If you are looking for a place to unwind and get away from it all, while having the option of all the amenities from home, this is the place for you!
Our spacious ocean view villa on the beach is located in a quiet complex with all of the conveniences of home. Not only is there 1,650 square feet of indoor living space, but perhaps the best feature is 600 square feet of outdoor living space. When you are not on the beach or at poolside, you can enjoy the Caribbean breeze from your spacious, private veranda.
You will be more than comfortable in our beautiful condo with features such as stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and an ensuite bath off the master bedroom with corner tub. This unit is suited for a couple, two couples, or a family.
Los Porticos is ideally located with easy access to nearby Placencia village but far enough away to be peaceful. The complex has beautiful grounds, a magnificent pool and has the beach along Placencia Peninsula. Housekeeping and management services are included in the rental rate.
Placencia village has numerous grocery stores with excellent selection if you choose to prepare some of your own meals in our well equipped kitchen. There are also numerous dining choices at reasonable prices and bars for some fun. You will find your favourites – we sure did!
If you get tired of relaxing, there are many interesting activities to do. A dive shop is a five-minute walk away. If you are not a scuba diver, we recommend a snorkeling day trip, visiting the Howler monkeys in Monkey River, or renting a golf cart to explore Placencia Peninsula. There is also fishing, a day trip to visit Mayan ruins, cave tubing, a visit to Jaguar Reserve, or a visit to the Sittee River. You will not be bored!
We are Canadians from the Prairies who enjoy our winter getaway spot so much that we decided to come back year after year.
Los Porticos Villas purchased this condo in 2012
We have travelled in the Caribbean, Mexico and South Pacific and kept coming back to Belize. We enjoy the less commercialized nature, friendly people, and small town feel of Placencia.
Our villa is located on the second level and has amazing views of the beach and pool with beautiful Caribbean breezes.
We had a seven-night stay in this condo in early February 2015. The pictures only hint at the luxury and spaciousness! The condo was immaculate and every appliance and amenity was top-notch. Comfortable beds, lots of closets, luxurious bathrooms, good quality towels. The wifi in the condo worked well, and there is also wifi at the pool. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans, and dishware, and the icemaker on the fridge was an added bonus.
The grounds of Los Porticos are beautiful, with a wide variety of flowering plants and gorgeous trees. There is a large pool with comfortable lounge chairs and a pool bar, and more loungers on the beach. Beware that the sandflies can come out at dusk so make sure to bring some bug spray.
We were glad to be on the second floor; although the weather was hot, we didn't bother with the air conditioning as we were able to create a great cross-breeze by opening the doors and using the ceiling fans. The large shady balcony is a great place to enjoy the view and the sound of the ocean waves.
The complex itself is very quiet, and there are nice restaurants (Turtle Inn and Mariposa) within a two-minute walk. It is easy to buy groceries at one of the stores in town, and we got fruit and vegetables at the local stands. Placencia has many excellent, reasonably-priced restaurants. Try Dawn's Grill! The local people and other tourists were friendly and we felt safe wandering all over town. We really enjoyed not being harassed by endless vendors, timeshare salespeople, etc!
If you are flying to Placencia, I would recommend using the Los Porticos office to book your Tropic Air flight from Belize City. We were picked up promptly upon our arrival at the tiny airport. Barry (property manager) and his staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Barry also has a nice selection of wines for sale in the office! We booked a couple of tours through the office, and also rented a golf cart for the day, which was a lot of fun. It is a safe and easy one-mile walk to town, but bikes are also a great option for getting around, and a cab ride to Placencia is only $5.
With its beautiful secluded beachfront and its proximity to town, Los Porticos is the best of both worlds for tourists to Placencia. We look forward to returning to Los Porticos someday!
We spent 8 nights at Los Porticos Villas. What a great vacation! The balcony has an awesome view of the ocean and the pool and is a great place to sit with coffee or a drink and enjoy the breeze and watch the sunrise. The landscaping is beautiful and the whole complex is very quiet. Each morning we enjoyed watching all the different birds that visit the area. The pool is just the right temperature and it was fun to enjoy happy hour at the pool bar. The interior of the condo is spacious and well-equipped with washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat-screen TV, ceiling fans, comfortable beds and air-conditioning which we only needed to use a few humid nights. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals. Light housekeeping was provided daily.
The town of Placencia is only a 5 minute taxi ride (about $10 USD roundtrip) away with a modern supermarket and lots of restaurants and bars. We stocked the fridge with Belikin beer, breakfast supplies and various cold drinks to enjoy during the day. We ate at restaurants in town almost every evening – favorites include Barefoot Bar, Omar’s, Det’hach, Wendy’s and Rumfish. We also walked over to the Turtle Inn next door and tried their pool/oceanview restaurant. The property management staff was very helpful and we booked several tours through the office – we did a full day of birding, a half-day of snorkeling and a trip to Monkey River. The opportunities for viewing birds are incredible – we really enjoyed seeing the Scarlet Macaws. We had access to two bikes which we used to go into town during the day – don’t forget to reward yourself with gelato from Tutti Frutti. We did not need to rent a vehicle. We also spent time walking on the beach - very relaxing. We did not have time to visit any of the many Mayan ruin sites but that is on my list for next time.
We used Tropic Air for the flights from Belize City to Placencia. The arrangements were handled by the property management office and we were picked up by taxi for the short 5 minute trip to Los Porticos. We used a direct United flight from Newark to Belize City – this is a good choice for visitors from eastern Canada, particularly the Ottawa area as there is a direct flight from Ottawa to Newark.
This would be a great choice of accommodation in Placencia for a couple, two couples, a group of friends or a family. Can't wait to go back!
