Waldbort (woodside), a quiet but convenient lane 400 metres from station, at the top of the nursery slopes. Residences Waldbort is a luxury chalet with private ski room and heated bootroom. Hohturen is a lovingly fitted first floor apartment with a large south facing sun terrace. Ideal for four people, the study/bedroom has twin futons increasing accommodation to 6. Dining and seating facilities for 6/8, newly fitted, finest quality linen and towels. Living/kitchen/dining area is thoughtfully fitted to please those with culinary skills (but no microwave). Cable TV, DVD, CD's (mainly classics), net access, books, games. 100m from the piste to Wengen, the terrace with views to the Jungfrau is an excellent place for an end of run beer or evening meals in the summer watching the setting sun. A short ski above the cablecar, it is ideally placed for that early morning start. In Summer enjoy the highest lido in the Alps, with pure crystal waters and fantastic views, just behind the chalet.

A personal view of Wengen, finding detail is easy! The Bernese Oberland is a World Heritage Site and simply one of the most beautiful places in the world. It is not the most extensive ski area in Europe, but there is great variety and there are challenging runs around. Equally, it's a great place for families. Parents with ambitious children can be sure they will get a great time skiing with Coggins, the mini section of the legendary Downhill Only Ski Club. Why has Wengen pulled us and our now adult children back for nearly forty years? The charm, the history, the romance of skiing and walking in view of the massive Eiger Nordwand, the beauty of sunrise and sunset on the Jungfrau. The awe of the Lauberhorn downhill run. Old world courtesy. Alp horns, cow bells, fresh milk and cheese. Traditional 'fest' days, flags. Walks in Alpine meadows, picnics by rushing streams, barbecues in forest glades - you really have to breathe it in to understand, but it's why we've made it our second home

Additional information about rental rates

  • These charges are based on four people sharing. The futons in the study can be made up as two single beds and the additional cost per week is 300 Swiss Francs per person.
    The charges include good quality sheets, towels and soaps. Visitor tax is included in the rental and this gives discounts on various amenities and in some ski shops.
    A non-refundable deposit of £500 is payable on booking and will be returned after confirmation that the apartment is undamaged and there are no breakages, spills etc. The balance of the charge is required in cleared funds in Swiss francs four weeks before the booking date.
    Longer/shorter periods may be available on request. Wednesday changeover day means better deals on flights/ferries are available it also means quieter skiing on changeover Saturday!

We can provide useful information about getting deals on trains, family cards etc and have a wealth of knowledge about things to do, places to go and places to eat. Our son is now an internationally qualified ski instructor and has taught with Private in Wengen - so we know the people to put you in touch with!
    We have spent many happy summers here, so can tell you about mountain hotels and climbing huts,longer distance walks, barbecue places and exciting things for children to do (and adults!)

Small but neat and efficient en-suite shower, loo, basin, bidet and heated towel rail. Second bedroom has a 'Swiss twin' bed with double base and twin mattresses and either 2x single or double bedding - as required. Double wardrobe with interior light. Study bedroom has two futons which can be used as chairs or beds, computer table, views to west and French windows opening on to the south facing terrace. Double wardrobe.

Notes: Hallway entrance with hanging space, shoe rack and slippers (no outdoor shoes inside, please!) Sitting area will seat 5 adults comfortably and there are a couple of padded leather poufs. Nest of three coffee tables. Wood floors with Arabian rugs. Underfloor heating to living area, insulation brilliant. Wood burning stove, not centrally situated but warm and attractive when needed. Logs available. Dining table seats 6, more if chairs from bedrooms used. Modern cutlery and white porcelain for up to eight place settings. Glasses for all tastes from beer to champagne! Dining table with extra leaf. Varied books, some mountaineering and guides. 'House' book with details of ski runs, mountain restaurants and general information from old Wengen hands. Kitchen finished to very high spec (Zug), works very efficiently and good quantity/quality utensils. Plastic plates and glasses for mountain picnics. (Well travelled) small rucksack. Shopping basket/sturdy bags. Umbrellas available.

Family Groups: Wengen is a very popular family resort and has excellent amenities for non-skiers and children. Residences Waldbort has two other apartments available, each for two people, which can be very convenient if, say, parents/grandparents wanted to come too. The Nursery slopes are right in the village (just beside our apartment) and many families spend 'three generation' holidays in Wengen. With grans and granddads playing on the nursery slopes with their grandchildren whilst the 'children' enjoy unencumbered ski days! There's even the possibility to build a snowman on your own terrace. In Summer the open air pool is so close it is like having your own, without all the fuss. There is a full time lifeguard, so children can play safely within calliing reach of home when lunch or teatime comes; whilst for parents there's a very convenient poolside cafe/bar. Being a traffic free resort, Wengen is a perfect place for young children to explore on their own.
