CHARMING TRANQUIL TUSCAN VILLA SET IN THE EXCLUSIVE VILLA ARCENO CHIANTI ESTATE

Castelnuovo Berardenga Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Arco al Poggio, 2 bedroom apartment, exclusive porch and garden, swimming pool

Set into the beautiful Chianti hills of Villa Arceno, a vast private estate and nature reserve, the apartment comprises three floors within a renovated traditional Tuscan farmhouse split into three properties.

Accessed by its own entrance at ground level from a secluded private garden into a small courtyard leading to a porch which also houses a wood fired oven. A stairway leads up to a private patio 'the Loggia' with exclusive use for 'al fresco' dining seating six. The entrance to the apartment is from the Loggia directly into a spacious living area with fireplace and a dining area accommodating up to eight people and kitchen. At one end a twin single bedroom and bathroom with shower, at the other a stairway leads to a spacious and romantic master bedroom with beautiful views over the vineyards and the village of San Gusmè. A second bathroom elegantly finished with a large bathtub and shower serves the master bedroom. Guests also have the use of a tranquil private swimming pool.

THE ESTATE OF VILLA ARCENO: The Tenuta is a vast area (1000 hectares) of forest, vineyards, olive groves, cypress avenues, dotted with traditional farmhouses “the Casali”, some of which are enigmatic, romantic ruins awaiting restoration.

The “Villa” (Manor House) of the estate dates from the 16th century along with its own chapel, a romantic park and lake. From the Villa the original owners would have managed the estate directing the farmhands and peasants who were housed in the Casali along with various farm animals.

Il Poggio was once a working Casale but is now restored with modern benefits, it now houses those who wish to relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Chianti countryside.

AROUNDABOUTS: From Il Poggio there are views towards the famous Crete (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and beyond towards Monte Amiata. To the rear of the Casale lies the medieval walled village of San Gusmè, a short 15 minute walk through the vines where, if one pleases may have a drink at the village café and admire panoramic views in almost all directions to Siena and its Torre del Mangia. All areas of the estate are reached by “strade bianche”, literally “white roads” which are unpaved. Although used by the public these roads are quiet, allowing walking, cycling and jogging at one’s own pace. The surrounding region is stuffed with history, art, food and wine. Siena, with its famous “Palio” an exciting adrenaline fueled horse race (2nd July and 16th August) is only 15 minutes away. With Italy’s excellent road network, Florence, San Giminiano, le Crete, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona and Arezzo are with easy reach for day trips. In the other direction Umbria with Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Todi.

AMENITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT: Famous for food and wine there are many places to see and go to in order to discover the flavours of Chianti. You may be a passive or active participant, either eating and drinking the results or endeavouring to discover by involving yourself in making the results through cooking or winery lessons at source. If you are the more active type you may divert yourself through a round of golf or horse riding. Should you prefer to indulge yourself in pure relaxation a day lounging at the seaside or a spa may be your preference.

Packed full of history and art, there are many galleries, exhibitions, museums, churches, palaces and other diverse artisanal places to be discovered.

Or you may lounge around the pool......

Guestbook comments from the owner

Entering the Villa Arceno estate, you are immediately enveloped in a beautiful landscape of cypress lined hills, olive groves, vineyards and stone farmhouses, creating a perfect Tuscan scene. Il Poggio comes with a pretty garden, swimmng pool, and is elevated across two upper floors, giving outstanding views of the nearby village and the estate. The property is furnished to an excellent standard and offers every convenience for your stay. The large, private terrace is the most perfect setting to enjoy every meal and was saturated with almond blossom over Easter. Il Poggio is perfectly located to enjoy the amenities of nearby Castelnuovo Beradenga, which offers a good choice of local osterias and a local winery as well as a short drive to the historic towns Sienna and Florence, all manageable within a day. A perfect to relax and soak up the Italian sunshine, robust red wines and fabulous restaurants.

Ticks all the boxes

  • 5 of 5
We were squeezing in a two-night stay at the villa before going on elsewhere, and all wished we'd had longer to enjoy its tranquility and beauty. The generous welcome hamper meant that we had plenty to see us through the first night without having to worry about getting supplies, and the lovely Catherine came to show us how everything worked etc and tell us about restaurants in the local area. We managed to tear ourselves away for a walk through the vineyards to the nearby village, but otherwise enjoyed the swimming pool and sitting on the terrace, watching the nesting swifts flying in and out to feed their babies. I just wish we could have stayed longer! There was plenty of room for our two children (8 and 11) and everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. It was impeccably maintained, beautifully decorated and well equipped. We hope to return!

