Courchevel 1650: Courchevel 1650 is based on the original village of Moriond. Beside Chalet La Tarentaise the original village street with its small church, village pumps and many original houses stretches down the hill. The views of the St Bon Valley are wonderful, On the main road are a selection of bars, internet cafes, shops, a pharmacy, bakery, traiteur, 3 excellent supermarkets, gift shops, creperie, cinema and numerous ski shops and ATMs. There are two hotels, the Golf and the Manali with spas. There is a weekly street market where you can buy local cheeses, meats and wines.

Sounds too busy - not at all. It is small and considerably less pretentious and quieter compared to its large and glamorous neighbour Courchevel 1850 but with the advantage of a 7 minute free bus ride (at 10 minute intervals) to join in the larger social life in 1850 and indulge in a bit of celebrity spotting or at least admire the fur coats. Free buses also run to Courchevel 1550, La Praz and La Tania.

Three Valleys ski area: Les Trois Vallées or The Three Valleys is the largest ski area in the world which is connected solely by ski lifts and slopes. It has more than 600 km (410 miles) of ski slopes, resulting in 18.5 km² of groomed runs. In addition, there are 120 km for cross-country skiing. Overall in the three valleys there are 335 runs ranging from beginners to really difficult and some beautiful off piste areas.

The three valleys are:

the Saint Bon with the resorts of Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel- La Praz and La Tania

the Allues with the resorts of Meribel-Village, Meribel and Meribel-Mottaret

the Belleville with the resorts of Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St Martin-de-Belleville

In addition it is possible to access the resort of Orelle in the Maurienne Valley from Val Thorens.

Courchevel ski Resorts: The greater Courchevel resort area has 150 kilometres of downhill pistes served by 62 chairlifts. It has wonderful areas for beginners with broad well-groomed slopes and 27 greens to practice on and as you progress 44 blue runs. It is equally challenging for the more experienced skiers with 38 red runs and 10 black runs. Its couloirs are are renowned as some of the most difficult black runs in the world. In 1650, itself, the access to the ski slopes is in the centre of the village next to the Tourist Information Office. The slopes in 1650 are slightly quieter than most of the Three valleys - the beginner slopes both greens and blues are wide and friendly. Its a lovely run back at the ned of the day. The reds are challenging. Access to the Meribel valley or Courchevel 1850 and the rest of the Courchevel ski resort is fast with two crossover points from the 1650 area. For younger members of the family – the Indiennes piste has with information on Native Americans and a tipi village.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This chalet certainly ticks all the boxes for a great skiing holiday. The chalet is located on the main road up to Courchevel right next to all the action and most importantly the escalator that takes you up to the bubble. The bus stop for the other resorts higher/lower is right on the doorstep. This chalet is privately owned and it is clear that it is very much loved by the owners. The finishings are luxurious, each room is en-suite, and bathrobes are provided which is a lovely touch. Each bathroom has a lovely full sized bath, with the main bedroom a fantastic walk in shower. The beds are very comfortable with lovely linens. The rooms were spotless and lovely and warm. We stayed in the master bedroom which has awesome views over the bozel valley. There was lots of room for hanging clothes, and drawers to put bits in. The boot room downstairs is big, and ample space for say 6 putting on their boots in the morning all at the same time, with boot warmers overnight and a ski racks. There is a steam room but we were much too busy enjoying the bars after skiing to use it!

The chalet hosts Helen and Neil were excellent. The food is charged at cost - and you can choose from a small wine list all at cost . Also beer and soft drinks are kept on the balcony and you can take what you need and then at the end of the week the sum owed is set against the security deposit you pay. I was amazed that with 9 of us we spent about 85 euros each for all 3 course dinners (we chose 5 nights), and drinks. Unbelievable good value. What I loved about this chalet is the flexibility, it really is up to you how many nights you eat in or out.

The living area is really well laid out for large groups, a huge horseshoe shaped settee opposite the lovely roaring fire, and the dinner table along the main window that looks down the valley.

Breakfast is included in the rental price, and was plentiful. Tea and coffee is available if you want it, and there is a TV room, I guess it would be good if you have children in the group..Wifi was provided too and was very good.

I cannot find any fault with this chalet at all, it was top notch. The booking process was very easy - - totally bona fides. In fact it would have been lovely to meet them and Noelle who handled the process so efficiently and had to put up with my endless emails and questions - thanks Noelle for your patience! If we go in a group again we would certainly rent this chalet again. In fact I'd really prefer to keep it a secret!

Sensational Holiday, Stunning Location

  • 5 of 5

We have skied for many years but never have we enjoyed such a fabulous chalet and location.

Right in the centre of 1650 with everything for our 20+ year old kids to do, a short escalator ride up to the ski slopes (a 50yd walk then stand on the moving stairs). What more could one ask for?

Well there was plenty more in this very magnificent chalet, beautiful bedrooms, spacious and well appointed. Lovely ensuites. Superb lounge with long dining table for 12 and a separate TV room.

Jules who looked after the chalet made sure it was immaculate and was a supreme hostess. The food was fantastic too.

We plan to go again (and again) and can highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going apart from during the weeks we want it!

A Beautiful Luxury Chalet in a Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

This chalet is simply stunning, on every level. We have stayed in a number of chalets in Les Trois Vallees and this one is by far and away everyone's favourite!

The combination of a chalet of this standard with such a location is unusual. You just walk across the small road and you're at the ski lifts.

In most chalets, you're either near the lifts or the town - with this chalet, you get both.

After a day's hard skiing, its great to find the shops, bars and restaurants are just steps away. And we could safely let our older children wander by themselves, since we knew they were never too far away. And 1650 itself has a particular charm and ambience that we found very relaxing.

But its the chalet itself that will bring us back. Theres a level of comfort and quiet luxury that is very appealing. Everything has been thought of - from the relaxing steam room to the super bootroom, from really comfortable beds to luxury bathrooms. And there was plenty of room for us all to sit around the fire in the evening - until we got tired of the teenagers or they got tired of us and headed off to the tv room for their own time and space!

The food and service were superb and we all looked forward to dinner after a hard day on the slopes. Bedrooms were immaculately maintained and a real haven.

I loved the home decor - the beautiful fabrics, the restful colour schemes and the use of wood throughout. The mountain motifs are there but not in a kitschy way. And the chalet is wonderfully designed to take advantage of those beautiful mountain views - we all loved the fact that our bedrooms all had access to a balcony or terrace.

The information supplied was very useful and we certainly feel we have found our own special spot on the slopes - we wish it was ours!

We know exactly where we will be heading next season and hopefully for many seasons to come!
