I welcome you to stay in this river stone country house set on 40 private acres of woodlands, streams, and old blue stone quarries.
In less than five minutes, you can enter the Woodstock experience – boutiques, live music, cafes, bookstores, fine dining, retro & antique shops, and art galleries ... or be swimming in Big Deep, basking in the sun at Woodstock’s natural swimming hole. In less than 45 minutes, you can be skiing down some of New York's finest skiing mountains.
This three-story Arts & Crafts home easily accommodates eight adults. Four bedrooms, each with its own individual flare, allow for privacy and romance. One with a private library and writing desk; one with a screened porch; one with grand, arched ceilings; and one with a cozy, dreamy treehouse view of the private forest. Cotton bedding, down comforters, and superior pillows create a perfect ending to any day.
A newly renovated Italian and Mexican tiled bathroom fulfills the needs of those who prefer showers, while a bathroom with a claw foot tub provides a tranquil retreat amongst the treetops of maples, pines, and oaks of the woodlands.
A state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen filled with all the modern accoutrements blends old world with new: marble and butcher block countertops, stainless steel appliances, and place settings for twelve. A dining room, complete with wine, beer, champagne and martini glasses, serving ware, and cloth napkins welcomes all to a long, Arts & Crafts table placed under original, open wood beams.
With a stone fireplace, library, and separate eating area, the large living room draws you into its warmth and hominess. Large windows overlook a landscaped, fenced-in yard – a perfect romp for dogs and children – and a backyard view of a new orchard and traditional bluestone patio.
The walls are decorated with original art and reproductions reminiscent of those artists whose lives were shaped here – water, woodlands, boats, and still-lifes.
Grill steaks, chicken, brats, or veggies on the charcoal and gas grills and serve the succulent food al fresco on a blue stone slab table under towering pines. Roast marshmallows on the fire pit. Sneak a bit of mountain sun on our chaise lounges. Play a round of croquet or volleyball in the green lawns. Build snowmen in the yard. Make snow angels under a velvet mountain sky. Snowshoe through our forest preserve.
For those who must be tied, even on vacation, to the office, there is high-speed internet, a printer, WiFi, and unlimited local and long distance phone calls (U.S. and Canada). High-def television, with TiVo, premium channels, and Netflix.
I am the proud human of two dogs that love to travel with me and I welcome you to bring your well-trained canine family members too! A 2.5-acre fenced in area around the house provides Fido and Trudy ample room to run, sniff, chase squirrels, and lounge in the sun and snow!
I look forward to your stay … and think you’ll want to come back. Time and time again!
As a writer, I left Woodstock for a few years to do research in Florida. With research behind me, I now split my time between rustic, romantic Woodstock and New York City--the best of both worlds. My two dogs travel with me - and I have been blessed with opportunities to stay at homes that allow pets. I offer the same kindness to those with four-footed family members of the canine persuasion -- with 2.5 acres of a fenced in yard, they will love the home as much as you!
2091 Glasco Turnpike is an historic river stone home, designed and built in the early 1900s by a woman whose name has unfortunately disappeared from the records. She modeled it after the Arts & Crafts homes of England. It has been in our family for three generations, each leaving an indelible mark on its landscape, walls, décor, and furnishings.
The house has nourished many an artist in its day—including the famous illustrator and painter, Anton Otto Fischer (our uncle) and his wife May Fisher, illustrator and suffragette.
Whether you or someone in your party is artistically inclined, I hope that the same muse will envelop you. Be it through writing, painting, playing music, cooking a fabulous meal, or discovering the natural landscape with a new set of eyes.
