RESTORED 1772 OLD FARMHOUSE WITH PRIVATE POOL

Borgo a Mozzano Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 kitchens , event area, sleeps 12 people

This beautiful old house has been completely renovated with biological materials and is in the middle of a farm that produces organic fruits and vegetables (in another site of our farm we also breed the beautiful Turkmenian Akhal-Tekè Horses).

Around the house is surrounded by woods of chestnut trees from the orchard and herbs that create a magical atmosphere. The house is on three levels consisting of two apartments and a large hall with a professional kitchen for dinners and events.

Is located in the province of Lucca, a few km from the spa of Bagni di Lucca, 40minutes from the ski resorts of the 'Tuscan Apennines and 1 hour from the beaches of Versilia.

The staff is pleased to offer each tenant ( only in the high season) a dinner and a basket with local products.

The house also offers a highly professional service of personal well-being through close collaboration with the Terme of Bagni di Lucca and the possibility of personalized treatments performed by top professionals directly in the structure(osteopathic treatment, ayurvedic massage, etc

Garfagnana area:: Forrest and hills, rivers and lakes, picturesque towns and villages full of old but living tradition – all that the Garfagnana will offer us in abundance. A hideaway for the stressed manager, an adventure for those who seek relaxation and want to discover the natural beauty of this part of the province. Here you will find another kind of tourism; not just nature has remained genuine but also the people who live here. Traditions are kept alive, the charm lies more in the simple things of life. The nature is breathtakingly beautiful, luxuriant and never ending in its variety. Extended walks, mountain bike tours and horseback tracking are probably the best known activities. The menu is highly dictated by the seasons, chestnut flower and all its products, but spelt is used as well. Meat comes from local and natural farms. Fish is taken from the many lakes and rivers. The rich forests offer deer and mushrooms. Most famous dishes are “Castagnaccio”, a kind of polenta made of chestnut flower.

... and “Minestrone di Farro” which is a soup made of spelt. Known world wide is the quality of the Garfagnana ceps (funghi porcini) growing on the hilly forests slopes in September and October, with the manifold options and recipes to prepare them. A great part of the Garfagnana is a natural reserve, there is almost no industry and life seems to stand still. Who is mentally in a hurry will probably never find his way to this small “paradise”. In the middle ages, however, the transit routes from Northern Italy to the South came through the Garfagnana and the Serchio valley; as the coast roads were full of malaria they preferred this certainly more tiring but safer way. For our days this route is somewhat too slow. The geological structure of the area has prevented from building fast roads, traffic flows rather slowly and calmly. Distances are short in our modern terms, but many hills have to be crossed. Rivers curve through valleys and we have to follow their bends.

About Corsagna:: The village is located about 400 meters above sea level north-west slopes of the plateau Pizzorne. With its 704 inhabitants is one of the most populated villages of the municipality of Borgo a Mozzano. The earliest historical record dates back to 768; dominate the first Suffredinghi and later the Republic of Lucca. The country was well known for its factories iron. The courts are a typical feature original of this country and are an expression of urban households most important. The place called 'Castle' is dominated by an imposing tower, bell tower today, and a vast square that dominates the Middle Serchio Valley, where there are two ambassadors and the parish church dedicated to San Michele (1506). L 'three-nave interior has stone columns with capitals originating in one door' s arms in the country (a snake that wraps itself in a column) and the Republic of Lucca. There are notable paintings (the Circumcision of Alessandro Frediani, seventeenth century, a San Michele School of Perugia...

An Authentic Taste of Tuscany

  • 5 of 5
The property is accurately represented and pictured and the house and grounds were spotless. Apple, peach, pear, olive, grapes, and roses are in profusion. Great care has been taken in the restoration of this home and we appreciated the craftsmanship, especially the stone and wood work.
We could not have asked for more from the host, Daniele. He is sincere, knowledgeable, and warm and his assistance to us extended beyond what you would expect from a host.
The village of Corsagna is a delight. The piazza, church, architecture, and the Bar Braduzzi are quintessential Tuscany. We found the people warm and helpful even though our Italian is spotty. (If language is an issue for you, ask to speak to Gabriella. She lives on the piazza and is a delight).
Some might find the drive up from Borgo to be a negative, but just take your time and pay attention. After a few trips you will become comfortable.
This location was perfect for what we wanted to accomplish. We had easy day trips to Florence, Lucca, Volterra, Pisa, Castelnuovo de Garfagnana, Barga, Carrara, and Cinque Terra and it was nice to "take a day off" and stay by the pool.
Borgo a Mozzano is 12 minutes away at the bottom of the hill. They have a wonderful grocery store and Macelli's became one of our favorite places for dinner. There is also wonderful dining at Bagni di Luca which is another 10 minutes away.
If you are looking for a fast paced "American style" vacation this might not be the place for you. However, if you want to slow yourself to the Tuscany pace, experience a truly unique part of the world, and get to know warm, genuine people you will love this property. We have recommended this to your friends and we hope to return in a few years.

Perfect family vacation home.

  • 5 of 5
We just had the most perfect family vacation at the farmhouse. There were seven of us, and the house is set up so that we all had privacy along with our family time. My two grandsons, ages 3 and 1, loved every minute as we explored the property and the surrounding villages. Our daughter and her husband enjoyed their date nights with the excellent food found locally. We stayed for one month and it was not enough, as a more beautiful place could not exist. It is a bit remote, but once we settled in and became accustomed to the winding roads it did not seem too far out. A car is absolutely necessary, preferably one that can navigate narrow streets as you must drive through the village below to get to the farmhouse. The accommodations were comfortable, and really everything we needed was already at the house or easy to find when we did our daily grocery shopping. The host, Daniele and his family were gracious and provided help, advice and two delicious meals. We will miss him as much as we miss Italy.

