Overview

Fairbanks Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Large (1100 Sq Ft) Cabin Sleeps 1-6 with private driveway and parking.

Welcome to Moose Walk Cabin. Your Alaskan home away from home is a two-story log home nestled on a quiet wooded lot by a large stream. The cabin is in a prime location, close to activities, but still remote enough to get that Alaska wilderness feel.

Perfect for aurora viewing, a romantic get away, family vacation, or extended stay.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Moose Walk Cabin is situated in the heart of all your Interior Alaska destinations: North Pole Alaska. Grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and the famous Santa Claus house are a short 4 miles from the cabin. Downtown Fairbanks and Fairbanks International Airport are a quick 20 minute drive.

THE CABIN

Downstairs:

Put your feet up and relax on the recliner couches as you look through the picture windows at the amazing aurora or view of the stream that abounds with wildlife. Moose, squirrels, ducks, Bald Eagles, owls, beavers, porcupines, and foxes are seen almost daily.

After a long day of site seeing, kick back with a movie on HBO or Showtime. With 185 channels to choose from, you won't miss your favorite show or sports team.

Slap on your apron. If you plan to cook for a large family or an elegant dinner for two, the full size kitchen, packed with utensils and dishes, is sure to meet any chef's needs. The dining area comfortably seats 6.

Upstairs:

Amble up the stairs where the open floor plan with two plush pillow top queen beds provide comfortable slumber and a futon gives the option of an additional full size bed.

Enjoy the full bathroom with combination shower/tub. Hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, and washcloths provided.

Unpack the suitcases--get comfortable. The large dresser, and plenty of closet space for storage, let you feel right at home for longer stays.

The windows have blinds for privacy and to provide a darker room when the summer midnight sun is still glowing.

OUTSIDE

Circle around the fire-pit. It's the perfect place for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. For those that want to cook a meal, a custom grill rack with a spit will meet your needs. If you don't have the time for open fire cooking, a propane grill is also provided.

Head to the large back yard for a game of horseshoes or playing catch with the kids.

Stroll across the yard to the back of the property where you will find a private wood fired sauna.

Turn into the large private driveway with your car, truck w/ trailer, RV or even a bus. There is lots of parking--even for a greyhound bus.

SUMMER VISITORS

Paddle down the meandering stream in a canoe for a romantic trip or to spend quality time with the kids. Two canoes with multiple sizes of life vests are provided.

Jump in the canoe or amble along the bank to fish for grayling by fly rod or spinning rod. Grayling are easier to catch on a fly rod. Don't worry if you have never fished with a fly rod. It is easy. Every guest who has used a fly rod for the first time at Moose Walk Cabin has caught fish. Please let us know if you need fishing instruction. We are happy to help. Fly rods and spinning rods are at the cabin for your use.

From the front door you can blaze endless miles of hiking, and ATV trails. Bring your ATVs; there is plenty of parking.

WINTER VISITORS

If comfortably watching natures greatest winter exhibition (the Aurora Borealis) is on your bucket list; then you've found the right place. No one knows what time of night the aurora will appear. Stay nice and cozy snuggled on the couch in the cabin, while you anxiously gaze out the large picture windows for the mystical aurora to begin its dance. While outside capturing those magical moments, don't worry about getting cold and missing a single second of the aurora. Nestle up to a crackling fire in front of the cabin as the skies mesmerize you with magical hues of green, purple, and red. Paths on the frozen ice are kept free of snow for alternate aurora shooting locations.

The winter weather turns our fishing kingdom into your very own private ice skating arena and hockey rink. Sticks, pucks, goals and some ice skates are provided. Playing in your winter boots is also a lot of fun--and safer for those that can't skate.

At the front porch, strap on your skis or snowshoes and trek out into the winter wonderland. You will find endless miles of trails waiting for you to discover them.

If riding snowmobile is more your style; bring it along. At the end of our road you will find trails that lead to the Chena Flood Plain and all the way to Fairbanks, Two Rivers, and Chena Hot Springs. There is plenty of parking for your trailer. We enjoy riding snowmobile as well. We can point you in the direction of great local trails.

After a long day of braving the Alaskan cold, unwind by the wood stove as you listen to the wood crackle and watch the flames dance across the logs. Wood is free and provided on site. We are happy to provide instruction for the wood stove. The wood stove will heat the cabin but not necessary to use. The cabin has a fuel oil heater as the primary heat source.

GREAT TO KNOW INFO

A rental vehicle is necessary when visiting Alaska. Public transportation is not what you see in other countries and big cities. Taxis are available, but cost is typically more than a rental vehicle. A one-way taxi trip to the airport is around $60.00. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary, but recommended if you plan to drive to the Arctic Circle.

About Terri Pangborn

We are an active duty military family. We were stationed in Fairbanks Alaska from 2005 to 2009. We were relocated by the military, but knew we wanted to return to Alaska for retirement. In 2011 we had the opportunity to return to Alaska. We have been waiting for 'just the right place' to become available, for us to start our retirement dream of owning/operating a vacation rental in Alaska. Moose Walk Cabin was exactly what our family was looking for. We absolutely love everything about Alaska. We look forward to making your stay in Alaska, no matter how long, a memorable experience.

