Immerse yourself in paradise at our tranquil completely restored vintage beach cottage. We're located in Puako, the only beachfront community on the Kohala coast on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Puako was an ancient fishing village and is now known for its green sea turtles, colorful tropical fish and spectacular sunsets. If you're vacationing during the winter months, watch for the humpback whales that return every year to romp and play.
The weather here is sunny year-round. There's easy access to ocean beaches, ancient petroglyphs, spectacular golf courses, shopping, world-class resorts and fine dining.
Private parking and entry to property, surrounded by lush greenery and private yard setting.
2 bedrooms (2 Queen-sized beds) View Photos. The second bedroom is shared with the open living area which makes a comfortable living space.
1 bathroom with shower
and a private garden full body shower and foot wash(for beach sand)
spacious fully equipped kitchen
living room with TV/Cable/Stereo-Dish radio station
2 lovely lanai (front deck and back lanai)

It's just that Puako is such a rare and special place and to have a chance to Live Work and Play in this area for many years now, We count our blessings, Mahalo David & Kim
Other than LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, I would say;The fact that the property had an original !940's Beach cottage which was worth saving and we wanted to continue giving folks a chance to enjoy this incredible area and in the style of an earlier Hawaii that helped to make this a special choice for us Mahalo David & Kim
We loved our 8 days at this Puako cabin. I completely agree with other reviews - it was spacious, comfortable, incredibly well-stocked, and David and Kim were great. Walk half a block either way, carry the folding chairs they provide, and you can watch the sunset on a wonderful beach while watching the honu (giant tortoises) swim in, frolic in the tide pools, and sometimes crawl onto the beach - and when we were there in late January, whales spouting and breaching on the horizon. We really enjoyed several of the restaurants at Kawaihai (spelling?) a few miles up the road, and bought fresh mahi-mahi at the fish market there, grilled it at "home" after clipping a few herbs from the herb garden on the property. For the first time ever I wondered about moving to Hawaii.... Bed is comfortable, Kim and David are available but not "over-present". We can't wait to go back!
We had an amazing week. The house was just as it was described. It was great to have the patio and lanai and the whole house was very comfortable, clean and well-stocked. We have 2 boys (9 and 13) and all four of us slept comfortably. It was wonderful to have all the snorkeling gear, boogie boards, bikes etc. Also, the location was fabulous and we were able to walk just a few houses down and access the beach/tidepool and see wonderful sea turtles everyday. And it was only a very short drive to amazing, wide, white sand beaches. David was so lovely and helpful. Never intrusive but always so friendly and available to help with directions advice and anything we needed. Our son found a coconut and David cut it up for him and showed him how to do it. We highly recommend this bungalow and can't wait to return. Thank you David and Kim for a fantastic week!
My husband and I stayed here at the end of our honeymoon for 5 nights and it was the perfect place to relax, before heading back to our busy lives. David was extremely sweet upon arrival and showed us where everything was. The cottage has EVERYTHING you need...snorkel gear, water shoes, boogie boards, coolers, towels, beach umbrella, there was even aloe and extra sun block that came in handy! We used the water shoes, cooler and beach umbrella daily. This cottage is located close to the BEST beaches. Also, we loved the beach access a few houses down where there were tide pools with a family of sea turtles at sunset. The bed was extremely comfortable, as was the temp with the ceiling fans and breeze through the many windows. I would recommend this cottage for families or couples or groups of friends. It's multi functional. Again, David was very lovely. He let us know he was available if we needed anything, but he left us alone to have our own privacy. Lovely stay on the Big island!
This delightful cottage is totally comfortable, clean and well located. The owner, David, has all sorts of toys for guests to use…..boogie boards, bikes, snorkel gear. The kitchen is well stocked with spices, condiments, etc, so it was easy to pick up the meat, fish, veggies at the store, fix a simple dinner, and eat on one of the two comfortable lanais. The beach access is only four houses down and across the street, where good snorkeling and turtle viewing are available. Very relaxing vacation.
My wife and I stayed in this charming cottage for 7 nights and wished it had been double that. It is beautifully decorated with Hawaiiana art and furnishings. It ranks as one of the best stocked homes we have stayed in. The neighborhood is quiet and there are numerous locations for beach access and snorkeling. There were many times we were the only ones on the beach. The cottage is immaculately maintained. Beach cruiser style bikes were fun to ride down the long quiet street and on over to some of the resorts. There was a good supply of fins, masks, aqua socks, coolers, beach chairs etc. All of which where clean and in good working order. Restaurants were a quick 10 minute drive and Foodland was only about 20 minutes away. We highly recommend this to anyone who wants a true island style getaway. We hope to return next year for two weeks. It was a pleasure meeting David, who was a great host.
A nice little cottage with a large open bedroom, living area, kitchen, one enclosed bedroom. Large covered lanai out back with grill, patio furniture. Washer/dryer/clothes line. Not very rainy on this side of the island. Body boards, beach towels, cooler on site. Snorkeling equipment available but bring swim gloves/shoes as there are only rocky beaches with lots of sea urchins (!). Also, sea turtles are easy to see. David the owner is very friendly with good advice. Would definitely stay there again. Lots of birds, mongooses, geckos, bugs. A little noisy at night. David keeps the kitchen stocked well with necessities and there is a general store just the road a few blocks.
Puako is the only ocean side residential community on the Kohala Coast. It is still a well kept secret of original cottages and large estate homes nestled on the coastline where all of the major 5 star resorts have been built. Small beaches and petroglyph field within walking distance. Sheltered reef for snorkeling, shore diving, swimming, under water photography.
