This cabin is a perfect get away for a family, couple, or friends. There are two bedrooms with queen beds, a hide-a-bed, a couch and window seat bed. The cabin is two stories with a one car garage, rec room, half bath (sink and toilet only), fire place and washer/dryer on the ground level and two bedrooms, full bath, kitchen, family room and deck on the upper level. The deck provides a great view of the valley.
Situated on 3.2 arces and next to 14 acres of open space, the cabin feels secluded in the pine trees.
The cabin is fully furnished including linens, dishes, appliances, utinsels, etc. There is a pool table on the ground level and a ping pong table in the garage that can be set up. The TV is set up for DVDs only. There is not Internet or TV programing available. Cell phone service is spoty based on your provider, but there is a land line phone in the cabin.
Randy and Betsy are the owners of this cabin. The cabin is brand new, completed June 2012. It was built as a mountain retreat for our family and friends. We make our home in Littleton, Colorado a suburb of Denver, Colorado. Betsy originates from St. Louis, MO, but has spent most of her time in Colorado. Randy is from Phoenix, AZ but got to Colorado as fast as he could. We both enjoy this area for its beauty, quietness, the stars, cool air, and the outdoor activities.
Betsy is an artist and spends time painting at the cabin and in the area. She has her work displayed in the Courtyard Gallery in Buena Vista. Randy enjoys photography.
Randy and Betsy purchased this cabin in 2011
Betsy and I were first introduced to the Mt Princeton area in 2002 when we joined with four other families to build a small cabin within a mile of this one. We eventually decided to build a place of our own so we could spend more time in the mountains. Once you have stayed here you will agree that it is a special place!
We chose the property for this cabin because of the view and its proximity to a 14 acre meadow. Every morning we wake up and look outside to see what nature has for us. The valley is always changing with the clouds, the morning deer and the sunrise on the chalk cliffs providing something new. At night we anticipate sitting on the deck and looking up at the stars for an amazing display of the galaxy. Even though it feels like we are in the middle of the forest, we are minutes away from services and amenities.
The cabin is located in an area known as the Mt. Princeton area or the Chalk Cliffs area.
The Arkansas Valley region is a 'banana belt’, which keeps the temperatures from the extremes and limits heavy snow fall to elevations above 7,500'. This cabin is on the snow line, so snow depths are variable. Within minutes of the cabin you can hike, fish, 4-wheel, cycle, swim, cross country ski, raft, rock climb, and camp. For the more adventurous, hiking any of the 14teeners in the area is an accomplishment.
Everyone should take a trip down the Arkansas River at least once to experience white water rafting. Depending on the water level and type of trip there are trips for all levels from calmer waters to Class 5 water.
The Mt. Princeton Resort and Hot Springs is a popular destination with a hot springs swimming pool.
St Elmo ghost town is 12 miles up valley and is a great mountain drive and off-roading area in the summer.
Chalk Creek is a 10-minute walk and good for fishing.
Horseback riding is available near the Mt Princeton resort.
For unique restaurants and art galleries spend the afternoon and evening in Buena Vista 9 miles north or Salida12 miles south. There are several interesting bars in both towns.
A perfect weekend in this area would include our local favorites:
Explore St. Agnes falls: Drive 10 minutes up the valley and hike .5 miles to the base of the falls.
Eat breakfast at the Evergreen Café in Buena Vista.
Take home a painting from a local artist at the Courtyard Gallery in Buena Vista.
Go on an adventure with Noah’s Ark Rafting Company or another local outfitter.
Soak in the hot springs at the Mt. Princeton Resort or Cottonwood Hot Springs.
Take a scenic drive up to the ghost town, St. Elmo -- a trip back to the gold mining days.
Enjoy a gourmet dinner at the Laughing Ladies Restaurant in Salida or the Eddyline Restaurant & Brewery in Buena Vista.
