Two bedrooms, pull out couch and two renovated bathrooms.

This wonderful 1800's carriage house sits on the grounds of the oldest house in Dennis, built in 1680, and provides a vacation setting for those seeking something different. Lovingly updated and beautifully decorated by an artist and writer, it's filled with original art, carefully selected antiques, and fine linens for a tranquil, restful vacation.

The vaulted living room features a beamed ceiling and original paintings and sculptures. A queen-size sleeper sofa opens opposite the floor-to-ceiling doors through which carriages and buggies once rolled. The kitchen displays track lighting and handmade Italian tiles. But why cook? For that special occasion, or a fun party, trained private chef services are available for an additional fee.

Upstairs the unique, romantic main bedroom features a cathedral ceiling and sunny sitting area. The twin bedroom’s special art and antiques can be changed to suit individual tenants’ interests. Two full baths, upstairs and down,BBQ-grill, central A/C, washer&dryer, microwave, coffeemaker, linens included, VCR/DVD player, high speed internet, no pets, no smoking. New Bosch washer/dryer, central air-conditioning, wireless internet service, gas grill are all provided.

Outside, a hammock and a new stone patio provide an opportunity to relax and enjoy a glass of wine while you cook a steak on the new gas grill.

This unique carriage house is situated between two tidal rivers on a quiet, family-oriented street. It’s a short walk to a small Bass River beach or a quick drive, only 1 and 9/10 mile to the fantastic West Dennis Beach. Stroll down the Swan River road that winds down to Nantucket Sound. Walk to Kream 'N Kone for great fried seafood or Norabella’s quaint ristorante for an Italian dinner. Bike the scenic Cape Cod Rail Trail from its beginning, just 1 and a half miles away. Explore Dennis's beaches on the bay side or sound side which are some of the finest in America, its antique and specialty shops, fine restaurants, museum, the Cape Playhouse and Cinema. Kayak rentals are only 3/10 mile away on Swan River. Two championship 18 hole golf courses, fishing, homemade ice cream, mini-golfing, conservation lands and many fresh-water ponds are all nearby.

About Gary Urgonski

We are a married couple living in the adjacent main house built in 1680. Ginny is a fiction writer who had a long career in publishing. She also had her own cafe and catering business specializing in Italian food. Gary retired a year ago from 35 years in education, most recently as the Director of Special Education at the local regional high school. He has been doing sculpting for 13 years and had his second show in the summer of 2012 at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. They lived in Italy south of Florence for a year and have been back many times since. They enjoy going to other countries and experiencing different cultures. They would like to share Cape Cod with others, particularly those who appreciate art, good food, good wine, and living life to its fullest. They share their house with their dog, Grigio, a friendly and playful Weimaraner who also welcomes guests.

The carriage house is a Greek Revival style building which was previously attached to the main house. In the 1930's, the previous owners gave their land to the town for a new school and when both buildings were moved a few blocks down the street, the main house and carriage house were separated and currently are situated close together. Our property is located right in the heart of Cape Cod.

What makes this cottage unique

Cape Cod is a very special place, known around the world. Surrounded by water on three sides, it has its own micro climate. Being cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter affords it beautiful weather. 'The Cape' has beaches on the ocean side, Nantucket Sound side and Cape Cod Bay side, cranberry bogs, paths through the woods, sand dunes and charming towns and villages. Cape Cod provides great restaurants with local seafood, biking, fishing, shopping, night life, and fun things for the kids as well. South Dennis is only a little over an hour away from airports in Boston or Providence, Rhode Island.

Our family enjoyed the beauty, serenity and uniqueness of this historic property recently. It has a feeling of being tucked away, yet the location was convenient to all The Cape has to offer, especially the awesome Dennis beaches. I love the charm of The Carriage House. The upgrades have aesthetically elevated it to a wonderful blend of the old and the new...comfy, cozy and inviting. I must also mention the personalized, warm and gracious hospitality of the owners as they truly enhanced our stay. I look forward to a return escape there sometime soon.

Our family has enjoyed many happy weeks at the carriage house, particularly with the updates of 2012. The space feels like no other 2 BR place because of it's high ceilings and great room (formerly for the carriages, of course). It's so spacious! Sophisticated & comfy new furnishings plus original art elevate the appeal; no typical seashore decor here. The new bathroom & washer/dryer downstairs added a new level of ease for our family. In the spacious master bedroom upstairs you'll find another high ceiling and a lovely nook with a settee; perfect for quiet time with a book or computer. With easy access to both Rt. 28 and Rt. 134, the location is convenient for day trips all over the Cape. A few short blocks away, a town right-of-way gives water access to Grand Cove, on Bass River, if canoeing or stand up paddle boarding is your thing. Cape Cod newbie? The hosts have a vast knowledge of "The Best of Cape Cod"... let them steer you in the right direction and you won't waste time or money during your precious vacation week. If you really want to live in the lap of luxury, hire Ginny to cook you some meals...they will be the most memorable ones you have on Cape Cod; having eaten on Cape Cod for 25 years, I can't think of a restaurant there with better food than Ginny's own! You're in for a treat there if you partake :)