Tuscany in Spring....Il Poggio

  • 4 of 5
First time travel to Tuscany in Spring, lovely time of year to go. Stayed on Villa Arceno previously and as our previous accommodations had been unavailable so settled on Il Poggio - happy to say we greatly enjoyed the villa. The location is near the the entrance to Villa Arceno by white road so no long and uncertain drive after dinner or a long day of site seeing. The villa site in a panoramic position with a covered loggia, and I found the interior to be bright as each room had plenty of natural light - some typical Tuscan villas can be somewhat dark. We did hour long walks each morning and encountered wonderful wildlife throughout the vineyards and olive groves. The management support was solid and accommodating. Great location for day trips and close to amenities for provisions.
We have been to Italy several times and thoroughly Il Poggio, will be back!
One item that could be improved is the payment process, the bank transfer costs can add up and exchange rates by converting monies is a bit of a turn off for non EU travellers.

Amazing Tuscan Villa!

  • 5 of 5
It is difficult to add to what has already been said. This is a fabulous place that you almost wish to keep as your secret. For our purposes, it was perfect! We stayed with one other couple. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the villa and the family and kitchen areas in the middle, we chose to eat at the villa a couple of nights. Centrally located, it is a perfect base day trips in all directions. A small grocery store and a good restaurant are as close as an easy walk through the vineyards to San Gusme. There is a larger grocery store in Castelnuovo Berargenga, a short 5km drive away. The villa's setting on the Tenuta di Arceno Estate allows for plenty of privacy with amazing views of the countryside from the villa's porch or any of it's windows. Catherine, the villa's caretaker, met us at the villa, explained everything, and was available by cellphone and email for emails and advice. We can not imagine a better place to stay.

Beautiful and tranquil Tuscan retreat

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful house in a fantastic setting. Located on a hill in a huge estate producing olive oil and wine means it is very quiet and secluded and is surrounded by classic views of vines and olive groves. There are 3 or 4 apartments in the adjacent buildings but they are laid out in such a way that you are not overlooked or feel like you're on top of other people. The house itself is clean and very well equipped with everything you need including espresso machine and wifi. The welcome basket is a nice touch and means you don't have to spend time searching out the local shop on your first day. Getting around is very easy as the house is 15mins from one of the main roads. Lots of beautiful places visit - more that I can list here. My one recommendation off the tourist trail would be the town of Arezzo. All in all totally recommended.

Amazing - Just what we needed.

  • 5 of 5
It is the second time we have stayed at this lovely villa Il Poggio and we can't wait to return. From moment you pass through tunnel of the Arceno estate you enter in a magic and blissful world of peace and beauty.

Surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, the arrival at end of a country road takes you to a place which is spectacular.

The villa was everything as described on the web site and even more than shown.
It is so easy to settle in to this house, like moving from home to home. It presents high quality and comfortable furniture and is perfectly equipped. Even the WIFi was working very efficiently in spite of being in the middle of the Chianti countryside.

The whole villa was spotless upon our arrival nothing was missing and everything in perfect order. Catherine warmly welcomed us and helped us to settle in quite easily. The welcome food and wine basket was lovely and allowed us to get started after a long travel (from Japan) without the need to rush to the shops straight away.

The correspondence with Anna the owner before our stay has been very helpful, smooth and efficient.

During our stay, the grounds and pool were kept very tidy and clean, the swimming pool is remarkable with fabulous views and set within the peaceful garden surrounding the villa amongst vineyards and olive groves. There you can relax, lounge around the pool, take fantastic walks along the white roads of the extensive estate of Arceno, enjoy the scenery and its breathtaking views and stop by at the Arceno vine estate for a taste of their wine.
Even at 32C degrees, our stay was comfortable and nights cooled down by the ceiling fans. The peace and quiet at the villa is wonderful, the only noise from crickets and birds, at night you can look at the stars in the moonlight.

There are so many wonderful places to visit, from Siena to Florence and Arezzo and all the lovely walled villages in between.

The location is close to San Gusme and Villa a Sesta, quaint Tuscan villages, with some of the most outstanding restaurants around.
All of the recommended restaurants that we tried, we found friendly and providing high quality food. Our favourite, although not the cheapest, is La Bottega del Trenta in Villa a Sesta, the highlight of our Italian food and wine tasting tour.

We would most certainly recommend Il Poggio to anyone wishing for a quality and luxury rental property in Tuscany (although we would like to keep this secret to ourselves).
