A custom redwood home inside and out on two acres of land just 4 miles from Sequoia National Park. The property is fully developed and maintained as a garden with it's own private riverside beach. Many trees provide a shaded park like setting. A year-round regulated water flow provides a steady flow of water right next to the house. The Middle Fork of the Kaweah River, visible from the house, flows through the property just 100 yards from the house. The river normally runs quite swift during the spring runoff from April through June dependent on Sierra winter snow but becomes quite nice for swimming later in the summer when water temperatures rise into the mid-high 70's. Optimum for 4 people with 6 people maximum. Wir sprechen auch Deutsch.
We are closed during 2014-2015 winter season. Please inquire about 2015 bookings commencing in April. New lower rate schedule for 2015 makes a 2 person vacation stay especially economical.
I am the grandson of the original property owner. My grandmother purchased the property and the garden was developed many years before the house was added. The garden is much the same as it was in the 50's except those little trees are now quite large. I am a kayaker on the Kaweah River since 1985 and author of The Kaweah River Page on the internet.
Bill Pooley purchased this villa in 1950
This property has been in our family since 1950. The home was built in 1965 and is custom throughout. The architect was Robert F. Street of Aberdeen, WA. The property and home are a family treasure. The love of the fabulous Kaweah River can not be understated.
Home constructed of clear redwood inside and out located on a quiet private drive. A unique year round water flow is immediately adjacent the house with significant flow during spring and summer. Numerous decks on all sides. The property has a well maintained garden with walking paths throughout. The sound of tumbling water is audible from inside the house. Quantities of sand in the garden lead to a large sandy beach area on the bank of the river. The property is considered by many as the premier riverfront property in all of the Three Rivers community.
We had a wonderful time here! This was a last minute trip for us and it was the best decision we made. The house was very comfortable and we felt completely at home here. Be sure to walk down a couple hundred yards to a sandy beach and a great swimming hole. Our kids played for hours there! We will definitely be back!! Justin and family San Diego, CA.
My family's trip to the Sequoias was made even more amazing by the location where we stayed. The grounds of this lovely home are beautiful. Obviously the owners put a lot of hard work and care into keeping them looking so magnificent. The location of the creek and river being right in the backyard was great! We all enjoyed rock hopping up and down the river, swimming in the swimming holes, and even a little tubing! That was the highlight for our boys. The proximity to the park was perfect, and we enjoyed a day of seeing many beautiful sites. Our boys did, however, want to make sure we'd return to the home that day with enough time to go in the river again! Thank you again for the wonderful memories!
My husband, three-year-old and I stayed at Kaweah Redwood Villa this past Labor Day holiday -- what a trip! It was gorgeous. The pictures do not do this place justice. This is the kind of place you want to stay at if you have young children who are looking for the magic of the wilderness, or if you are looking for a romantic getaway. It was lovely.
We were there for three nights, which was a good amount of time to allow us to get up to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon, leaving some additional time to explore Reimers, the delicious candy and ice cream shop, and We Three Bakery, the delicious breakfast joint, down the way. We packed lunches for our excursions, and ate our dinners at home because we did not want to leave the comfort and beauty of the property. At night we walked down to the waterfront (personal property belonging to the Villa) to gaze at stars and enjoy each other's company.
The villa is fully-equipped, impeccably maintained, and the owners are just lovely people, who stopped by after we arrived to meet us and to explain the ins and outs of the property. I believe that this property is one of only a few that is located on top of the Kaweah River. The location is unbeatable, and the architecture divine.
I should also mention that I was 7 months pregnant during this little getaway, and was very comfortable despite it being a warm time of year. Great cooling system. Would love to come back during different seasons as well.
We've rented quite a few vacation homes over the years, and often find that after a lengthy selection process, we actually end up spending relatively little time there, and the carefully chosen amenities go largely unused. Kaweah Redwood Villa and Gardens changed all that and could easily be considered a vacation destination unto itself. After exploring the lovely comfortable home and the beautiful grounds, we looked at each other as if to say "National Park? What National Park?" At times we felt as if we were on our own little island, one that we could not wait to return to at the end of the day.
