Explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and experience the Aloha of Hawaii Island while staying at this gorgeous, hand crafted home near Volcano Golf Course & Country Club. Nestled amongst the native Koa and Ohia Lehua Trees with a sweeping view of Mauna Loa and a steady serenade from the numerous native birds, this Hawaiian retreat will envelope you with a complete sense of peace and relaxation. Hale Ka Lehua was designed by owners John & Mindi Clark and personally built by John which shows in every well thought out detail.
The extensive use of glass gives one the feeling of being outside while within the warm comfort of indoors...perhaps snuggled next to the wood burning fireplace.
This 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath retreat has a completely private master bedroom located outside of the main home off of the front lanai. This sweet room has a full sized memory foam bed with a native garden view, 1/2 bath, night stand, reading lights over the bed and a small space heater for extra chilly winter nights.
The main floor bedroom has a queen memory foam bed, a small desk and closet and is located across the hall from the full bath (both Tub & shower).

The kitchen boasts gorgeous 'Flower Garden' granite, gas stove and oven and is completely stocked with Le Creuset cookware, small appliances and Riedel wine glasses.
French doors spill out from the solid ohia wood floored living & dining room onto the wrap around lanai that has outside dining and gas BBQ grill as well.
We invite you to come enjoy the beauty and quietude of this beautiful brand new home while exploring the amazing dynamics of Kilauea, the world's most active volcano located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The 'Dry side' of Volcano keeps you out out of what can be a constant drizzle & fog that shrouds the eastern flank. The golf course area is located just beyond the crest of 4,000' and dips you into the Kau side of Volcano where the temps will still range from the 40's to the mid 70's but with far more sun! We are 3 miles past the entrance to the park, but you can walk to the edge of the caldera from our home in just 20 minutes...a perfect place to sip a glass of wine while soaking in the view of Halema'uma'u and getting a glimpse of the powers of Madame Pele.
Both the Volcano Golf Course and Volcano Winery are within a few minutes walk from the house.
We moved to the Hawaiian village of Kalapana located on the SE corner of the Big Island in 1981 to escape the freeways of So. California. We were blessed to live, surf and paddle canoe here for 8 years before Madame Pele covered this community with lava in the late 80's & early 90's. We lost our home to the lava but our orchid farm,'Kalapana Tropicals' that we started in 1987 remains in tact and is now just one of 2 orchid nurseries that we own and operate...the other being in Kurtistown where we have lived since 1990. Free orchid farm tours for our guests!
Mindi Clark purchased this cabin in 2009
We love the Volcano area for it's cool weather, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and hiking and cycling opportunities. It's a quick get-a-way for us as it is only 20 minutes from our home in Kurtistown and we feel like we are in another world!
We selected this property because it is located on the 'dry side' of Volcano, it's bounty of native Koa and Ohia trees that are filled with birds. John took great care in removing only enough trees to build and the home is designed with a bedroom off the lanai to save trees and give this home a tree house feel.
Didn't get a chance to post my review sooner. We stayed here for a day mid Feb 2015. Wish we had planned to stay for an additional day. We stayed in multiple places in Big Island and Kauai and the kids loved this place the best. The house is lovely, well maintained and very clean. Very close to HVNP. After we reached the house late in the evening we stepped out to see the KIlauea Calderon at night. Ir was a treat to sleep in the upstairs room watching all the stars. Mindi was very accommodating and communicated promptly. Highly recommend this house.
My husband and I love this place. It is beautiful, quiet, peaceful, heavenly, all the things we were looking for in a quick getaway. The house is gorgeous and well prepared with anything you could possibly need. It's close to the park and not too far from Hilo; this place has it all. The owners are also great, they were easy to contact and extremely accommodating. We definitely hope to return for more visits.
Beautifully done especially the woodwork top to bottom. Close to the park. We found everything we needed to do our own cooking. The hot tub added a nice touch to evening conversations.
This place is perfect in every way for experiencing the park. It's convenient to the park entrance and a great value, and the house itself is wonderful. It's cozy (in the fun sense, not the real estate agent euphemism for tiny sense) and nicely furnished, with beautiful grounds out back and a hot tub from which to look at it all. We stayed at the house with our 10 year old son, who loved the privacy of the loft. You really can't do better than this.
Warm and inviting, Hale Ka Lehua is unique in every way and made us feel right at home. Beautiful wood and stone work on the exterior! French doors open up onto a gorgeous wraparound porch, perfect for breakfast in the morning! The bed was beyond comfortable and the sheets were so soft! Gorgeous view of the mountain in the upstairs bedroom! We were sure to warm the chilly Volcano night with a fire in the wood burner. Just a few minute walk down to the winery as well! Thank you Mindi for lending us your home for the night, it made our anniversary much sweeter!
Hale Ka Lehua is my favorite place to stay while visiting the volcano...... this was my 3rd time staying at this house with my extended family (6 of us), and every trip has been wonderful. The house has everything you could ask for and much more! It is very comfortable, quiet, private, relaxing and close enough to the caldera to go for a quick trip to the overlook to see the red glow at night. The new outdoor jacuzzi is amazing! We also enjoyed a movie one night on Netflix. We had a ball and would recommend this home to couples & families. Thank you so much Mindi, i can't say enough about your home, it is beautiful and we will be back!
We are 3 miles past the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, just past the Volcano Golf Course which is located on Pi'imauna Drive (1st Right past the 4,000 elevation marker on Highway 11). We are a 20 minute walk to the edge of Kilauea Caldera (from the house),10 minute walk to the golf course & a 5 minute walk to the winery. Lots of hiking trails, cycling, exploring the National Park and lava viewing.
You may also park at the entrance of our subdivision at the corner of Pi'imauna and the highway and access the park or the shopping facilities within the Kilauea Military camp. From here the walk to the caldera is less than 10 minutes. Access the hiking trails across from the flag pole at Kilauea Military Camp ...aka KMC.
We have 2 bikes for your enjoyment as well.
