exceeded any expectations we had. Ralph met us and gave us a warm welcome, showing us around the house. It is beautifully decorated and full of many interesting curiosities. It really is an historical house but fully renovated for modern living. We were all very comfortable and enjoyed having breakfast on the veranda. Although so close to town it was very quiet. We fully recommend this property. Thank you Ralph and Maria.
