Skiing: The Schillerhof is ideally located for skiing: The Graukogel chairlift and ski area is situated directly behind the building, just across the road. More extensive skiing at Stubnerkogel is a 3-minute bus or car ride away (bus stop next to the Schillerhof). Access to Sportgastein and other resorts in the Ski Amade area is by bus or car. The Schillerhof has a heated ski and boot room, but skis and boots can also be left at the ski rental shop directly under the Stubnerkogel lift if preferred.

Access to centre of town and shops: A steep footpath leads down to the town centre (maximum 7 minutes walk downhill - a little longer uphill!) where you can sample the restaurants, bars, tea rooms and browse the shops. For grocery shopping, a car is useful, or you can take the 3-minute bus ride to the Spar supermarket. More extensive shopping and further restaurants, bars and cafes are found in the village below Bad Gastein - Bad Hofgastein. This can be reached by bus or car.

Swimming and spa: The Schillerhof has its own luxurious heated swimming pool and spa facilties, including jacuzzis, sauna and steam showers, and the possibility of booking a massage. In summer, the glass doors of the swimming pool can be opened up to give access to the stunning panoramic balcony and sun lawn where sun beds are provided. There is a beautiful open-air swimming pool with 2 slides at Dorfgastein (about 10km down the valley) and both the thermal spas at Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein provide several lovely swimming pools, also with slides (there is even a pool cinema in the Bad Hofgastein spa!) There is also a beautiful swimming lake next to the golf course of Bad Gastein.