We actually did get around to visiting Kings Canyon and Sequoia, but we were as anxious to get back to the Villa and relax at the end of the day. I only wish our stay could have been longer, and the river running a bit deeper but that's life.
Time spent out on the upper deck and the river deck can only be described as therapy. In one short spell we spotted the resident hawk, several buzzards, hummingbirds, a heron and some woodpeckers (which we shooed away).
Inside, the home is equipped to the max. Everything you could possibly need is there for you. The kitchen with its new appliances and stocked cabinets was a delight to cook in. There are plenty of thick plush towels everywhere, the beds and bedsheets are high quality and very comfortable. Drifting off to sleep with the stream rambling past our window was ethereal. With the large windows and natural accents everywhere, the house reminded me of a Frank Lloyd Wright design. To top it off, a welcoming greeting card, and a personal visit from Bill and Ingrid to show us around and explain the history of the house, just added to the charm. The only downside is having only one bath, but this is typical of houses built in that time period, when people lived more simply. (we know, we live in one)
For those of us who have rented "investment" type vacation homes, with old and well worn furniture and a hodgepodge collection of kitchen utensils and beat up pots and pans, Kaweah Villa is a refreshing experience. A lovely, well appointed home in the midst of a beautiful garden, cared for by a couple who clearly love the place. Thank you for sharing this special place with us.
We highly recommend this lovely vacation. The accomodations are just great: well equipped kitchen, high thread count sheets (!) , AC in the heat, decks, and lots of sitting areas in and out. I particularly loved the park-like landscaping with diverse trees and plants. When we were there, the once-a-century Century plant was in bloom, what a treat. Sequoia Natl Forest is accessible for day trips. The swimming hole right down the way from the house was a 3-times a day glorious dip. Bill and Ingrid were delightful. Can't recommend their place enough.
We stayed here over the long Memorial Day weekend. The house is charming and well appointed. The kitchen is equipped with most everything one would need. The beds were comfortable, especially the king size bed in the master bedroom. Very good quality linens are provided. The den makes a comfortable semi-private 3rd bedroom with a futon.
Most enjoyable is the deck where you can enjoy breakfast overlooking the water and the gardens and the property itself. All the mandering paths and bridges leading to the river were beautifully laid out. It felt like paradise. We spent one day exploring Sequoia and another day simply relaxing and enjoying the house and the property, mostly sitting on the small deck by the river enjoying the sunshine.
Sierra's subs in town is a must for lunch. We brought a picnic into Sequoia with sandwiches from Sierra's and they were amazing.
There is a small private beach 1/4 mile up the road from the house which provides access if you want to swim in the river ( it was a bit too swift to swim in the river accessed from the house). Unfortunately, due to abuse, it is closed weekends and holidays so was closed the entirety of our stay. We did visit it anyway, but were thrown out, quite politely, within about 30 minutes by a volunteer sheriff.
Overall it was a relaxing and wonderful mini-vacation. We were sad to leave.
I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay at, on our first of many trips to come to the Sequoias. Despite we weren't able to enjoy all that the national park had to offer, due to weather, this cozy villa made up for it. It truly did. It's a happy medium. Not too big and modern yet updated with new appliances without losing it's cabin charm. Don't let the futon on the den fool you. It's quite comfy. It has both heating and ac systems and a gas fire place. The location is spot on what we were looking for. Close to the park and conveniences (restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, gift shops, etc.), yet private enough to stay away from the touring traffic. But what really makes this place is the gardens and it's clean and interesting paths towards the Kaweah River. We were able to enjoy the view of the gardens, from the living room and dining room, through its large windows. Open the door and/ or windows and you can hear the tranquil river running. We chose to enjoy our homeade meals out in the upper deck. It's so easy to forget about civilization, however, if it's a must with your lifestyle, it has Wi-Fi throughout the house and a TV with both DVD and VHS players. If weather permits, there are "beaches" up the road to enjoy bathing in the river better. We're definitely coming back! Cant's wait!
Four miles from the southern entrance to Sequoia National Park. World's largest tree is just a one hour drive. This is an incredible Sierra Nevada foothills location with rugged mountains rising in all directions.
