Overview

Castelnuovo Berardenga Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Arco al Poggio, 2 bedroom apartment, exclusive porch and garden, swimming pool

Set into the beautiful Chianti hills of Villa Arceno, a vast private estate and nature reserve, the apartment comprises three floors within a renovated traditional Tuscan farmhouse split into three properties.

Accessed by its own entrance at ground level from a secluded private garden into a small courtyard leading to a porch which also houses a wood fired oven. A stairway leads up to a private patio 'the Loggia' with exclusive use for 'al fresco' dining seating six. The entrance to the apartment is from the Loggia directly into a spacious living area with fireplace and a dining area accommodating up to eight people and kitchen. At one end a twin single bedroom and bathroom with shower, at the other a stairway leads to a spacious and romantic master bedroom with beautiful views over the vineyards and the village of San Gusmè. A second bathroom elegantly finished with a large bathtub and shower serves the master bedroom. Guests also have the use of a tranquil private swimming pool.

THE ESTATE OF VILLA ARCENO: The Tenuta is a vast area (1000 hectares) of forest, vineyards, olive groves, cypress avenues, dotted with traditional farmhouses “the Casali”, some of which are enigmatic, romantic ruins awaiting restoration.

The “Villa” (Manor House) of the estate dates from the 16th century along with its own chapel, a romantic park and lake. From the Villa the original owners would have managed the estate directing the farmhands and peasants who were housed in the Casali along with various farm animals.

Il Poggio was once a working Casale but is now restored with modern benefits, it now houses those who wish to relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Chianti countryside.

AROUNDABOUTS: From Il Poggio there are views towards the famous Crete (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and beyond towards Monte Amiata. To the rear of the Casale lies the medieval walled village of San Gusmè, a short 15 minute walk through the vines where, if one pleases may have a drink at the village café and admire panoramic views in almost all directions to Siena and its Torre del Mangia. All areas of the estate are reached by “strade bianche”, literally “white roads” which are unpaved. Although used by the public these roads are quiet, allowing walking, cycling and jogging at one’s own pace. The surrounding region is stuffed with history, art, food and wine. Siena, with its famous “Palio” an exciting adrenaline fueled horse race (2nd July and 16th August) is only 15 minutes away. With Italy’s excellent road network, Florence, San Giminiano, le Crete, Pienza, Montalcino, Cortona and Arezzo are with easy reach for day trips. In the other direction Umbria with Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio and Todi.

AMENITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT: Famous for food and wine there are many places to see and go to in order to discover the flavours of Chianti. You may be a passive or active participant, either eating and drinking the results or endeavouring to discover by involving yourself in making the results through cooking or winery lessons at source. If you are the more active type you may divert yourself through a round of golf or horse riding. Should you prefer to indulge yourself in pure relaxation a day lounging at the seaside or a spa may be your preference.

Packed full of history and art, there are many galleries, exhibitions, museums, churches, palaces and other diverse artisanal places to be discovered.

Or you may lounge around the pool......

Guestbook comments from the owner

Entering the Villa Arceno estate, you are immediately enveloped in a beautiful landscape of cypress lined hills, olive groves, vineyards and stone farmhouses, creating a perfect Tuscan scene. Il Poggio comes with a pretty garden, swimmng pool, and is elevated across two upper floors, giving outstanding views of the nearby village and the estate. The property is furnished to an excellent standard and offers every convenience for your stay. The large, private terrace is the most perfect setting to enjoy every meal and was saturated with almond blossom over Easter. Il Poggio is perfectly located to enjoy the amenities of nearby Castelnuovo Beradenga, which offers a good choice of local osterias and a local winery as well as a short drive to the historic towns Sienna and Florence, all manageable within a day. A perfect to relax and soak up the Italian sunshine, robust red wines and fabulous restaurants.

