Please read more descriptions about our area to see how well you would like visiting the big island of Hawaii. This east coast is similar to Hana on Maui, much more tropical than the touristic areas, but still within 1/2 an area of a larger city with all the amenities and within 15 minutes of markets and a charming Pahoa town, hot pond heated geothermally next to the ocean in a protected scenic rock wall with showers, toilets, picnic benches. We are 7 miles from town and the road is straight without ANY stoplights to town. Beware some remote places are accessible by muddy rocky roads, no cell or internet services, even off the grid without electricity. The coqui frogs are not outside your window here as there is a very large deck raised 4ft up and surrounding the guest house, called Ohana(means family in Hawaiian). A Hui Ho...welcome!
We're a couple living in Hawaii for over 6 years. We scuba dive and snorkle. Jack sprechen Deusche, born in Munich. Nida Habla Espanol, speaks Spanish, English, Lithuanian, un peau de Francais. We also lived on Maui and Kauai and still commute to Maui every month, so if you are planning a trip there, we can tell you alot about it, where to eat at wonderful restaurants, find waterfalls, hike the volcano, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing info on Maui. We came from Whidbey Island, Washington, Victoria, Canada, and have worked before in California's silicon valley areas as well as Hood River, Oregon and Seattle areas. Nida was a Biology major at UC Irvine and Berkeley and also enjoys Yoga,Zumba, cooking and Jack's BBQs!!! The WEDS night MARKET and SUNDAY market is awesome for organic VEGGIES, great MUSIC, bar on Weds pm. Jazz 6-9 in Pahoa Saturday nights by sushi bar. $4 martinis with mango or passion fruits.

Jack and Nida were great hosts. They were available by phone for all our questions and requests. VRBO mobile site was all but useless. Rental was clean and perfect size for my wife and I. The pool and hot tub was a great bonus. View was amazing but trees and greenery could have been trimmed to increase the view of the ocean. All in all it was a great private place to stay. The wife and I would definitely stay here again.
What a great get away location. If you want some place away from the touristy areas and desire to feel like you live in Hawaii - Stay here. Very gracious hosts, private and quiet location. Clean, safe, and affordable. Jack went out of his way to make us truly feel like house guests. A quick note to plan ahead as far as groceries, etc. If you stay here, highly recommend a trip into the funky town of Pahoa.
Jack was a great host. Rental was clean and as described in the ad. The pool was fabulous! The outdoor cooking are worked well for us. There is a new outdoor kitchen under construction soon. We look forward to returning to this rental.
Jack and Nida were perfect hosts. Room had a great view and everything was as stated in the information. Very quiet area, but close to Hilo and Pahoa.
We felt comfortable & safe in this little ohana. Slept with the door open every night, listening to the ocean, frogs & rain. Might bother some, but not us! Although it rained a couple of days (and several nights), a sunny spot was never far away. We didn't spend much of the day here, preferring to check the area out & there's plenty to see. Bathroom was good size, plenty of closet space for light packers like us, but bed is the really the only indoor spot to relax. However, you'll probably be outdoors as much as possible, enjoying the warm weather (even when it rains). Cooking may present a challenge but if you're used to camping like we are, it's fine. That being said, I think we only cooked a couple of meals in 5 days. Used the hot tub a bit; didn't use the pool. Host was ready to provide anything needed and respected our privacy. Would rent again!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Absolute Oceanfront. The location was very handy, close enough to Hilo for restaurants or fresh fish for the BBQ, the Kopona Tide Pools for fabulous snorkeling (thanks Jack, for the equipment loan!) and the lovely drive through the old Mango grove, and of course the Volcano Park (day and night). Leisurely breakfasts on the deck (strawberry papaya and toast with Lilokoi butter), farmers market takeaway picnics, and a relaxing hot tub before bed - wake up to the sounds of the surf and repeat!! Photos are accurate- kitchen can be a bit of a juggle for a full meal, but plans are in the works to make the outdoor kitchen area more functional. The owners were very helpful and available, answered calls promptly etc.
Absolute Oceanfront for Whale watching from your own studio and deck, also spinner dolphins come and go quite often within feet of your oceanfront lava rocks. Pull in, parking marked& you park and use pool at your own risk.Volcano National Park is 30 minutes close for your day hikes, night caldera viewing lava and Kapoho hot ponds and GEOTHERMAL natural swimming pool. Pahoa quaint town with many awesome restaurants, Thai, Vietnamese, Sushi, Mexican, New York Pizza are just a few, music venues at local markets. Hilo University, Historic town and Airport are 20 miles away also with MANY more attractions, bars, Tapa bar,Sushi, Japanese, Koi Ponds restaurant by marina and boat launches, surf spots, piers etc. BBQ, swimming pool, enjoy sunset time on deck.
