I have been a business owner in Cody since 1983 and owned and operated a roller skating facility until just a few years ago. I have also been a horse owner since the age of fourteen with the exception of the four years that I attended Western Michigan University. My family moved to Cody from South Lyon, Michigan where I boarded horses and raised german shepherds. In the later years I was also involved with the K-9 Search & Rescue Team. We brought Children, Horses, Dogs and Cats to 'Big Wonderful Wyoming'! All three children graduated from Cody High School with the youngest attending the Wapiti School from grades K thru 6. My Morgan Mare went from Show Horse to Mountain Horse. She took care of me on the trail; as well as packing out Elk for the family. I purchased her at six months of age and lost her a few years ago at the great age of thirty three. She was my horse of a Lifetime! Cody Country is most definitely an Awesome place to raise a family and to visit
Linda Bortels purchased this barn in 1986
Our Vacation Rental is located in the Wapiti Valley and offers outdoor experiences of a Lifetime! All the numerous amenities have been listed; however the Airport and the well maintained roads make it an A+ for quests and their travel experience. This property is located along on the River with excellent fly fishing and has an abundance of Elk and Mule Deer around the property at numerous times of the year. The Buffalo Bill Reservoir and Visitor Center is also near by and has boating and great fishing
This Property has Unique Mountain Views and Great Sounds from the Shoshone River that offer Tremendous Peace and Tranquility for our Guests. Such great amenities with Cody and Yellowstone nearby
Oh my goodness what a wonderful place to stay to catch TROUT! We caught lots and lots of large rainbows, cutthroats and cutbows. Most of them were sixteen to eighteen inches long and one was twenty-one inches. The river was swift and BEAUTIFUL! Perfect for trout fishing. We were here for two weeks and I am already to go back. Enjoyed Cody and the museum and eating at the Irma Hotel Restaurant prime rib buffet. Was so nice to be so close to Cody but far enough away to enjoy the outdoors and see the large herds of elk right next to us. We also saw many antelope and lots and lots of bunny rabbits. The cabin was wonderful! The bed was comfortable and we loved having the horses around us. Linda was very nice and informative about the area. If you want the perfect river to fish on to catch large fish, a very clean wonderful cabin to stay in and Cody close by, then don't miss staying at 'The Bunkhouse'. You will love it!
My wife and I wanted something remote yet with enough amenities to accommodate our two young kids. This place was perfect. Warm, cozy and extremely comfortable inside. Stunning views outside the front door. Cody is only a visually stunning 20 mins away. Our only regret was the weather was poor and we couldn't spend a few more days playing in this wonderful area. The owner, Linda, was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for everything!
We chose this location because it was halfway between Cody and East Gate of Yellowstone, and because I have grandchildren living in Cody. What a beautiful place. We walked down to the river. My grown boys and grandchildren came over for the day to grill out under the covered porch and look for arrowheads. Not too far from town for shopping, eating, etc. And the views.......spectacular! Linda was so helpful, even coming over the first night to help us get the television going (previous guests had gotten the settings off). We even got pictures of her beautiful horses coming to greet us. We would stay there again in a heartbeat....we absolutely loved the decor. We can't think of one negative thing to say about our stay. Very quiet and private.
Our family stayed here in July. We had a wonderful time. Everything was so nice and clean. We so appreciate Linda giving us advice as to where to go and what to see. We would have missed the Bear Tooth Hwy if she had not told us about it. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
I don't have the pleasure of living in Wyoming, but as long as Linda keeps this place open I'll be back. The place is first class from the horse corralls and paddocks to the furnishings in the bunkhouse. Linda provides smaller bumper pull trailers if you bring the big rig and don't want to try to squeeze it into the trailheads. Grass and alfalfa hay available, with BIG paddocks so your Horse doesn't feel cramped. And don't fish with less than a 3X tippet or moby dick will simply snap your line. She has private access to excellent fishing. Return from a great day of exploring the country on horseback, smack down a beer, and saunter down to the river and tie into trophy sized trout. It just " don't get no better". Soak up the view while having your morning coffee on the covered porch, while you contemplate where you will be headed today. Yellowstone, Clarks fork Canyon, The Beartooth, upstream on the Shoshone, downtown Cody... Whatever. Thanks Linda for a great time. Cowboy up, and tell Richard his spurs are too long!
This was my first trip to the area. My brother joined myself and my cousin/wife/dog and horses for a beautiful outdoor vacation. We were mostly interested in fishing, hiking& trail riding. We could have stayed a year and still would not have touched half the fishing holes and trails within 20 miles. Expand that to 75 miles and it would be 1% or less. The property was just right for us. The drive to YNP was short and beautiful. I even got a photo of a bear. We mostly spent our down time on the front porch of the bunkhouse because the climate up there was so nice. Watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee is spiritually uplfting and renewing as well as spectacular. The owner always dropped by to chat , which was a nice gesture and she made sure everything was OK . It was usually a cold Moose Drool at sunset on the porch. Fishing was great out back on the Shoshone and on the Clarks fork. Fish were bigger out back though. Nice facilities if you have horses to board. All the bases were covered here, however, we never turned on the TV . In this part of the world ,you don't need to.
The Stagecoach River Ranch is located directly on the Shoshone River for absolutely awesome fishing and is for our Guests Exclusively! Stagecoach Trail runs along the River and is just 3 miles East of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir which is an excellent place to dock your boat or just fish offshore. The Buffalo Bill Reservoir also has a Visitor Center at head of the Dam for your viewing.