Surrounded by beauty

  • 5 of 5

We are Italians but we live in the States; wishing to spend a holiday in Italy we decided for enchanting Tuscany that we have visited so often in the past and we were missing so much. When we arrived in Arceno after a long flight, it was as if we had entered an enchanted place so away from it all. A place that oozes history and reminds of ancient times. The house is a refurbished Tuscan "casale" with all modern comforts, perfectly kept and cleaned, even Wifi works very efficiently. Personal touches all over the house that is very spacious and can be perfect for both a family with children or two couples. Anna the owner has been very friendly and helpful throughout the booking process and beyond and has accommodated all our requests. The area of the Chianti is a joy to visit, every day a new experience for all our senses, sight, smell, taste ... it delivers in every respect. and if you feel a bit touristy, there all the beautiful towns of Siena, Florence, San Giminiano, Cortona and the Crete hills. One week was not enough.... Marta

A PLACE TO NEST

  • 5 of 5

Due to our jobs we are world travellers and for our holidays we were endeavouring to find a place where to relax and spend our time as lazy tourist surrounded by tranquillity, beauty and history. We are also very spoilt and we are always very anxious that the place would meet our high standards. I have confess we have been overly impressed by the house, the estate where it is located and the service provided by the owner Anna and Catherine. Relaxing time in the loggia and the garden, fantastic wine from the estate and outstanding food in all restaurants in the area. Art and history in Siena and Florence, but so much to see also away from the tourist drag. The house is immaculate, impeccable and so enjoyable. The outside loggia is a real bonus, a perfect space to stay outside in total privacy. Even when you decide not to spend a day out and about, at home you are so comfortable and cosy. There is constant assistance during the stay, with indications and ideas of what to do and local tips on special places to visit or on restaurants which the owner knows personally and enjoys. When back in Tuscany, this is surely a place to remember. J&R, London

Great Tuscan memories

  • 5 of 5

We had a long spring break trip to Italy in 2014. We spent the last week of our journey at Il Poggio and it was the best part of our tour. May is a wonderful month there, start of the summer season, the pool is open and the water just right. We spent few days lazing in the garden taking in the Tuscan sun and reading and dining in the porch. There are beautiful views of vineyards, woods and hills all around , shy deer and hares around, the landscape is amazing. The house is perfect, elegantly furnished and extremely well equipped. The beds are really comfortable and the bedrooms are located on two separate floors, each with its own bathroom and privacy. The location is perfect for any eager traveller and Siena, what a fantastic experience. We are recommending this property to all our friends and it will be in our memories forever, unbeatable.

Enchanted!

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Il Poggio has been perfect, fantastic house and location, secluded estate but still so near to Siena and Florence that you can make a day trip visit. The house is the quintessential Tuscan style, old farm house refurbished to the highest standards. We chose the property for the nice photos and comprehensive descriptions and it was all there, even more. Warm but not too hot, nice breeze at night and fantastic external space where to dine outside in the loggia in total peace and tranquillity in the evening after a long day out. A chilled glass of white wine and the noise of the crickets, what can one ask for more? We were travelling with two other friends and the house is so well laid out that each couple had their own privacy albeit being in the same house. The surroundings are astounding, a private, secluded and historical estate where you can have fantastic hicking tours along the white roads that cross the estate. And at the end of the road the nice village of San Gusme where to stop for a coffee before going back home. Not to mention the restaurants and wine tours .... so much to do and not enough time. We shall be back, a gem to remember.

CHIANTI IN SUMMER

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Arco al Poggio for one week in June 2014. We have travelled in Italy often since 2000, and would place this beautiful home at the top of our list. The homeowner and the lady in charge for its maintenance are the perfect hosts...easy to work with, extremely helpful in every way, and have a very high standard of excellence in the property they rent. The home itself truly feels like a home away from home. It has been restored in the true Tuscan style, with terra cotta floors and beamed ceilings. The grounds are magnificent, and very relaxing. The kitchen has everything you need, should you choose to cook meals there. It is perfect for a family of 4 or 2 couples travelling together, as there is a split bedroom floor plan with bathrooms en suite.

Nearby there is a charming little medieval village. We enjoyed gelato and cappucinos at the bar in the main square and a wonderful dinner with Helene at Bottega del 30. Castelnuovo is the perfect home base for exploring all that Tuscany has to offer. A truly beautiful stay in magical Italia!!

A hidden paradise

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the house Arco al Poggio. The house exceeded our expectations; homely, perfectly appointed, immaculate, great kitchen to cook in and stunning grounds. We were even able to light a fire in the evenings in the wood burning stove when it would get a little chilly. It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by all the nature and quiet. This is an ideal place for people looking to stay in a beautiful quiet setting that is a little off the beaten path. The village of San Gusme' , at walking distance, had a wonderful trattoria that we frequented. Wonderful trails to hike. And all within half an hour drive to Sienna and more touristy areas. This was a real oasis and we feel very fortunate to have been able to stay here. We highly recommend staying here to future travellers.
