Quiet retreat in beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5
This house is simply amazing, set in the quiet village of Borla surrounded by beautiful countryside. Giovanna, the owner was the perfect host, making us (couple with 2 small children, 3 yrs and 8 months) feel extremely welcome. We loved sitting on the balcony with that first cup of coffee in the morning, enjoying the sunshine and blue skies.
There are lots of castles close by and it's easy to get to the bigger towns and cities e.g. Florence about 3hrs away, Parma just over an hour.
For the whole family the highlight of our stay was the village Festa. Everybody just getting together in the field behind the church for food, drinks and live music. The Torta frittas were so yummy. Everybody was extremely friendly and our 3yr old didn't want to leave the dance floor and got upset when we took her home at midnight!
Overall a great holiday, made special by the location and Giovanna.

Magical adventures in Northern Italy!!

  • 5 of 5
From the moment we arrived in Borla, Giovanna and Cesare made their home feel like home to us! They are so friendly and they made the visit even more wonderful! During the tour of the immaculately kept accommodations, we were so excited to find some fresh eggs and milk and juice in the refrigerator!!

The area is absolutely breathtaking. The small town of Borla is so welcoming ... we stopped at Bar Bola and met Lorenzo and had one of the best meals we had eating out in a restaurant !! (Giovanna is an amazing cook! - we were lucky enough to have her squeeze us in for a cooking lesson! She is such a busy lady!!!) The rolling hills and quaint small towns that pepper the countryside are so picturesque.

We were within a couple hours of Verona and Venice and Bologna but the smaller towns of Parma and Salsamaggorie and Cremora were much closer. We loved the trip to one of the local castles, Castell' Arquato. We also went to Cinque Terre and Imperia for our seaside adventure.

We highly recommend Giovanna and Cesare's Farmhouse to be your destination in Borla! It made for a perfect vacation for my family!

A warm welcome to a lovely place...

  • 5 of 5
This was our first visit to Emilia Romagna and we were delighted with the comfortable, spacious and well-equipped accommodation, the beautiful countryside, but above all with the warmth of the welcome from Giovanna and family. We were very pleased to find the butter, milk and excellent fresh eggs in the fridge on arrival, with many other gifts of local produce during the week of our stay. The village of Borla is easy to find and well-placed for access by car to the eminently visitable centres of Salsomaggiore, Parma, Cremona and Bologna. The local countryside is green and hilly, with plenty of quiet tracks and minor roads linking the villages. Giovanna could not have been more helpful during our stay: on this first trip, there was no time for her cooking lessons, but that's something we'll look forward to on our next visit. We would strongly recommend Giovanna's house as a way to discover the local area and region and send her our thanks and best wishes.

Stunning countryside and italian way of life

  • 5 of 5
My friend and I recently spent a holiday in Italy which included a week in the small, most lovely town of Borla, near Parma. We stayed in the centre of the village from where we could observe all the local activities. Our hosts, Giovanna and Franco, were the best and even brought us fresh vegetables from their garden and berries from the mountain. They really created a "home away from home" feel. The house has all the luxuries that you can wish for and the many surrounding castles are a joy to the traveller. Salsomaggiore, nearby spa town is a gem and we wish we could have enjoyed more lazy Sunday afternoons with the locals listening to live music at the outdoor cafes and drinking in the "joie de vivre" of the locals. Our visit to Portofina was a highlight and made all our friends jealous especially those who have travelled the world but could not visit this lovely coastal town as yet. This accommodation was a real find which we will recommend to all our friends.
