Photos and Description of the Tavistock vacation barn rental Sleeps 2, 15 minute walk to the moor, in walking distance of three resturants

Townend Barn is detached and situated in an acre of grounds with Townend House the village of Lydford. The barn is situated behind the main house and the parking is off road. Beautifully converted to a high standard, the barn is open plan but intimate and heated by storage heaters and a very efficient wood burning stove. There is a grand piano (too big for our house!) which is beautiful to play. The are two bookcases filled with interesting books for you to enjoy. Lydford has no street lighting so after an evening meal at one of the three good restaurants in the village you can walk home without worrying who is going to drive. Lydford is a thriving working village and an ideal base from which to have a relaxing and interesting time. The moor is only 15 minutes walk. It is a beautiful unspoilt part of the moor - No ice cream vans or big coach parties. You can find wilderness within half an hour. Ready made meals can be pre-ordered for the week home made from Anna's kitchen.

Townend Barn is well located to enjoy a large range of activities. We are in the Dartmoor National Park and just 15 minutes walk (2 minutes drive!) from the moor. Bodmin moor is a 30 minute drive. We are just 10 minutes drive from the towns of Tavistock and Okehampton and the Cathedral city of Exeter is about 45 minutes down the A30. The market town of Launceston and the bright lights of Plymouth are also within easy reach. You can catch a bus to Okehampton or Tavistock (on to Plymouth) in the village. Lydford has no streetlights so the night sky is there in all its glory, perhaps you could take a night walk on the moor for a totally different experience. Dartmoor offers horse riding, cycling, walking whilst within the hour you can drive to the North Cornwall coast excellent surfing, sandy beaches, rock pools and cliff top walks. In addition there are golf courses, water sports, and fishing.

  • All weekly rate prices are for one week's rental including linen and towels, all electricity, heating, basket of logs and box of essentials.

    SPECIAL WINTER WEEKEND RATE (7th October -2nd April): £160 from 4pm Friday until 4pm Sunday including basket of logs, linen, towels, all electricity heating and a box of essentials.
  • A deposit of 30% is required when booking with the balance payable 4 weeks before the beginning of your holiday (unless last minute booking, in which case the total amount needs to be received when booking). We strongly advise taking out holiday insurance.
  • Dogs welcome by arrrangement.
    We can collect you from Exeter St Davids railway station or Exeter airport for a £20 transfer fee.
    Bikes available for hire £10 per week.

Listing description accurate, property perfectly clean, good customer service,would recommend the place to friends, loved the walks.

I could quite happily be snowed in at the barn (even in mid summer). The owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and even collected me from the station 30 miles away and took me back and it didn't break the bank. This is indeed a lovely area, the barn was gorgeous, lots to do and I have friends here. Who could ask for anything more? I'll be back.....

Cosy Barn in Lydford

Received a very warm welcome from owners Nick and Tania, who were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The Barn was very clean and well presented, and the wood burner completed the "cosy" feel to the place.
We used it as a base to cycle the Devon Coast to Coast cycle route. Over the week we were able to see such varied scenery, such as bare moorland, river estuaries, wooded valleys and Lydford Gorge.
Easy walking distance for a pint at the pub and a superb meal at the Dartmoor Inn.
We really enjoyed our stay and could have stayed longer - there is so much here for the outdoor person.

The perfect holiday bolthole

Stayed here on recommendation from another friend and it was well deserved. Lovely property - set away from the main house so you have your privacy, comfortable and extremely well maintained and clean. The owner, Tania, could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and the peace and quiet (with the occasional quacks from the resident courtyard ducks) was idyllic. I thoroughly recommend this property for a weekend or a longer stay.
