Welaka House Rental Photos and Description

Kick back and relax and enjoy the beauty of the river

This beautiful, newly decorated home is nestled under Spanish moss draped cypress trees with big, gorgeous views of the St. Johns and the Ocala National Forest. It is the perfect getaway to Old Florida with none of the crowds, overdevelopment and traffic. Whether you are a casual or serious fisherman, a hiker, a hunter, a reader or a boater this home and location will appeal to you. This very comfortable home, yard and dock gives a feeling of freedom and serenity that is hard to match and a peacefulness that helps you go back to a simpler, less complicated world. There are great views of the river whether you are in the nicely appointed kitchen, at the dining room table, sitting in one of our new leather reclining sofas or chair, sitting in the large screen room, out in the well-maintained St. Augustine yard or sipping your favorite beverage with a line or two in the water. Located 90 minutes from the Orlando area, 60 minutes from Jacksonville, St. Augustine or Daytona, this area, known as the “Bass Fishing Capital of the World, has a lot going on including not only bass but many salt water species as well, hiking in the nearby Welaka State Forest, bird and alligator watch on the nearby famous Oklawaha River, boating to Silver Glenn Springs or Salt Springs, ferry over to Ocala National Forest, numerous restaurants and bars nearby such as River Pub, Shrimps R Us, Palms Café Blue, marinas, bait, boat rentals and even the 18 hole Live Oak Golf Course.

About Karen

This is our weekend retreat and a place we consider a hidden secret. We never want to leave but not retired yet so have to go back to our 'real lives'. We found this place while camping at Salt Springs and rented a boat for the day. It had just gone on the market and it was next door to a piece of property my husband had bought and sold over 20 years ago. He always wanted to be on the river but took him 20 years to make that dream come true.

Karen purchased this house in 2012

Why Karen chose Welaka

It was meant to be for so many reason and so many coincidences and fate that made this purchase possible we knew it was our destiny.

What makes this house unique

The Sunsets, The Owl That Comes Every Night Right At Dark, The Wildlife, The Fresh Breeze, The Quiet, The Smell Of The River, The View, The View, The View And The View!

This one of those places that is even better in person than the listing. Our whole family had a great time just relaxing and fishing off the dock. It such a great location close to anything you need, but far out enough you will seem like you have the river to yourself. We already want to book our next trip here.

Paradise!

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely home and had a wonderful time. Ditto to all of the other reviews. We wanted to relax, read a book and get "away from it all" and this was the perfect place. We hope to return again soon. Loved it!

My husband and I stayed for a long weekend. We went boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, antiquing, and went swimming in 2 springs. We saw lots of wildlife including an owl and a monkey.

The house we rented was pretty, extremely clean, and had a wonderful, shaded backyard overlooking the river. We cooked all our meals right there in their kitchen.

What a nice peaceful, relaxing get away. I would recommend to family and friends.

Owner's Response: I always say you will see plenty of wildlife when at the house, but a monkey, well that is a first! I hope we see one. Glad you enjoyed the property! Thanks for being our guest

Did not want to leave

This is a wonderfully updated home on the St. Johns River on two sides. We were graciously allowed to bring our two Labs. The house is truly beautiful. Best of everything! Quiet, great fishing, perfect getaway for rest and relaxation. Everything in the home is top of the line. Views of the river from almost every room in the house. Never even had to turn on the air conditioner. Thank you Karen and Jim for perfectly wonderful vacation. Have recommended you highly!

Same time next year.

Can't say enough

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing! As soon as we walked in the door we felt at home and it was just what we were searching for. All the amenities we needed and more... clean, comfortable, accommodating. Screened in porch, fire pit, outside shower were all used over and over again. We spent most of our time outside sitting on the dock, taking walks, enjoying amazing sunsets, and just relaxing!

Karen and Jim provided us with suggestions for restaurants, groceries, fishing, etc. We didn't try all of them but The River Pub and Shrimp R Us were visited more than once and the Dollar General definitely came in handy.

Already planning on our next trip back to the River House.

Owner's Response: LOVE TO HEAR IT! I know this was your first VRBO rental and little hesitant so very happy to hear it exceeded your expectations. If we can't be enjoying the sunsets glad we can share with others. Look forward to having you back.