Hi Lisa. I just wanted to let you know how great a time we had. You guys have a special piece of property. Thank you so much for sharing it. We had such a great time. This is by far our best VRBO experience. Just so clean and all around great. Thanks again
This house was perfect for our weekend. Three couples and three dogs, with a wonderful fenced in area so that the pooches had the time of their lives! And we did not have to worry about their safety! We cooked every meal at home on the wonderful grill and we sat around a great ourside fire and drank wine. We all just had the best time! The house also had very comfortable beds! The place looks like a children's storybook home and we all felt very welcomed and relaxed there. We will definitely be back! Thank you Lisa!
we were looking for a quick getaway with another couple and our four dogs. Lisa's house was charming and more importantly, comfortable. There is a fenced in yard for the dogs, and just outside the driveway another 40 acres of conserved land for all to hike. Plus, the house is a quick drive into Woodstock for shops and restaurants. Even if you don't want to eat out, there is a nice kitchen and outdoor grill with local markets in Woodstock and Hurley's Marketplace just a 5-10 minute drive away. We'd hope to stay there again if schedules also.
Was looking for an unforgettable getaway to celebrate my husband's birthday with four of our dearest friends (and two dogs) — and this was it! The pictures truly don't do this arts and crafts-style charmer justice. Every detail is perfect — a mix of vintage and new rustic chic, art and architecture, color and light, with inviting spa-styled bedrooms and bathrooms, beautiful linens, a chef's kitchen. Everything we wanted and more! The living room was so cozy, we canceled our dinner reservations and sat around just talking for hours. There's plenty to do in the area, too — skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, kayaking. And it's an easy walk to the center of Woodstock for shopping, strolling and dining. Didn't want to leave. Can't wait to return. Thank you, Lisa!
Lisa's house was wonderful. So comfortable and stocked with almost everything you need to have a cozy weekend in the woods. The listing is super accurate. We hope to stay there again, which is the best compliment I can think of.
I wanted to plan a special get away with a select group of dear friends to celebrate the end of my teaching career and to mark my new status in life. The house was just pefect. It is truly more wonderful that the pictures. There are so many artful and quaint touches. The rooms were wonderful and each person loved exploring the house when they arrived to discover all the special spots. Each room had its own charm. The screened in sleeping porch was a highlight. The kitchen was lovely and great to work in. The dishes on the exposed shelves and the wine glasses from the cabinet in the dining room were all convenient to access and made for easy clean up. We enjoyed dining around the rustic yet elegant table in the dining area. Sitting around the living room and talking was sublime. Of all the rooms the living room was more beautiful in person than what you can see in the photos. The technology in the house is also incredible. The airplay system for music and the electronic thermostats were cutting edge. The house has wonderfully wooden floors throughout and they were creaky when you moved around. We joked about it and said this is not a house to be in if you want to sneak around.
In the evening sat out on the stone patio grilled our dinner. The table which was a huge slab of stone was really unique. Then we gathered around a fire and had the grand celebration of my retirement. I was truly blessed to be with all of my dear friends in this special house.
We were only at the house for two nights, but I could easliy see being there for a week. I would love to spend time reading and relaxing throughout the house and doing more hiking and exploring of the glorious region.
Overall the house was magnificent and extremely comfortable. We all felt at home immediately and got right into enjoying each moment of being there.
I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family. The property was clean, Lovely bathrooms, plenty of towels, uniquely appointed and very charming.
We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant in Bearsville our first night in town. We we spent an afternoon in Woodstock. We picked up groceries at the Sunflower Market and Bread Alone. I also recommend Sunfrost Farmers Market and Oriole 9.
I don't really know where to start, because our stay at Lisa's house was so wonderful and perfect in every way! When my sister and I first arrived we couldn't stop gushing over how beautiful and charming everything was, from the gardens, the lawns, to every room in the house. We had a bunch of girls come to celebrate my sister getting married, and there was enough of everything at the house. Lisa has plenty of fresh, clean towels/linens, and the kitchen was fully stocked. Lisa also has everything very organized and explained, which made our stay more relaxing. She also has a great notebook with local restaurants and other information about Woodstock, which was such a great help; yet, if we had any additional questions, she quickly responded to our text messages. We all had such an amazing time at this charming house; I wish we could spend every weekend there!
