THE TREE HOUSE NEAR DOWNTOWN ASHEVILLE. PET FRIENDLY, WI-FI.

Asheville Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

A perfect location for exploring downtown Asheville! This beautiful two bedroom apartment is located in the upstairs of a huge home built in 1920. The upstairs location and the surrounding trees are the reason our guests have named it the Tree House. A charming, roomy studio is the centerpiece of this attractive space.

If you like walking, you can get to the civic center for a show in about 10 minutes, or walk downtown in about 12 to 15 minutes. There are three state-of-the-art grocery stores within about a five minute walk. Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter and Greenlife Grocery are all just up the block. The Montford neighborhood just across Broadway has some gorgeous homes and a nice park, and the Visitor's Center is within easy walking distance. You could even stroll over to UNC Asheville if you feel so inclined, it's right down the street.

The studio has a large window at the end so you have lots of light. One guest stayed about a month and used it as a yoga and massage room. There is a futon sofa in the studio that can be opened out to a full size futon bed. An open floor plan leads to the kitchen, so you can enjoy your family and friends while you cook. We recently updated the kitchen floor from vinyl tile to laminate and it makes a huge difference.

The front bedroom faces Chestnut Street and you can see some of downtown Asheville from the window. It's a good sized room with hardwood floors, and an old fireplace (it's out of service but still adds character). There is a nice dresser and a closet so you will have plenty of storage for your clothes. It is very cheery and bright. There's a super comfortable queen size bed that has been described by one guest as "the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in".

The middle bedroom is a bit smaller. and also features the same kind of bed. These beds are fairly new, purchased in September 2012. We have received a lot of great feedback about them and we bought identical ones for all our properties. There is a dresser and a closet in this bedroom as well, and the window overlooks the side yard, the downstairs porch and Fulton Street down below.

The bathroom is spacious and well lit by a large window and two light fixtures. It has a tub with tiled in shower and a shower curtain.

Please note that this is an old house, and it's located on a fairly busy street. There is no off-street parking, so during busy times you may have a bit of a walk. There are a lot of steps to navigate. The downstairs residents keep a well appointed and very clean chicken pen in the side yard. The home has been restored in the old style, and improvements are ongoing. Most of our guest find it charming, but it is not for everyone so please consider these facors before you rent. We want our guests to be happy and have a great experience, so if you have questions or concerns please feel free to email or call.

IMPORTANT: This is an upstairs apartment, and the caretakers live downstairs. They are available to answer questions, address your concerns, and help make your stay more enjoyable. They have three young children, so please no loud noise late at night. Thanks and enjoy your stay in Asheville! Please visit our web site at PeteKey dot com for more information.

Reviewer Comments:
This two bedroom apt on second floor of large home had great feeling of being home. Loved the wooden floors and tree top views. Little problem with plumbing but staff very helpful and responsive. Quiet area but cars move fast down the street in front of house and there are lots of stairs. stairs to get up to property stairs to get onto porch and flight stairs into apt. rooms are large wall A/Cs work great. Overall a great stay.

Reviewer Comments:
We really enjoyed our stay at The Tree House. The location was ideal and a very quick and safe 15 minute walk to downtown. The interior is very simple yet comfortable. The kitchen was amply stocked with cooking utensils and pots and pans. The bathroom was clean and lots of fluffy towels were available. The one disappointment was the quality of the bed linens particularly in the master (front) bedroom. For starters there was not a mattress cover or pad on that bed. I found one in the linen closet and remade the bed with different sheets that weren't microfiber. Unfortunately, the pillows were not the cleanest either. They could benefit from a fresh zippered pillow covers. Other than the sheets/pillows, it really was a wonderful VRBO and we will be back!

Reviewer Comments:
My husband and I stayed at this property for 2 nights recently (4/30-5/1/14). We chose it based on the fact that it was within walking distance of downtown Asheville. We really only rented it for a place to sleep and shower, as we spent all our time out.

When we unlocked and entered the unit for the first time, a cat ran out, which was pretty odd. We entered the first bedroom and I lay down on the bed and immediately smelled urine - very strongly. The bed was completely dry so it had obviously been there for awhile and we didn't know if it was human or from the cat. Either way - pretty disgusting. Luckily there were only two of us and there was another bedroom, but we were so disgusted at this point that we brought in a couple of blankets that we luckily had in the car and slept on top of them. The bedding in the second bedroom also looked shabby and discolored, and the entire place in general smelled pretty musty. We were uncomfortable and cold both nights because we only had 2 thin blankets of our own and 1 pillow. If there had been more people, I'm not sure where they would have slept since the first bedroom was completely unacceptable.

We contacted the caretaker and the owner and they tried to shift the blame onto us and were completely unwilling to stand behind the condition of the unit and our horrible experience. Bottom line - the place smells and is disgusting. There are tons of affordable options for vacation rentals in Asheville. Don't pick this one!

Owner's Response: There are a lot of things about this review that don't add up. We cleaned the unit the day they arrived and there was no cat inside! The beds were clean and had fresh bedding. Our caretaker saw the guests several times during their stay and they never mentioned any problems. When the caretaker cleaned the unit she noticed a strong urine smell. Fortunately the problem was confined to the comforter. We don't know where the smell came from. Did they have an accident? Did they leave the door open and a cat got in? What's clear is that they started an aggressive phone and email correspondence after they left, demanding money. It's a sad fact that people like this sometimes rent our units, they trash them, they complain, and they demand money back. We hope you will consider our many positive reviews and take this one with a grain of salt.

Notes:
This beautiful Asheville vacation rental is in the heart of it all, just minutes from downtown. It is in a historic district in an area where many homes are being restored to their former glory. This particular home is one of the largest and most beautiful in the neighborhood, and really stands out as an example of fine 1920s architecture.
