Hi there! Jeff and Mary Jo here, we lived in Colorado from 1999 - 2012. Due to job change, we have moved to Minnesota. We bought the mountain place as second home in 2007 - new, so we are first/only owners. We added the walk in level bed/bath/living in 2009. Married, no kids, one spoiled dog named Ginger (Boston Terrier). We have had so many great times up at the mountain home - we hope you do to. If you have any questions/concerns, please call me directly . We do not use an agency - it's just us.
Jeff Skogen purchased this house in 2007
We searched for a mountain get away for many years. We landed on this property and the Fairplay area because it was within 2 hours from Denver, a true get away (you are in the mountains, not in a city in the mountains), yet easy access to small town charm of Fairplay and a short drive to Breckenridge. It's simply a beautiful area with Silver Heels Mountain Range, South Platte River, open ranges to thick forests.
Bright, light open concept with beautiful log accents. Comfortable. Awesome views of mountains and forest from being on the ridge line.
Our family of 6 (3 adults, 2 human and 1 furry kid) had an amazing vacation staying in this unit. The house itself is everything you hope for when booking something over the internet: Exactly as the pictures detail, clean and organized, stocked with everything you might need for 7 days, and run by an owner that cares you have an excellent time.
Both before and during our stay Jeff was an amazing host -- he answered all of our questions, worked with us to accommodate a few requests, and was very responsive when we had a small weather issue during our stay (needing him to contact a local snow plower to plow his road after a big snowfall). The location was perfect for our trip: Various snow-related activities in/around Breckenridge, Frisco, and Copper Mountain with a few side excursions into other outlying areas (Leadville and Colorado Springs). Our typical commute was about 30-40 minutes, with a beautiful drive up and over Hoosier Pass each day, and it was well worth the cost trade-off to staying in Breck (about 2x what we paid for this rental).
All in all, if I could rate this rental/stay any higher I would. Our family had just a wonderful, stress-free vacation, and enjoyed a week's worth of Colorado outdoor activities at a great price. To anyone reading this and considering his place -- keep it high on your list, you won't be disappointed!
I loved my stay here. Perfect location to town. Fantastic views and quiet. I would Highly recommend this place. The owner was very receptive and was great at communication
We arrived for our family get away and were very pleased with this beautiful mountain home on the inside and outside! The home is just as shown in the photos, very well stocked, CLEAN and the beds were comfy. Great location and gorgeous views of the mountains. The kids really enjoyed exploring outside around the house too. My husband and I enjoyed having a glass of wine each evening out on the deck listening to the sounds of the forest and watching for wildlife. Close distance to Breckenridge, which we enjoyed going to the fun park on Peak 8. Jeff, the owner, was very easy to get ahold of, helpful and friendly. When we travel back to Colorado we would definitely love to stay here again!
What a refreshing time our family experienced! The photos and description were very accurate - the house was beautiful, extremely clean and well-kept, and the location was exactly what we were looking for . . . secluded in the woods but close enough to Fairplay to enjoy its quaintness and charm. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked all our meals there. The master suite was gorgeous and spacious. The owner was very helpful. We would definitely stay again.
We stayed almost a week at this home with our family of 5 (3 children, ages 4-7) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was exactly as pictured and had everything we needed. The scenery in the area is stunning. Our kids loved playing outside and looking for local wildlife. We spent several days exploring Fairplay and the historical town of South Park (very family friendly). We went trout fishing and gold panning which was fun. All in all, our entire family had a great trip... The kids didn't want to leave! Neither did we!! We would stay here again!!
My wife and I were looking for a clean, comfortable, and private location that offered views that we could spend the entire morning looking at. We tend to be skeptics and kind of difficult to impress, so when I say that we were very impressed, it is a big deal for us. And we were Very Impressed. The location is only a few minutes from Fairplay (restaurants, groceries, mountain tails, etc) so it was convenient; however, it is tucked up on the top of a bluff so it also offered great privacy along with fantastic views of the Mosquito Mountains. The large deck offered both sun and shade (I would sit in the shade and my wife would sit in the sun) so we both could comfortably enjoy our morning coffee while reading and enjoying the mountain views. As far as cleanness…I travel a lot so I intentionally notice…and this cabin was Very well cleaned. Finally, the owner was great to work with and very professional. Overall, the best endorsement I could make is that when we go back to Fairplay area, we will make every attempt possible to stay here again.
Mountain get away. Million dollar views of the Rocky Mountians, specifically Silver Heels Mountain range. Out door adventures, sportsman paradise, family friendly. Activities include hiking, snow shoeing, fishing, horseback riding, ATVing, snowmobiling, white water rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, relaxing. Fairplay town of 700 people in South Park County - check out the late 1800's museum, small town shopping, ice cream shop, restaurants, panning for gold, bowling alley, etc. Fairplay is 25 minutes from Breckenridge for more shopping, restaurants, skiing/snow boarding, tubing, spas. Avoid the I70 traffic and hassle by going Hwy 285 from Denver to Fairplay in less than 2 hours -and it is a very pretty drive. Enjoy!
