AmayanHeaven is an incredible ocean-front home in the beautiful small Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins - about 2 1/2 hours by car from the Belize City airport. Hopkins' proud traditions, sandy beaches, gently swaying coconut palms, and cool Caribbean breezes, will ensure an unforgettable vacation experience.

As English is the primary language spoken, you can fully enjoy the warmth and kindness of the local people, who are always welcoming and generous.

Construction of the 'The White House', as it is referred to locally, was completed in 2009 by Tobar Construction based in Spanish Lookout. Appointed with rich mahogany cabinetry, cabbage-bark hardwood flooring throughout, stainless steel appliances in the gorgeous chef's kitchen, private king-sized beds, and authentic hardwood furniture, The White House is sure to cure you of any stresses of everyday life.

Paradise is sitting on the private front veranda looking out over the sea, or relaxing on the roof to catch the full effect of the sea breeze and take advantage of the higher vantage point for views of the village and even the Cayes a few miles out on the reef. The property abounds with producing banana and mango trees and yellow and green coconut trees soon to be ready to reap as well. Sit back and have a drink, enjoy the white sandy beach which flows into the sparkling blue ocean, or plunge head first into the adventures that surround you in this Caribbean paradise!

After a trip through Belize in 2001, riding the buses, sleeping in hostels and B&B's, we were immediately taken by the unparalleled beauty of the country and the the honest friendliness of the Belizean people - especially the locals we met while traveling through the village of Hopkins. It truly was an awe-inspiring experience that convinced us that this country was a place we wanted to be a part of.

Hopkins is a Garifuna village on the coast of the Stann Creek District in Belize. Hopkins is considered by some Belizeans to be the cultural center of the Garifuna population in Belize. The town hosts its own national holiday, Hopkins Day, and welcomes people for their celebration on Garifuna Independence Day as well, they do this with drum ceremonies that can last till early hours in the morning.

The village is separated into two parts; the Northside (Baila) and the Southside (False Sittee). Hopkins is surrounded by the Maya Mountains and the Cockscomb Range inland, and the Caribbean Sea on its shore. The village was created in 1942 to replace the village of Newtown, which was devastated by a hurricane further up the coast.

Today Hopkins is a small but vibrant community of approximately 1,000 villagers. The people live mostly by farming and fishing, and more recently many have found work in the growing tourist industry. The residents are known for their friendliness and genuine hospitality, and welcome visitors to their village. Hopkins has a selection of gift shops, restaurants and small bars. Hopkins was recently voted 'The Friendliest Village in Belize' by Belize First Magazine.

Great beach house!

My wife and I just returned from 8 wonderful nights at Amayanheaven, and would recommend this house to anyone wanting to unplug and relax! Avis and the people of Hopkins are so welcoming and helpful. We traveled to this part of Belize exclusively for the diving, and Hamanasi's drivers will pick up/drop off right at the house if you just ask!

Recommendations: Try the Bundiga at Innie's Restaurant, and definitely have the neighbor Theresa prepare a home-cooked meal for you! The local farmer has a stand for fresh fruits and vegetables right across the road (doublecheck the days/times with Avis), and Caitlin's Bakery (past the basketball court) is awesome! Visit Driftwood for Jam Night Tuesday or Thirsty Thursdays for a really good beach party...

Note: The ocean breeze takes a day off every now and then, and the practice of burning household leaf litter and garbage is common in the village - luckily your own Caribbean swimming pool is right outside!

Beautiful home in a beautiful village

I surprized my new wife with a trip to Belize and this could be her favorite trip ever.
The majority of Hopkins Village is not a high maintainence, touristy destination, but this is why we fell in love with it. The people are awesome and this home is completely amazing. It was way too hard to get out of the comfortable beds in the morning. We just layed there listening to the waves. The kitchen had everything we needed. The owners are amazing and made helped in every way they could. Although Hopkins/Belize had plenty of things to explore, a couple days all we did was kick back at the house/beach.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway

We stayed at Cam and Karen's lovely home for 2 weeks this past February. We thoroughly enjoyed the laid back and friendly village of Hopkins and would recommend this area of Belize to anyone. To be able to go out and explore all day, and return to a comfortable 'home' was absolutely wonderful.
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Wonderful! Highly recommend!

We spent 10 days at this tastefully decorated vacation home and all our needs were met. The photos on the website don’t do it justice!
The beachfront location was amazing for relaxing on the large deck or taking a few steps across the soft sand to the ocean for a swim; one afternoon we saw a huge group of manta rays leap by! The kitchen was fully-equipped for preparing all of our meals which we enjoyed in the expansive dining area that opens onto the deck through French doors. Evenings were spent star-gazing from the rooftop, sitting out on the deck as the water glistened under the moon, or watching movies from the DVD library in the cozy and inviting living room. The bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept on with plenty of high-quality bedding and ceiling fans to keep us cool on the warmer nights. The main bath had a bright walk-in shower and we loved the abundant supply of big, fluffy towels. The local residents were friendly and Avis, the caretaker, was informative and helpful whenever we required her assistance.
“AmayanHeaven” was such a peaceful and rejuvenating place for us to spend our vacation – we really can’t recommend it highly enough!

Best Vacation Ever!

This home is gorgeous with amazing views and a private beach-front setting. The neighbouring villagers were incredibly welcoming and kind - so great that almost everyone speaks English which really made it easy to connect and learn the culture and find help getting around.

Everything we needed was right in the village and the home's kitchen is deluxe. Also, trucks with fresh vegetables, seafood and baking came around regularly so we did a lot of our own cooking (and drinking) for cheap! The beach is amazing and the water warm with only sand and shells under our feet.

Had an amazing fishing trip out to an enchanting little caye where we snorkelled while our guides grilled our catch along with a couple of fresh lobsters. (And they picked us up and dropped us right at our beach!)

We rented a car and made a few day trips to visit the Mayan ruins, art gallery and the surprisingly delightful Belize Zoo. Cave-tubing was also incredible! (Scary though...) Great that these are were all so close by. My brother in-law was able to take scuba lessons in the village and went on a guided dive to the near-by reef along with my husband and the professional crew at Hamanasi Resort (just down the beach).

The best times though were just hanging at the house, playing in the surf, and visiting with locals at one or another of the cozy sea-side pubs or restaurants.

Cam, the owner, was great in communicating all the details with us ahead of time and took the time to email to make sure all was well. Also, kudos to Avis and Kent the care-takers, who were super-friendly, helpful and accommodating.

We've done a lot of travelling over the years and visited some beautiful places but this was definitely
our most casual, relaxing, fun and stress-free vacation ever!
