The coast:
The local beaches are approx. 20mins away by car but the sea can be seen from the terraces.
Mojacar has Playa de las Ventanicas, the more remote Playa de la Sombrerico and the officially authorized nudist beach of Cala de la Granatilla near Sopalmo with clear & clean water ... a favourite tranquil beach accessed via the rived bed!
Garrucha has Playa de las Escobetas - a great place to people watch amidst the hustle and bustle of a genuine Spanish town.
Vera has Playa de las Marinas which is a haven for fishermen and birdwatchers. Playazo de Vera is for walking along the promenade, away from cars and surrounded by a huge sandy breach (although the further end is a naturists haven).
Getting to Playa de los Muertos takes a hearty walk but is often described as one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.
Further away is the film-land of the Cabo de Gata with Playa de Monsul.
In the other direction are the family friendly beaches of San Juan de los Terreros.
Golf :
For keen golfers there are 3 golf courses in the area (plus others within a drive away).
Valle del Este Par 71(20 minutes) was recently voted one of the top ten courses in Andalucia.
Desert Springs Golf Club Par 72 (30 minutes) was the first desert golf course in Europe, and is built to the standard of the famous desert course in Arizona.
Marina de la Torre Par 72 (20 minutes) is located opposite the beach in Mojacar, split into 2 distinct 9 holes on either side of the hill, overlooking the beach and sea.
There is a new course at Playa Macenas (30 minutes) but no reviews as yet.
For a more social or informal round, there is also Cortijo Grande 9 hole course.
Places to visit:
Close by there are many other interesting places to visit; the Tabernas desert where many films and commercials have been filmed (the latest being David Beckham shooting the Pepsi commercial) which has now two closely linked theme parks; Fort Bravo-Texas-Hollywood and Oasys-Mini-Hollywood and Zoo (45 minute drive).
There are also the Alhambra Palace in Granada (2&1/2 hours), the caves of Sorbas, Roquetas del Mar, Vera Aqua Park (25 minute drive) and many more attractions including Mojacar Pueblo, a classic white, Moorish hill town with its winding streets and great views. Well worth a visit (25 minutes) and the Cabo de Gato National Park for beaches, birdwatching and walking (45 minutes).
