Guestbook comments from the owner
Our stay at Bear Country Lodge could not have been any better. After reading the website I was very impressed with the history and sense of pride shown. After speaking with Diane I knew without a doubt this is where we wanted to vacation. My husband and I and 4 kids, 18, 17, 14, and 7, stayed for a week. Upon arriving we commented on how well kept the grounds were. Diane greeted us at the door and I felt like we were friends. She was so welcoming and immediately we felt comfortable. When Diane opened the door to our chalet my 7 year old commented, " wait till you guys see this?...we all laughed but I was impressed that a 7 year old would notice or care about how beautiful the chalet was. It was very beautiful done in true Adirondack style, knotty pine throughout, cozy, roomy, and had everything we needed, including beautiful bedding. My husband and I loved the front porch with Adirondack chairs and gas grill for BBQ's. A great place to have our coffee in the morning and enjoy the sunrise, and also cook our dinners at night while watching the sunset and listening to the Loons. We had our own campfire that the kids loved and cooked smores on at night while gazing at the mesmerizing stars. Diane would come by every night to make sure we had everything we needed and give the kids a ride on the golf cart. The lake was fantastic with the family of loons to watch and hear, and we got a great photo of an American Bald Eagle flying right over our heads which Diane has now posted on Facebook. We biked, went swimming, boating, horseback riding, visited nearby attractions, and just relaxed. As we sat at the dinner table reconnecting with each other, laughing, realizing that our daughter was going off to college in the fall, we realized this vacation spending quality time with our children is just what we needed. Our family like a lot of families have children involved in activities, jobs that we tend to bring home with us and everyday routines that disconnect us. Bear Country lodge, Diane's hospitality, our quality family time and all the great laughter has left us with great memories that will last a lifetime.

ONE OF THE BEST VACATIONS WE'VE EVER HAD!

One of the best vacations we've ever had!
  • 5 of 5
We've rented a few properties in the past and this one is one of the best. The cabin was beautifully decorated. It was very quiet and relaxing. We felt like we owned the lake for the whole week. We enjoyed all the activities: kayaking, canoeing, hiking, bird watching, etc. My husband and boys even went scuba diving in Lake George. And fishing, of course. My son caught a large fish which we had for dinner one night. Diane and Claire are very gracious hosts. They made us so comfortable, we almost did not leave.

Owner's Response: Dear Chris, Sherley, Chris and Jared,
I just loved having you guys as my guests. You really seemed to enjoy the lake, paddleboarding, kayaking, lounging on my new dock. I know it was a great thrill to catch such a large Bass Jared and to cook it for your family for dinner. You all looked so relaxed and content sitting around the campfire, watching the stars. I feel very honored when you told me that it was best vacation ever and that you wanted to make sure and book early for next year and maybe would take 2 chalets. I look forward to hearing from you. You guys were great. And.. thank you for leaving the chalet nice and clean. Many Thanks, Diane

HIDDEN TREASURE

  • 5 of 5
I was hesitant on writing this review because I wanted to keep this hidden gem all to myself. My family and I just came back from a week's stay at Diane's beautiful Bear Country Lodge. Our breath was taken away as soon as we drove up the path to our cabin. The grounds are impeccably maintained and the cabin is absolutely gorgeous. We only ventured off the grounds twice to go horse back riding and to visit lake George because we did not want to leave the property. Diane has put a lot of thought into making sure her guests are VERY comfortable. This is a place you do not want to miss. My son (12 years old) said it was his best trip ever which made me a very happy mom. I got to enjoy precious quality time with my family enjoying nature and each other. These memories are priceless and will last a lifetime. Thanks again Diane!!! I am positive I will be seeing you again.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Tessa, Nick, and Alex for choosing Bear Country Lodge for your vacation. It was MY pleasure to have you and your family as my guests. I enjoyed watching you enjoy the Lake, boating, competitive ping pong games, The Adirondack Experience ride, and toasting marshmallows/smores around your nightly campfires while enjoying the star filled sky. You are forever welcome here. I know you have a very high stress position at your firm and work lots of hours in the city so it was nice to see you so relaxed and able to connect with nature and have quality time with your family. We had lots of laughter together. I hope to see you for years to come. Thanks again.
Fondly, Diane

QUIET GETAWAY!

Great place to stay and bring the family, we practically had the lake to ourselves. Quiet, serene and perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of the work life. Connected with family and enjoyed the cabin, if was comfortable and welcoming.

Owner's Response: Thanks Camille for having your family and friends reunion at Bear Country Lodge. It was exciting to see guests come all the way from Australia, and California and interesting to converse with them. Great to hear the laughter from all of you having a great time paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, swimming, BBQing, some great games of ping pong and just sitting by the campfire. I am glad that you enjoyed the chalet and the beauty and tranquility of nature here. Also great to see your Dad joining in and enjoying the Bear Stories and my diverse collection of nature and field guide audio ornithology books. I hope to see you all again.
Thank you, Diane

GREAT CABIN ON A PERFECT LAKE - GET OUT, UNPLUG, AND PADDLE!

