Conveniently located, GFO is a compact studio that sits amid Mauna Kea & Kohala mountains on Sunny side of Kamuela (Waimea), Hawai'i. 1-2 miles to countless great dining and shopping in downtown Kamuela, 10 miles to Hapuna and other beautiful world renown beaches. It is a quiet neighborhood (not far from HPA campus) with easy access to multiple facets/climates of this Island. Active health oriented community.
Ideal for independent travelers comfortable sleeping in a double bed, with full bath & well equipt kitchenette. Access to gas grill.
Long term guests enjoy some cooking in the Ohana. Pasrty, juice & fruit are provided for morning after arrival. Please inform me when booking if you have specific dietary needs. A health food store & supermarkets are easily accessible. Several good farmer's markets are available through the week: Tues 2-5 pm, (organic fruits & vegetables); Wed 9-2pm, (food stalls, jewelry, vegetables, baked & sweet delights; Friday 10-4 ice cream & fresh baked bread; Sat 7-2, two separate markets, also complete with food stalls, plants, florals, herbalist and fruits & vegetables.
Most travelers prefer renting a car, our Island is large, linear, and depending on the weather, this allows the option to easily change direction. Airport rentals are easiest, may I suggest a GPS especially if arriving towards evening, not so easy to see driveway the first time. Best rental car rates, usually a few weeks prior to arrival. If you need, the Hele On Bus stops on the road near the house, rate $2.00, $1.00 for senior. Please check: (http://www.heleonbus.org/schedules-and-maps) for schedule. The Hilo/South Kohala map shows routes that lead to hotels & beaches. The Waimea Shuttle is our local area.

We really enjoyed our 11night stay in Waimea. The suite was comfortable and had a nice homey vibe. Everything was clean and well maintained. Waimea town was cute and convenient and I definitely recommend the Big Island Brewhaus for dinner.
Just a delightful place to stay with all the needed amenities and even some extras for the more environmentally minded. Our hostess was caring and friendly and we were able to do everything we wanted to!
My wife and I spent a month at the Green Flash Ohana and just now returned home. The listing is accurate regarding the location and amenities. The room was as described, clean and well maintained. The owner was always available for questions and/or concerns. Weather was cool and right in the hub of where we needed to be. 15 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes to town for shopping and restaurants.
Hilo is 55 minutes and Kona is 45 minutes, Hawi is 20 minutes. Roads are in good shape and people are very friendly over the whole of the island. We flew into Hilo and rented a car for our stay. The driving directions were very good. This is a clean, neat and nice place to stay in, and we can recommend this property for your stay. We were not disappointed and you should have a great time here.
We shopped online, and this was the best place we found for the money and the amenities. It has the Aloha spirit.

One block from HPA campus. Coming from ocean on Kawaihae Road just before 'Y' junction. Look for sign: Waimea 2, Hawi 19, go slow, the driveway is next turn on the left. From Waimea town, note same 'Y' junction, 2nd turn on the right.
