Comfy Studio with Amazing View

The HideAway provides a full kitchen, king-sized bed, jetted bath-tub, dish network and high-speed internet, all with an 'Oh Wow' view in a very nice 440' studio next to two 100 year old mango trees with excellent access to both the Hilo and Kona destination sites.
About Jim Hunt

I've retired after 42 years of teaching public high school in the nearby town of Honoka'a. I now spend my time on restoring a '57 Corvette, planting taro and a garden in 100 yr. old taro patches, maintaining the 3200' house that I built, myself, and enjoying the beauty and inspiration of this amazing place.

Why Jim Hunt chose Waipio

When first purchased, this property had no driveway, a 100 yr old house with kerosene stove, lamps, an outhouse and minimal view. Look at the pictures and you'll get an idea of all that was done here, mostly by a teacher on vacations with minimal income.

What makes this studio unique

I've run the Hideaway for over 13 years now, and have guest books full of great comments on how much it was enjoyed, how it inspired, how convenient it is to access other spots on this beautiful island, etc. Many local visitors getting away from Kona, and recently a 14 month stay by a bridge inspector keep me busy. It's a great place to share!!!

It's an hours drive to scenic Hilo town and another 45 min to Volcano National Park. I'm a half hour away from ranch town, Waimea, and another 45 min drive to Kohala. Both Kohala and Honokaa (10 min) are classic plantation towns with shops and restaurants. It's also a 35 min drive to Hapuna Beach park and all the South Kohala Hotels from Waimea. And, it's a great place to

'come home to.'

If you don't mind a short drive to the nearest town and enjoy nature - this is your place. The owner is easy going and leaves you alone, just enjoy the nature and views. A big room with kitchen and a bathroom (a few steps over the deck) and a deck with great views. You like this place if you enjoy a casual atmosphere and don't mind a bit of dust and stuff laying around.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Tourists without a Car

What a true, rustic, tropical experience! From lush vegetation, flaming trees, mango trees, and beautiful fragrant flowers to the sounds of the stream, rain, birds, frogs and the VIEW!!! This was an experience that we will never forget.

Thanks for having us! We loved waking up to rainbows almost everyday. The view of the valley is breath-taking and this is our favorite place on the island!! We will be back to this side of the island every time we plan our trips. Your place felt like home and we didn't need anything more out of a place to stay while getting married after 12 years!!!
