Located 12 minutes east of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, this property offers the best of both worlds. Enjoy the phrenetic atmosphere of downtown Oxford then retreat to the country when it's time to relax. This 1000 square foot dwelling lives large and offers all the necessary amenities. Overlooking two ponds, the view and setting are perfect for kicking back.
We live in Oxford just above the hill from this property. My husband owns and operates a kennel beside the property. We are raising two young daughters and have been in Oxford for 10 years. We also have 5 dogs of our own though only one of them lives inside.
Amy purchased this cottage in 2005
This property was designed by our friends Jonathon Mattox at Howorth Architects and Bill Lilly of Village Green Builders. It was designed for a competition using ordinary materials in an extraordinary way. The structure is actually comprised of three shipping containers. Though grid tied, the majority of the home's electrical power is supplied through a solar panel.
This is a peaceful, dog-friendly property. Perfect for those who wish to be able to enjoy the festivities of town but take rest away from the hurly-burly of town.
This was a wonderful place to stay. We were visiting our son at Ole Miss for a football weekend and loved this gorgeous setting. After fun days at the square, and a football game at the Grove, this peaceful retreat was a welcome reward. The views are amazing, especially in fall. The house was clean and we had no problem finding the place at night. Loved it all, we had no complaints! Thank you!
Our daughter is a freshman at Ole Miss and we stayed at Bell's Retreat during parents weekend. It was wonderful. The house is very close to campus and we could count on about a 10 to 15 minute commute. It was very well decorated and very clean. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch overlooking the private lake. In the evening, it was fun to watch the deer and other wildlife. What an amazing place. You have a private cabin with all the comforts of home. The owners of the property are great and want to make your stay perfect. They love dogs and allowed us to bring my wife's little Westie mix. We hope they will have us again. I highly recommend this place. Thanks Amy for the hospitality.
Great Place to visit. Very Clean, Cozy and Comfortable. The location is beautiful. Don't recommend arriving after dark, the location is remote and difficult to locate after dark. BUT worth it when you wake up to a sunrise over the lake with deer eating off the front porch. The beds are slightly uncomfortable but otherwise the PERFECT spot. Very nice owners, lots of personal touches, fresh flowers, coffee...couldn't have asked for a better experience. Very unique property built from railroad cars; far exceeded my expectations.
The Hotty Toddy Guest Cottage is truly a charming and unique property. My family and I stayed there over an Ole Miss football weekend. The property is located about 10 minutes from town with easy access to the university, the square and the grocery store. Amy, the owner, was wonderful to work with and I want to send her a huge THANK YOU for all the wonderful little touches that she incorporated into our stay (fresh flowers, crackers and dip, guest size toiletries, etc).
While the cottage structure is unique, it is decorated quite warmly with many vintage pieces that adds to its charm. The property's remote location may not appeal to everyone, but we found it very safe and beautiful.
The only downside of the cottage for us was the full size bed. It was a tight and uncomfortable fit for my husband and I and is the reason for the 4 star rating ( I would actually give it 4 1/2 stars if that were an option).