  • 5 of 5
Just got back from a great trip to the Bear Country Lodge - kids actually mostly unplugged for the week and it was a perfect vacation. Location allows you to really slow down and focus on your family - plus there is so much to do in a relatively close distance. Including horse back riding, hiking, amusement parks - not to mention lots of onsite activities like fishing, swimming, and paddling with every imaginable type of watercraft (kayaks - to rowboats and everything in between).
Miss it already.

Owner's Response: Chris, Donna, Allyson, Kevin, Lauren, and Barbara,
So great to have you as my guests. Wonderful to see you having so much fun together as a family and really happy that your mother was able to make the trip. I see that you really loved the lake and took full advantage of it. Kevin, I encouraged you to try and unplug for the week and it made me smile when you boasted to me on the second day that you had spent 6 hours on the lake, no computers, just swimming, boating, fishing, and horsing around with your Dad on the dock. Every morning I would see you guys walking down the path to the beach with your fishing poles, paddles, inflatables, life jackets. You tried out all the boats, the 4 inflatables, the 2 kayaks, the rowboat, the 2 canoes, the 2 paddleboards, the peddleboat. Chris you are the Paddleboard King ! ... and congratulations on catching the huge large mouth Bass. Late in the day I would see you playing ping pong in the recreation hall, BBQing, and then kicking back by the campfire and starwatching. Happy to hear how everyone was so relaxed and slept so much better than at home. I hope to see you again soon. Many Thanks, Diane

THE PERFECT SPOT!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were looking for a place to spend our 23rd wedding anniversary. After a lot of searching to find the perfect spot, we found Bear Country Lodge. And it was the perfect spot.
Our chalet was awesome: very clean , roomy and comfortable.
Diane, the owner was great. You can tell she really loves her Bear Country. She made our stay even better than expected.
From making sure we had everything we needed, to helping us find great dinner spots, Diane could not have been more helpful. She made reservations for us one night as we had no cell phone reception and even requested the best table in the restaurant.
The property is beautiful: the lake is right out the back door with kayaks, paddle boards, a beach, rafts and fishing, of course.
It is close to Lake George and all its attractions, but removed enough to avoid the crowds and commotion.
If you are looking for a place to sit back relax and enjoy the beauty of the Adirondacks, this is the place.

JEWEL IN THE AIDRONDACKS!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I love to get away and, with the kids getting older, it becomes more challenging every year to find the right place. I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived at Bear Country Lodge. There was no cell service, it was an hour car ride to Lake George, and there was no cable TV.

It was perfect!

I began every morning with a short walk or jog into the woods followed by a hearty breakfast. Then it was out on the lake for fishing, canoeing, kayaking or just a refreshing dip in the clear, blue water. The lake is so clean and the woods and wildlife so pristine, I felt like I was living on Walden Pond.

We usually cooked burgers on the grill for lunch and explored the area in the afternoon: Caves, Lake George, Horseback Riding, rafting, etc. Nearby Warrensburg has some nice restaurants and other attractions including a 24 hour Price Chopper that we used to re-supply throughout the week.

The best part of the day was after dark when would sit by the fire and gaze at the stars or listen for the mournful cries of the loons. In fact, the diversity of birds in the area produced some of the finest music I have ever heard. And I could not hear any man-made sounds in that symphony.

The actual Chalets were very accommodating. Our children are 18, 23, and 24, so everyone needs to be comfortable and every one was. There was enough room for when someone wanted space and plenty of communal space too. The Wifi helped keep us all as connected as we wanted to be. Funny thing is, as the week wore on, our need for "electronic" connection decreased. We connected more by playing cards, talking, and planning our excursions. It reminded me of simpler, easier times.

All in all the entire vacation was everything we hoped for. The only negative was when it ended. No one wanted to go home!

Owner's Response: Dear Tom, Carole, Emily, Kevin, and Brian,
Thank you so much for choosing Bear Country Lodge for your vacation. It really pleases me when I see families connecting together and fully enjoying nature. This is what we are all about. I am happy to hear that you were very comfortable in your chalet.
The campfires, star gazing, and the cry of the loons is a beautiful way to end your evening after spending your days on the lake, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing.
The 30 mile ride to Lake George can sometimes seem longer especially when your viewing the beautiful mountain scenery along the way, and if you spot a Black bear, as many of our guests did last week.
Thank you for the wonderful comment that you gave me just before you left. you said "Diane, you trully have a "SLICE OF HEAVEN HERE". That made me smile.
