ABSOLUTE OCEANFRONT HAVEN STUDIO WITH POOL

Keaau Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

Studio with bbq grill,microwave,outdoor cooking&dining

Absolute Oceanfront Haven has an Oceanfront Studio with Deck as well as another bathroom accessible from pool and deck. Swimming pool is oceanfront and property is next to statepark for walking along tide pools and hot ponds that you can wade in on calm ocean days. Has instant hot/cold filtered water for tea/ Coffee maker, fridge, microwave, bbq. toaster and Panini grill for pancakes/eggs/bacon too. (outdoor kitchen will be built later in the year.) 3 outdoor tables and MANY chairs, for preparing 'pupus' and your meals plus sunlounges for in the pool and poolside. A new loveseat swing awaits your whale watching! Adults only,as the pool is deep. Adult atmosphere here is suitable for anyone over 18 but bars, shops and restaurants are a 15 minute drive, so perhaps over age 25 and couples are happiest not 5 minutes walking or driving to bars

The queen bed is a real queen bed.

Please read more descriptions about our area to see how well you would like visiting the big island of Hawaii. This east coast is similar to Hana on Maui, much more tropical than the touristic areas, but still within 1/2 an area of a larger city with all the amenities and within 15 minutes of markets and a charming Pahoa town, hot pond heated geothermally next to the ocean in a protected scenic rock wall with showers, toilets, picnic benches. We are 7 miles from town and the road is straight without ANY stoplights to town. Beware some remote places are accessible by muddy rocky roads, no cell or internet services, even off the grid without electricity. The coqui frogs are not outside your window here as there is a very large deck raised 4ft up and surrounding the guest house, called Ohana(means family in Hawaiian). A Hui Ho...welcome!

Worked for us!

We felt comfortable & safe in this little ohana. Slept with the door open every night, listening to the ocean, frogs & rain. Might bother some, but not us! Although it rained a couple of days (and several nights), a sunny spot was never far away. We didn't spend much of the day here, preferring to check the area out & there's plenty to see. Bathroom was good size, plenty of closet space for light packers like us, but bed is the really the only indoor spot to relax. However, you'll probably be outdoors as much as possible, enjoying the warm weather (even when it rains). Cooking may present a challenge but if you're used to camping like we are, it's fine. That being said, I think we only cooked a couple of meals in 5 days. Used the hot tub a bit; didn't use the pool. Host was ready to provide anything needed and respected our privacy. Would rent again!

Wake up to sounds of the surf

We very much enjoyed our stay at Absolute Oceanfront. The location was very handy, close enough to Hilo for restaurants or fresh fish for the BBQ, the Kopona Tide Pools for fabulous snorkeling (thanks Jack, for the equipment loan!) and the lovely drive through the old Mango grove, and of course the Volcano Park (day and night). Leisurely breakfasts on the deck (strawberry papaya and toast with Lilokoi butter), farmers market takeaway picnics, and a relaxing hot tub before bed - wake up to the sounds of the surf and repeat!! Photos are accurate- kitchen can be a bit of a juggle for a full meal, but plans are in the works to make the outdoor kitchen area more functional. The owners were very helpful and available, answered calls promptly etc.

Even the rain was nice

We loved the place and Jack and Nida. While our spot was small, it afforded us all we needed, which was to be in Hawaii, explore when we wanted, read a lot, watch some TV (including Netflix), swim in the pool, cook on the grills and relax. While not for everyone, it was perfect for us. We really felt "left alone" when proper, but could always call on Jack and Nida when we needed something. They were doing some work while we were there (there were workmen around) but it was mostly unobtrusive. We will go again. As we cooked a lot, we'd probably create a better way to store food and supplies in the indoor kitchen (and we know that Jack has ultimate plans to make the outdoor kitchen more suitable). But we certainly made it all work for us. We felt at home here. If it helps, we are 68 and 67.

Great and unique novelty experience

My husband and I (27/28) stayed here for half the week of a Big Island vacation. We loved the out of the way feel and really enjoyed being outside of the traditional hotel or touristy area. Actually, when we moved on to our hotel in Kona, we wished we were back here!

The studio itself was clean and well kept, and we appreciated having the extra bathroom/shower off of the pool. At first I was horrified that it did not have a/c (I'm pregnant, so I was worried about getting overheated), but we never would have needed it and actually turned the fan off most nights. We absolutely LOVED the frog chorus at night, but I could see how some people might not. They provided earplugs in case, but we never used them. For us, it was soothing background noise and added to the novelty of the experience. We missed the frogs a lot in our Kona hotel! The pool/deck/studio bathroom could use some updating. I believe they are planning on doing this in between guests and it wasn't a deal breaker, just looked a little worn and dated. The free laundry (with soap provided) was an awesome bonus that we used after a rather nasty hike in Volcanoes park.

There was construction on the main road to Hilo when we were here, which gave us a 30-45 minute commute, depending on when we were going. If you don't mind cooking (Grill/tools/fridge provided) it would be worth it so that you don't have to drive in to the city every time you want to eat. My husband and I are busy vacationers and pretty much just use our hotels to sleep, so we weren't around enough to cook. We used the grill once and it was in good condition.

Jack and Nida were very nice and helpful, and were available whenever we needed anything. It is obvious that they really want their customers to have a great stay and they do everything they can to make sure you will. I loved how welcome they both made us feel. They also gave great recommendations on the area and were very respectful of our privacy. We mostly had the area to ourselves. Jack even offered to show us how to cut/eat a coconut, but we were so busy we didn't have time. Next time for sure!

We didn't have any troubles other people mentioned with falling palms or missing grill tools or anything and could always get a hold of Jack or Nida. We would not recommend this stay for kids since there is really no room for them to run around or play and no parks close by to get their energy out. But for couples, it was great. Would recommend for couples of all ages!

Perfect launching point for our East Hawaii adventures!

We LOVED the experience here. The owners were so helpful and generous. Each morning we sat out by the pool and drank our coffee all to ourselves and the crashing waves. You can actually walk right off the side of the pool onto the lava and drink your coffee and feel the spray of the waves on your face. The cottage is nicely renovated, comfortably cool at night and more spacious than a hotel room. We had done all the tourists things on the Kona coast and wanted a different experience. This was the perfect launching point to explore the volcano area and east side of Hawaii. It is convenient to Hilo, yet hidden away in the jungle and away from the traffic and tourists. Nope... it's not Waikiki... so if you want hustle and bustle, you're in the wrong place. If you want a place to yourselves where you can enjoy the crashing surf, a swim without a bunch of other people, access to the volcano, awesome food at Pele's Kitchen in Pahoa or Kaleos... access to hot tide pools and some of the best scenery on the island... you've found your little gold mine. The owners are actively improving the property and the value for the price is great. Be prepared for jungle sounds at night (frogs and birds). We loved it. It is also close to the best volcano helicopter tours, and abundance of hiking, access to grass fed beef you can BBQ by the pool, and a place to unwind, this is the place. Check out the tour books they provide for what to do on this part of the island. The Kona Coast via the saddle is only and hour and a half if you're looking for white sand beaches. There is a hidden black sand beach not far away. The Lava Tree park isn't far. Akaka Falls is a MUST see. The bed was comfy, the water was soft. Sorry to see a different review on this place. Sounds like they didn't choose the right place for their desires. We will come back and already hear that they've done an outdoor kitchen for more convenient BBQ'ing. No hidden fees.... no BS.... just a great place to unwind and explore.