Terri Pangborn purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Terri Pangborn chose Fairbanks

We chose this property because of the location and the cabin. We have moose feed all summer in our back yard and yet we are less than five minutes to town. We love the water access at our back door. We are able to canoe and fish any time during the summer. Mother nature turns our water into a hockey rink for winter fun.

What makes this cabin unique

This private waterfront property allows travelers to have all the comforts from home while in Alaska. The tranquility, aurora views from the cabin steps, and wildlife are amazing. The cabin's Alaskan theme and charm makes this home away from home a truly unforgettable place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cabin really is a gem. Stay here--you won't be disappointed. Our family of 5 stayed for 45 days while we searched for a new home. Moose Walk Cabin had everything our family needed. We really enjoyed watching the wildlife through the large picture windows downstairs. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Everything you need to cook (minus food) is in the large kitchen. The wood fired sauna was a great treat to relax in on a cold winter day. A grocery store and the Santa Claus House are only three minutes away in North Pole.

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

I grew up in the Fairbanks area but hadn't been back for a long time. My husband and I came back to relax, see the northern lights and get reacquainted with Alaska. Moose Walk Cabin was the perfect place for us. Our hosts were perfect--always available when we needed them or to answer questions, but never intrusive. The setting was beautiful and the cabin couldn't have been better. It was cozy and comfortable and we lacked for nothing. Whenever I come back to Fairbanks, this is where I'll stay! I would recommend this cabin and its hosts over anything else in the area!!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the Moose Walk Cabin for 6 nights and loved it. We came up to see the Northern Lights and just relax. Terri and Rod were perfect hosts - available to help, but out of sight for most of our stay. They had a fire going to warm up the cabin when we arrived and then came over to make sure we knew where everything was and know if there was anything that they could assist us with.

The downstairs was a large open room with seating area around the wood stove, dining table and kitchen. Nice and roomy for the two of us. Upstairs was one large room with 2 queen beds and a separate bathroom. Again plenty of room for the two of us, or would work for a family with a couple of kids. The cabin was well equipped - plenty of kitchen supplies, including lots of basics (condiments, spices, water, etc.), and lots of firewood (plus kindling) for the wood stove and the outdoor fire pit. They even had things like a tripod we could borrow for taking pictures.

The cabin had a great view of the river - frozen over when we were there. Rod had cleared out an area on the river we could have walked on and warned us not to go further as it was starting to get warmer and not safe. There were chairs and table on the deck plus a fire ring, but with the snow we stayed inside in front of the fire when inside.

We loved it there and would highly recommend the cabin, and our hosts.

Awesome place!

  • 5 of 5

We made a big effort from Malaysia to visit Alaska. I will say that this is by far the cabin made the trip much more memorable. It has everything that you need to make yourself truly at home in a place so far away with its fully equipped kitchen, heater, comfortable couches and beds. We also got cake! Viewing the aurora was truly magical from their property and the location of the cabin is quite convenient for many of the sight seeing activities as compared to staying in the town of Fairbanks. We were given a good briefing of activities to do in the area such as places to eat and visit plus the ones that you want to do such as dog mushing, seeing reindeers and the Chena Hot Springs (a comfortable 1 hour plus drive away from he cabin). I'd highly recommend this for travellers who want to tick off the above activities off their bucket list!

Even more than we had hoped for

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent three nights here on our long dreamed of and awaited winter vacation to see the northern lights. Over the years, we have stayed in many vacation rentals through VRBO, and this is without a doubt, is the cleanest most well equipped of them all. Terri and Rod have only owned this cabin for just over a year and during this time they have worked very hard to update the property in every way. The cabin is quaint and has a true Alaskan feel but with all the modern touches. The furniture is cozy and comfortable, the cabin is warm and inviting and the kitchen is one of the best that we have ever stayed in. I especially loved the new coffee maker and the assortment of chocolate and teas! (and the delicious dessert that was left for us in the refrigerator) Since I often prefer to cook rather that go out, the quality of the kitchen a most important feature to me.

Terri and Rod are warm and friendly people who are well suited to welcoming visitors to this cabin. They go out of their way to extend the best of Fairbanks to their guests. Their goal was to own a VRBO and this property is the realization of that dream.... and we might guess that they may own others in the future...... We would to stay with them anytime without question.

We are actually thinking of returning in the fall to see Alaska without snow. We hope that Rod and Terri will have an opening for us when we come again!

Aurora Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cabin for a couple. We were visiting for our 10 year anniversary and wanted something cute and cozy, and this was it! There were beautiful little touches through out the cabin including Terri's amazing cake and a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. We also had the luxury of having some eggs from the chickens and great caribou sausage. Needless to say we will come back. Hopefully in the summer to enjoy the great weather. Don't forget to say "hi" to BoBo the four legged mascot.

Great place to getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Terri and Rod are great and certainly make this place special. The cabin is charming, clean and well kept. The cabin is also in a great location, close to activities, but still remote enough to get that feel of the Alaska wilderness. On top of that, Terri and Rod went out of their way to make our stay special. Terri showed us her chicken pen and stayed in touch with us the whole time to provide directions and help up with planning activities. Rod is a great guy and spent a lot of time making sure everything was perfect. We will be coming back in the spring!!
