Charming Sausolito retreat in a very good neighborhood

  • 4 of 5
The romantic Pied a Terre is nicely located in a very safe and calm neighborhood. The entrance is very private and sitting in the garden is a pleasure. The accomodation provides all that is required to feel comfortable and welcome.

All attractions in Sausolito or in San Francisco can be reached easily by public transportation and the house is a good starting point and there is no need to use a car.

As already stated in previous comments - the location is nice, clean and comfy but the bed could be better - I hardly had a good nights sleep.

Carolyn is a very nice and helpful host and provides all necessary information to get around in Sausalito and her recommendations regarding restaurants and grocery stores were accurate and up to date.

Charming Sausalito Retreat with Wonderful Hosts

  • 4 of 5
What we loved
My husband, 8 yr. old daughter and myself stayed here for one week. We spent most of our time in San Francisco seeing all the sights and loved returning every night to the quiet of Sausalito. We loved sitting out in the garden planning our day and eating dinners at the big farm table. Carolyn was very nice and we got to know her quite well during our visit. We spoke or saw her on a daily basis. She left us fresh bread, milk and creamer the first day. I have to say it was probably the best milk we ever tasted. The place is decorated beautifully with hand picked stylish antiques. Street parking was easy enough to find each night and we felt very safe the whole time in Sausalito. Sam, the cat, is a wonderful host too. It was nice to have him greet you at the gate. However, I feel you have to be a real animal or cat person to feel 100 percent comfortable with this special arrangement. You are somewhat responsible for feeding him etc. and making sure he is in at a certain time. We also spent some time grooming and brushing him, which he loved.
What we thought could be better
The double bed was too small for two adults and the frame creaked quite a bit. The blow up twin bed works pretty good if it's for a child but is uncomfortable for an adult. I ended up sleeping on the blow up and my husband and daughter fit on the double okay. We made the best of it. I definitely recommend acquiring a pull out couch for the living room and a bigger bed for the bedroom (which might be difficult to fit in the space?). Also be aware that there is only one small tv in the bedroom. It was kind of difficult for all three of us to watch tv together. On the other hand, it was nice to talk and read more. So if there was a way to put a tv in the living room that might be another recommendation.
Tips
We found two great neighborhood restaurants that we loved. For Mexican we highly recommend Saylor's. The empanadas, margaritas and salsa were authentic and delicious. One block away is the best Italian place, called Taste of Rome. It has the best pepperoni pizza and Hank's root beer was great to wash it down with. The first night we had three pasta dishes and they were all great too, including there garlic bread. Yum!
We also recommend getting the City Pass for sight seeing in San Francisco. It can save you a bunch.

It wasn't perfect but Carolyn & Sam made it special. We will always remember them fondly and wish them the best.

All around Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
I spent a delightful week at Carolyn's Pied a Terre. The place is perfectly located on a quiet street. I walked along the garden path through the little gate to my very private patio/garden with teak furniture and an abundance beautiful flora all in full bloom it was picture perfect and very inviting. Sam the cat was there to welcome me. I miss HIM......
The house is Charming and tastefully done, complete with everything one could possibly need during their stay. Well situated just a short walk to everything, ferry, buses and many super restaurants. There are loads of walking trails with beautiful views.
I certainly do miss sitting on the terrace with my morning coffee contemplating my day of exploration, the house was my little bit of heaven for one week. Already planning a return stay. Sam's Friend.

The Perfect Hideaway

  • 5 of 5
My mother and I enjoyed our two night stay at this charming little gem. Carolyn was a wonderful host, very attentive and provided the little touches that made it feel like home. We enjoyed the garden so much that we opted to dine al fresco with charcuterie and artisan cheese from Drivers instead of the many wonderful establishments in the area. I enjoyed morning walks on the boardwalk as the sun rose over the mountains. This house was perfect for walking to the ferry to take over to San Francisco (which was a fabulous trip). We sad to leave this little slice of heaven.

Perfect Sausalito Retreat

  • 5 of 5
This is a cozy and very well appointed retreat. We were close to downtown, but far enough away for quiet evenings. There are incredible restaurants, shops and stores within easy walking distance. The Sausalito Bike Bicycle Rentals and the restaurants - Avatar and Sushi Ran were terrific!!
The owner was absolutely the best! She made us feel very comfortable and welcome. In fact, she spoiled us rotten. We also loved her cat Sam. The next time we are in the Bay Area, we will not want to stay anywhere but here. We loved it!!!

I left my heart in Sausalito

  • 5 of 5
I will forever cherish the memories I had in Sausalito It's wonderful to come home to Sausalito after time spent in San Francisco. We stayed 4 days. Our time there was too short and we hope to return again. My husband works in the Airlines so we fly on standby. Carolyn, our gracious host was very accommodating and let us book last minute. We spoke many times before the actual booking. It gave us great peace of mind. Also, going home we weren't sure if we would make our flight, but Carolyn assured us we could return and she would be happy to have us back. Carolyn's manner is that of a kind and dear friend you feel like you've always known, and her house is filled with great charm and love. We enjoyed her cat Sam who really seemed to like our daughters. Carolyn brought us delicious bread and butter on our first day there and told us about Sausalito. We were given a parking pass for our car and internet access. We are a family of 5 (with 3 children) but the house accommodated us comfortably. We had an air mattress in addition to the comfortable bed. The house is in a very nice location. One can easily walk to the ferry and downtown Sausalito. There is a restaurant (I believe named Roma of Italy) that has the best Vanilla Chai latte and great Salmon omelets for breakfast. The house is immaculate and has everything you need. Staying here is a dream that will take you to another place in time. The house truly is charming and filled with many details for your senses to enjoy. Carolyn and her beautiful house and charming cat truly made us feel at home. I would recommend Carolyn's house to anyone thinking of visiting Sausalito. You will leave with wonderful memories.

Within walking distance to the Sausalito waterfront, with great city and yacht race views. This is an ideal place to access Americas Cup proceedings. There is also the Sausalito Art Festival held each year over labor day weekend. Year round shopping, movies, bars and restaurants are just steps away. There is also a heliport nearby. I can help you arrange seaplane or helicopter tours over the bay.
