Welcome to the simpler times. Make this darling beachhouse oceanfront on Maxwelton Beach, Whidbey Island your home away from home for the week. This cottage consistently draws whispers from all those who pass by, not only because of its dollhouse charm but also because of the endless stunning views of the Puget sound. There is a smooth ocean breeze that lightly gusts through this 1960's era beach house, which has been completely renovated and offers up a modern chic decor at 1960’s pricing. The 150 feet of unobstructed ocean views provide endless sunsets that can be seen from nearly every room in the house. The kitchen and bathroom are detailed with hexagon tile and country cabinets in addition to the modern luxuries of stainless steel appliances. Two queen beds in separate spaces provide enough separation for two couples, yet still give the feeling of a community dwelling.
Low tide brings about 300 feet of sand to explore, and western exposures gives the most sunlight at the desirable Southern end of Whidbey Island.
We live in Houston, so unfortunately we don't get to spend as much time at our beautiful beach house as we would like. It is impressively taken care of with luxury finishing and incredible style.
Joel purchased this cottage in 2011
The beach house is amazing. Many hours have been spent mulling over every piece in on every square foot, and the details are what give it the perfect charm.
You will love the beach access, the 5 star feeling inside, and the lovely feeling that you have escaped the world for your stay. The neighborhood will make you feel like you are living in a simpler world in a simpler time, or if you choose to keep to yourself you will be lost in your thoughts for days.
The cottage interior was exactly as pictured which is a very good thing in this case. Kitchen was well equipped, instructions were complete. No problems at all. Was surprised to find it there was a road between the cottage and the beach - although the road is not busy. Overall - we would recommend this cottage as a great base to explore the south end of the island that was filled with great sights and inviting communities.
We spent a lovely, relaxing weekend at The Quintessential Beach House. We have rented a few other places over the years on Whidbey Island and this was our favourite cottage so far. Maxwelton Beach is a beautiful beach to explore, the only thing I would suggest is to plan your walks on the beach during lower tides as it is a little difficult to access during high tide. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen is nicely equipped. The ONLY thing that would make this cottage 100% perfect is if it was located right on the beach.
This was such a perfect retreat! The area and street are quiet, the house is right across from the beach (with no house blocking the view), gorgeous sunsets, beautiful home. We loved it! Our one suggestion is to add screens to all the windows. The days were warm and we wanted to enjoy the cooler nights, but then had to choose between the bugs or the breeze. A very small point - overall we were extremely pleased.
We stayed here for our wedding and absolutely loved it. The location was great, the decor (as you can tell) was wonderful, the house was clean, the neighbors were nice and the beach was a very short walk. My only complaint was that the water pressure in the shower was pretty weak (I have insanely thick hair so I think I care more than most) but otherwise the house was exactly what were hoping it would be. We plan to make this an Anniversary trip every year :-)
Just a short drive from our home in Vancouver, this is the perfect weekend (or longer) getaway option. A scenic & pristine drive into a majestic pacific north west paradise. The area and surrounding communities are chock full of small local wineries, antique shops & littered with nurseries and artisan craft stores. The cabin itself sits on a quiet roadway steps from an amazingly accessible beach...it's not just close, but the tide simply goes out for hundreds of yards, allowing you to hunt Gwee ducks or dig your own clams or explore what the receding waters have left behind. We spent an evening touring(drinking) a massive selection of local craft beers we picked up at the grocery store, ate ourselves full of clams - that literally came from a beach steps away - and watched the sun set over the cascade mountains. The cabin itself is fantastic. Cozy, clean and refreshing. The contemporary stylings had my significant other in a tizzy, she spent our first hour fawning over the decor (I just wanted get to the beach). We came home recharged and excited about getting back here! Not only did we hit the VRBO lottery here, but this is going to be a regular weekend destination for us. Two thumbs up. Three Smiley Face emoticons. Five stars.
The house is fine (other than smelling like smoke). It's clean and tastefully decorated. The bed upstairs is comfy. We tried the bed downstairs but it's on wheels and moves around too much. (even with the chocks on the wheels) The stairs are super steep so keep that in mind. I'm in my 50s in relatively good shape and I had trouble with them. There is a fireplace but we were not provided firewood.
The biggest problem is beach access. The pictures are misleading making you think you can reach the beach by walking across the street. That is not the case. The property directly across is private property and I was told they frown upon neighbors walking thru to the beach. So, we tried accessing the beach via the park just down the street. Due to the tide pools, we were not able to get to the beach unless we wanted to wade thru pools. (In warm weather, no problem. In winter, problem) In the end, we couldn't access the beach by the house so we ended up going to Double Bluff. Accessing the beach is a big deal for us so, unfortunately, we can't highly recommend this house and it's doubtful that we will return.
