Overview

Kailua Kona Condo Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 2-4. One bedroom, one bath condo on the second floor.

This is a condo in a beautiful sought-after complex right on the water. Every morning you'll be able to sip your Kona coffee on your private lanai while enjoying the sea, surf and lush tropical gardens.

I chose this particular condo because it's quieter than most. Although the many facilities of the Kona Makai complex include a pool, spa, tennis courts, exercise rooms, waterfront barbeque area with chairs, tables and loungers available to you, your condo is nicely positioned away from potential noise.

What's so great about this particular condo is that I live in the area, so if there are any problems, or you have a special request, then I'm here to help - I want to be available so you can have a wonderful vacation here on Big Island.

The condo is furnished in island style, to get you in the mood! You'll find everything you need, so please make it your home while you're here. The unit has all new appliances - a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher and a washer and dryer for your convenience. The complex has WiFi and ample covered parking.

If you don't have transport, you can walk into Kailua Kona (it's about a mile) or to the beaches, or you can also catch a trolley that runs along Ali'i Drive and will take you to the shops, movies and restaurants. In town you'll find many tour companies that will take you to various points of interest on the island.

About Judith Orlopp

I live on a coffee farm in Honaunau, 15 mls south of Kailua-Kona. I moved to Big Island in January 2012 from the Central Coast of California, so I'm still enjoying exploring the island and learning about the culture.

Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay in this condo. We now have a standing reservation for the month of February each year. Judith is a wonderful owner....she replies promptly to emails, keeps a very clean condo (because she lives nearby, she does the cleaning and, therefore, is aware of the condition and needs of the condo), she deals with any issues right away, she is easy to talk to, etc. The condo is on the second floor, therefore, good air flow when the doors are open. We even leave them open during the night with the fans running. No need to use the air conditioners. (There are screen doors to keep out the bugs and birds. If you leave the screens open, the birds will come in for a visit!)

Kona Makai is conveniently located, has good parking, clean and well-maintained grounds, fabulous BBQs, beautiful view of the ocean, lovely pool, etc. However, please note that this complex is not 'kid friendly'. The people who live here and the folks who rent long-stay, enjoy peace and quiet for reading and resting on their lanais and at the pool. The joyful sounds of children at play are not appreciated. Toys are not allowed in the pool, nor are children under the age of two allowed in the pool. We realize that if we ever have our grandchildren visit us in Hawaii, we will need to rent elsewhere....for example, Waikoloa Marriott, Sheraton, etc. where they have pools and activities geared towards children.

If you rent, be sure to read Judith's guest book for recommendations of places to visit, things to do, places to eat.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

When the snow flies in Alaska, we try to take a break in Hawaii and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels and condominiums on these winter vacations. I have stayed at another unit at the Kona Makai previously and the location is perfect, because it is an easy walking distance to town or driving distance to other beaches. My brothers (4), sisters (4), mom and I (along with our families) had a family reunion in Hawaii two years ago and each rented a unit at the Kona Makai so we could be together, but have our space. On that occasion I was able to see a number of different units and for the purposes of my husband and myself, Judith's unit #3205 is at the top of the list. It is tastefully decorated, CLEAN, stocked with all the little things that a family or couple might use one-time (cooler, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc) and was really like a home away from home. It is very quiet, which is important to me and the grounds are impeccably maintained. When we go to the Big Island again this will be our #1 choice. Judith was incredibly easy to work with and when we had to make a schedule change, it was taken care of immediately, with none of the bureaucratic hassles of a management company. An excellent choice!

Wonderful Value In a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful two weeks on the Big Island thanks to our very comfortable accommodation at #3205 Kona Makai. The condo was just as describe and credited to the owner Judith, which is why we decided to choose this condo. It sounded like a place you could just move into and start your vacation--and it was! Judith was a wonderful, caring host, whom we met very soon after we arrived because the kitchen sink had backed up and the under sink alarm had gone off. We were able to e-mail her and she came the next morning and immediately had Maintenance handling the situation. We had a lovely visit and felt well looked after. The condo is furnished very nicely with high quality linens, towels, appliances, kitchen gadgets, furniture, cutlery, dishes, barbecue utensils, small kitchen electrics and even a very nice salad spinner (which I had inquired about from home before we left). There it was! I have rented other "furnished" condo vacation rentals and this was far above the usual. We could relax and start our vacation. Perfect!

The condo and property are well built and maintained as well as the pool and Jacuzzi. The 3 barbecue grills, along with ample chairs and tables and lighting make sunset dinners an easy pleasure. Note there is no glass allowed in the barbecue area--but Judith supplied a second set of plastic dishware/glasses along with a tray so that you can "get cookin" right away. We appreciated the thoughtful books, DVDs, and Big Island guides that she left in the living room. But, we REALLY appreciated the two beach chairs, beach towels, the cooler, the three boogie boards, the noodles, and snorkel gear that she left for us in the closet. The condo is also very quiet at night, which we appreciated after long drives sightseeing. We never needed the air conditioner, but did use the ceiling fans in both the living room and bedroom. The front gate lock was not functioning well during our stay, but the equipment was replaced and a new code given during the last couple of days of our stay. All in all, this condo was a very enjoyable place to stay for the two weeks. It's near everything, but has a lot to offer on its own. The sunsets are remarkable and we often saw schools of dolphins right in front. Our only regret is not having the chance to snorkel in front -several people did go in, but by the time we were ready surf was up.

Perfect Stay on the Big Island

  • 5 of 5

I have been traveling to race Ironman events for the past 13 years and this condo was by far the best.. We were happy to be located just down the street from the hustle and bustle of race headquarters on part of the run course for the event. This condo is within walking distance or a short trolley ride from everything you could possible want. The condo itself was beyond expectations with everything we needed to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Judith is a great host and I have already recommended this condo to everyone I know. Thank you Judith!

Perfect stay on Big Island Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this great condo. It is clean, perfectly equipped and has a wonderful view in the garden and to the sea. We enjoyed every breakfast and dinner on the wonderful balcony. The location of the condo is perfect to make trips around the island with your rental car. We had no complains ad all and can highly recommend this condo. Thank you Judith for this wonderful stay!
