Menorca:
Menorca was declared Reservation of the Biosphere by the U.N.E.S.C.O. in 1993, a distinction that recognizes the harmony shared by the Menorcan inhabitants and the natural surroundings through out years. Everything flows naturally in Menorca; at an easy rhythm which has spread over the island's inhabitants, continuously exposed to so much beauty. A surprising landscape which grinds into the visitor's eyesight by means of unexpected visual appearances. Without time to assimilate the beauty of the last beach, there appears another one instantly reminding us that the island holds an uncountable number of beaches. There are beaches for all tastes, from long soft sandy ones to hidden coves where one can bathe in crystal waters. The southern coast is lined with white sands surrounded by pine tree woods and waters, in the majority of areas, with a breathtaking turquoise tone. The north is wilder and sharper due to its erosion provoked by the tramontana wind over the rocks,
Fiesta Menorca:
The local festivities are celebrated during the summer through out the different towns. These local events are the best proof of the authentic Menorcan customs. The starting point of these festivities, and considered the most popular, are held in Ciutadella between the 23rd and 24th of June The festivities are dedicated to the Menorcan horse breed, which, in perfect teamwork with its rider or 'cavaller', defy the laws of gravity with 'Bots' (the horse stands on its back hinds and lift their front hoofs for number of seconds) while practicing spectacular equestrian games. The Menorcans are so devoted to their horses that even during the 'fury' of the fiesta, these animals are treated with care and great respect. The horse becomes the perfect ally to witness a burst of joy during the celebrations. The spectacular local festivities, where the horse becomes the prtotagonist, are held in honour of each town's patron saint:
Cultura and customs:
One of the island's treasures are definitely its beaches and coves. The coast line is formed by an almost endless series of these as, except a few occasions, it doesn't display any long beaches. This fact awards it with a great diversity of landscapes, sceneries and a its own personality to each beach. There are beaches for all tastes, from beaches with tourist services to hidden virgin coves; although all of them have one thing in common: their crystal waters. The natural and geographical characteristics of the island establish a great difference between the northern beaches to those along the south coast. The southern coast is formed by white sand lines surrounded by abundant pine tree woods their calm waters are, in the major part, of a turquoise tone which will leave us astonished. The north is sharper due to the erosion caused by the tramontana wind against the coast. The sand id thicker and darker in colour, the vegetation is also shorter than the one at the south.
Ski:
There Is no Ski slopes in Menorca but We can continue searching for our own paradise near the sea at the island's exquisite restaurants and taste the freshest products withdrawn from the Mediterranean. There is no other moment better than this to enjoy the calm roll of the sea on a terrace while trying to discover the ingredients of the Caldereta de Langosta (lobster stew): the islands best held secret. The Menorcan cooking is a rich traditional expression which has passed on from parents to children; a wise combination of ingredients offered by the island's fertile soil; recipes that have adapted to modern proposals without losing a speck of its taste. The Menorcan gastronomy owns a very particular history. The recipe of each dish we taste holds a compendium of history and civilizations, improved by the pass of the years; as happens with the mayonnaise sauce, which, according to the legend, was created during the French dominion.
Golf:
Golf Son Parc is a championship quality course, ideal for beginners and experienced golfers alike. The course is both challenging and picturesque. It is located just a few hundred metres from the award winning Son Parc beach on the north coast of Menorca . Around the course are wooded hills and a protected wet zone with a rich variety of bird life. In the distance are views of Monte Toro, Menorca 's highest point. We are taking great care that we develop the course sympathetically with the environment by leaving natural features such as rocks and planting with native flora. We are also happy to say that all our irrigation requirements are met from rainwater and from treated water - we do not take a single drop of fresh water (either from the mains or from wells) for the course. And we still have that very special feature of Golf Son Parc Menorca - a flock of peacocks who live just behind the third green. They are always happy to share their home with golf and we hope they add an extra touch of colour to your round. The original 9 hole course was extended to 14 in 2003 and work on the last four holes to complete the 18 began in 2005. Major construction work was completed in Spring 2006 and, following a final period of growing and bringing the turf up to the required standard, the full 18 hole course was officially opened on 12th August 2006. All the extensions have been designed by Dave Thomas Golf Ltd. Dave is the ex Ryder Cup player and designer of many top world courses