A wonderful family holiday in stunning location.

  • 5 of 5
We spent a most enjoyable two weeks in this beautiful property with my son, daughter, their spouses and our four grandchildren and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is looking for a similar type of family holiday in the rural area of Tuscany. Lovingly restored with lots of evidence of family history, the house very soon felt like home to us all and we were sad to leave. The drive up the windy, windy road to the farmhouse starts out as a bit of a challenge but becomes less foreboding with practice and the rewards far outweigh the effort!
We visited Lucca several times and the children rode around the city walls on bikes. We had some wonderful meals in Bagni di Lucca, visited the market in Garfagnana and the awe-inspiring Grotta del Vento. The Ristorante Pizzeria Branduzzi Giulio in the local village is an absolute 'must' - we had three fabulous meals there and could not have received more or better attention and welcome. Would also recommend the climb up the 'high' street to the village church and the walk in the hills behind the house to discover the source of the sound of the running water!
We were warmly welcomed by Daniele, the owner, who went out of his way to drive out to Lucca to meet us and lead us back to the farmhouse and was there to answer all our queries and questions on settling in. Divided into three apartments, ideally suited to sleep different factions of a family or groups of close friends, the house was beautifully equipped with everything as described on the website - but don't look for a conventional 'English' type toaster - the one provided is far more suitable for the local bread :-)
I very much hope that we will be going back to La Casa di Nonno Mario very soon.

One Amazing Vacation

  • 5 of 5
The house was located on a hillside by a winding mountain road. A private, perfect family location. We spent the week with the grandparents and the children. Stunning views from the bedroom windows on every floor and an incredible amount of space for the entire family. The house looks on rolling hills and the village of Corsagna. Free fruit from the many trees and bushes around the property. Everything was in perfect working condition and even with the windows open all day the rooms were pleasantly cool. The pool was incredibly easy to maintain, only needing a quick clean to fish out the stray leaves before jumping in. The kids absolutely loved it as they explored the entire house. The wooden beams give the house a classical feel. We were treated to a dinner at the house to taste the local cuisine. It was an absolutely wonderful evening. We visited Siena, Lucca, Borgo a Mozzano and Corsagna. Everything was so close by. The village of Corsagna was full of life and character, we enjoyed a village party on our last day. Everyone was extremely friendly. It was an amazing experience that the entire family loved, we hope to be going back soon! We would definitely recommend this house for anyone who wants to have the real Italian experience.

A beautiful, comfortable house with a great view

  • 4 of 5
We stayed in this beautifully renovated place during our spring holiday with a company of two families with a total of 6 children under the age of 10. Due to the structure of the house, both families had their own appartment, but there was still enough room to sit together if we wished, like in the big dining room and in the outside space, which is ideal for two families of friends. We loved the atmosphere of the house, which is furnished in a more Northern European style than most of the other Italian rental houses - it made us feel at home. We especially loved the nice and spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. Other great things about the house are the splendid view of the surroundings, and the nice outdoor space like the orchard surrounding the house, the pool and the big terrace in front of the house. Like many Northern European guests, we love to eat outside in the garden as soon as there is a little sun, so our recommendation to the owner would be to make a paved terrace in front of the house with a large table for big companies to use. But the pool terrace table served us well too. We regulary made use of the inside fire place as well as the outside fireplace, and made several walks in the woods at the back of the house with our children, and enjoyed trips to Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio - places that can all be easily reached in the driving time as indicated on the website. It takes some circling up to the mountainside to reach the house from the village (10 minutes or so), but the view is certainly worth driving these curves. And it did not stop us from getting fresh rolls and groceries in the village's nice little bakery and grocer every other day. The big groceries we got at the Penny Market in the village a little bit further down the hillside, at a 15 minutes driving distance. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and cooked our company of 10 a really nice Italian dinner together with his friend in the big dining room of the house one evening for a very friendly price - we would recommend making use of this option! The property was clean, and well maintained, well equipped, and the owner's customer service was outstanding - we left a pair of glasses at the house, which he instantly shipped to us free of charge. We would certainly reccomend this house to friends and relatives, as it is a unique, comfortable place in a beautiful, rural part of Italy, with an owner who's pleasure it is to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.

First visit in Tuscany

  • 4 of 5
We wanted to find a house in Tuscany which suited our family. We wanted to find good quality and lovely views.

This house makes it possible to live under the same roof but still live separately.

If I had the money and the ideas myself I would have decorated the house exactly the same way - I felt at home from the first second.

The house is located quite undisturbed and to get to the house, you must drive through a small town, where you quickly feel welcome with smiles and greetings.

In the same city there is a very small supermarket with a large selection. In Borgo a Mozzano there are several shops, including a Penny Supermarket which has a great selection and a special section with super quality food.

Geographically, the house is situated 30 minutes drive from Lucca and 60 minutes drive from Florence.

Our family would like to recommend this house to others who want to live amidst nature in Tuscany.

The only negative we could find is that peace is often disturbed to barking dogs, but it's not the house's fault.

We will do everything to come back perhaps as early as next season.
