About the Big Island Of Hawaii
The Big Island of Hawaii is the largest of all the Hawaiian Islands. In fact it is larger than all the other islands put together. It is also the most diverse. It has 11 of the worlds 13 climactic zones. Everything from tropical to sub-arctic zones can be found here. The top of Mauna Kea is 13,796 feet high and with Mauna Loa are the only places in Hawaii that snows. The east side of the island is lush and green, filled with beautiful vegetation and waterfalls. This is also where Hilo is located. The second largest city in Hawaii is also considered the wettest in the U.S. Just to the southwest of Hilo is Volcanoes National Park. It is open 24 hours a day every day of the year. Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983 and is truly a wonder to behold. On the west side is Kailua-Kona and the Kohala coast. This is where the sunny resort side of the island is. The Kohala coast has some of the most beautiful luxury resorts in the world where the quaint village of Kailua-Kona is home to some of the most spectacular sunsets anywhere. This is also where most of the fun things to do are located. Luau’s, Snorkeling, diving, air tours, world class sportfishing, you can find it all in Kailua-Kona.
On your next visit to the resort, be sure to bring your tennis rackets or just stop by 'Splash' for a loaner racket and enjoy a game or two on the newly resurfaced courts. Currently under construction, is a new Tennis Pro Shop. It is located next to the tennis courts within the present pavilion.
