Thank you for allowing The Texas Eye Surgery Team to stay at your beautiful condo in Belize for such an incredible price. It is a wonderful respite from the days of surgery at the hospital. The team enjoys the evenings on the beach and I love cooking in your lovely kitchen. Thanks to the big screen TV, we even had a Superbowl party!
We’d like to share a case the team just had in Dangriga to show you how your hospitality benefits the local Belizeans. Mr. F. lives by himself but with neighbors and friends is able to get by—sort of. He lost his left eye to an accident and had only limited light perception. His “good” right eye had a mature cataract and he sees light perception only. It had been this way for over a year.
When he came to us he walked with assistance in an interesting manner. It’s hard to walk alone with such limited vision but he closely follows behind one of his neighbors with his hand on their shoulder. Thus he walks in tandem step with them leading him one step ahead. This interesting two-person train looked peculiar but worked for him.
We did his mature cataract and fortunately found no other eye problems. The next day he walked in unaided with a grin a mile wide. His life has certainly changed but so have his friends who devoted so much time to his care. He left us walking out of the clinic by himself and I think has regained his lost independence.
