Kailua Kona Condo Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 2-4. One bedroom, one bath condo on the second floor.

This is a condo in a beautiful sought-after complex right on the water. Every morning you'll be able to sip your Kona coffee on your private lanai while enjoying the sea, surf and lush tropical gardens.

I chose this particular condo because it's quieter than most. Although the many facilities of the Kona Makai complex include a pool, spa, tennis courts, exercise rooms, waterfront barbeque area with chairs, tables and loungers available to you, your condo is nicely positioned away from potential noise.

What's so great about this particular condo is that I live in the area, so if there are any problems, or you have a special request, then I'm here to help - I want to be available so you can have a wonderful vacation here on Big Island.

The condo is furnished in island style, to get you in the mood! You'll find everything you need, so please make it your home while you're here. The unit has all new appliances - a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher and a washer and dryer for your convenience. The complex has WiFi and ample covered parking.

If you don't have transport, you can walk into Kailua Kona (it's about a mile) or to the beaches, or you can also catch a trolley that runs along Ali'i Drive and will take you to the shops, movies and restaurants. In town you'll find many tour companies that will take you to various points of interest on the island.

I live on a coffee farm in Honaunau, 15 mls south of Kailua-Kona. I moved to Big Island in January 2012 from the Central Coast of California, so I'm still enjoying exploring the island and learning about the culture.

This bright, island-style condo in Kona Makai makes me feel as if I'm on vacation as soon as I walk in the door!

TROPICAL PARADISE!

  • 5 of 5
A beautifully presented condo set in well-maintained gardens with a generous swimming-pool, an exotic mix of flowers and birds, on the sea front with plenty of parking. This was the perfect retreat after a day touring and discovering. We enjoyed every minute we spent here and we will come back as soon as we can. Perfect!

VERY NICE CONDO

  • 4 of 5
My husband & I spent 10 days in Kona. We enjoyed this condo immensely. It was just as it had been described online. The condo was comfortable and well equipped. We had everything that we needed . It was convenient having a washer and dryer . The condo complex is very clean and well kept.the bed is quite hard and we hot used to it after a few days. The pool & hot tub were great. The condo is close enough to the action to walk to restaurants and shopping. We had a car to tour around , but it is not needed if you are staying in the area.

BEST DECORATED CONDO OF FOUR WE'VE STAYED IN AT THE KONA MAKAI!

Best decorated condo of four we've stayed in at the Kona Makai!
  • 5 of 5
We have been staying at the Kona Makai for 13 years. Judith must have had fun decorating! The kitchen had been remodeled with full-size appliances which was a "first" in our experience. There was a small table with two higher chairs + stools at the counter, but we ate all our meals on the lanai with the lovely grounds and blue ocean. Judith answered our questions concerning what things were in the condo (coffee grinder, etc.) and offered to have Kona coffee, creamer & sugar for us which we declined. We've never rented from such a thoughtful owner! She provided boogie boards for those adventurous souls; we didn't use them but my husband snorkeled almost everyday right out in front. The Kona Makai is one of the only condos where you can do that although I would add that strong swimming skills are best. The furniture sets were tasteful & comfortable. We did survive the queen bed (the only drawback). We've never stayed on the south side, buildings 1,2,3, and found them to be quiet. Kailua Village is a mile up the road, an easy 2 mile round trip walk for coffee at Java Rocks. Our favorite restaurant is the Kona Inn which is a delightful "old Hawaiian" spot on the water in town. Great breakfasts can be found at Bongo Ben's on Alii, Big Island Grill on Kuikini & Coffee Shack which is south of Kona and a good stop on way to Honaunau/Place of Refuge or the volcano. Other good restaurants: Jackie Rey's, Sam Choy's, Ray's by the Bay (at the Sheraton) & Kona Brew Pub, especially for lunch. Saturday mornings, 8-12 is a great Farmers' Market up at the Keauhou Shopping Center. Third Sunday of each month, Alii Drive is blocked off for the "Stroll" with lots of art & craft booths, food and entertainment. We love Kailua-Kona, it's a "happening" place. We spent four nights at a Kohala Resort condo which was lovely but it seemed sterile compared to the Kona Makai. It's so fun to bring your drinks out for sunset, meet friends and make some new ones. My husband always says "my social life begins now" when we arrive!

WE'RE GOING BACK!

We're Going Back!
  • 5 of 5
This was our 6th visit to the Big Island and our second time at Kona Makai....our first time with Judith in 3-205. Our stay was for five weeks and the condo provided everything we required for a long-term stay.

The condo has been renovated with laminate floors and tiles....much cleaner than carpet and easier to keep clean. The condo has a full-sized fridge (with ice maker), full-sized stove, rice cooker, blender, toaster, microwave, coffee pot, washer, dryer, etc.

The condo is bright, cheerful and decorated in a Hawaiian theme. There is a high counter with two swivel bar stools....a great place to set up your laptop. The main lanai is on the shady side and has a table, comfortable padded chairs and a lounger. The lanai off the bedroom has two chairs and a little side table....a great place to enjoy your morning coffee and sit in the sun. The sofa bed is VERY comfortable (I was sick with a cold, so slept on the sofa bed so I wouldn't disturb my husband).

Outside the condo door, there is a coconut with 3-205 painted on it. This is very helpful for finding the condo. Many condos just have a little brass knocker on the door with the number engraved on it....very difficult to see. (We would recommend that anyone arriving at night at Kona Makai, should have a flashlight for finding their unit as the pathways are dimly lit, areas of the parking lot are uneven and you can't see the numbers on the buildings.)

Judith is a 'gem' to deal with...she does everything she can to ensure you have everything you need and to make your stay a wonderful experience. For example, before arriving, I asked Judith if there was a crockpot (great for those days when you are gone for the day....when you arrive back at the condo, dinner is ready). The condo didn't have a crockpot, but when we arrived, there was a large one on the counter. We were very fortunate to get to meet Judith. She is a sweet, caring person.

Kona Makai is a wonderful complex....very clean, well-maintained, beautiful grounds, pool and hot tub, patio area down by the ocean (great for watching the dolphines, whales and sunsets), three large propane BBQs that are free to use, exercise rooms, secure parking, reading books, pamphlets, walking distance to town, etc. You can also catch the trolley next door at the Royal Sea Cliff (you can pick up a trolley schedule at the desk at the Royal Sea Cliff and catch the bus out front on Alii Drive).

We enjoyed our stay very much and have already booked for next year.

GREAT UNIT

  • 5 of 5
This a beautifully-restored and maintained unit...even has an icemaker which seems to be a rarity in Hawaii. If you've never been to Kona Makai, it is a wonderful place to stay and this is our second time there. Most people you run into have been coming there from 10-20 years. Judith is great to work with and there were no problems at all. The view is a little obscured by a palm tree, but she shows this in her photo, and who spends a lot of time in their room in Hawaii anyway? My wife thought the bed was a little hard, but I thought it was fine. I would recommend staying here. Kona Makai is not a kid-friendly property, so if you have little ones, you should stay somewhere else.

ATTENDED IRONMAN HAWAII 2013 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • 5 of 5
This was a delightful place to spend family time. The condo was clean, well-appointed and stocked with everything we needed for our comfort and for food preparation. Shops and grocery stores were within walking or driving distance and just the right distance from the event to give us a quiet, peaceful get-away. Other family members were in two other condos in the complex and this provided proximity as well as privacy for us. The pool and barbecue area provided a gathering spot for family time. The grounds are well cared for. The unit is priced well and we will certainly choose to stay there again if we travel to the Big Island. Thanks, Judith!
